Oh interesting about the wvw. Also any info if guild chat cross server?
Would be awesome to see GAF dominating a WVWvW battle.
FEAR THE GAF!

Q: 1. Is there a way to chat with the other servers in WvW? So you can organise a (temporary) Alliance if you want to call in help?
A: We will not allow cross server chat in game.
(source, compiled by Jira from Reddit so you can actually read it without getting headaches.)

Whether that extends to guild chat, I dunno, but I would have to venture a guess and say Yes.

ARE THERE GUILD CAPES?

Finally found the answer for this, by the way. Same source;
Q: is it possible in WvW to wear a cloak with guild emblen?
A: We dont have cloaks, but you can put a guild emblem on your armor and weapons!

I know RITE.

I really wish more of us from GAF got in, especially the most vocal of us or those of us that would spread the good word about GW2 for ANet.

I hope your impassioned plea works, Kev.

I have it written but I haven't sent it yet because I need to run it by Jira first and he's not around right now. But I hope it works too, at least for him. If anything, they'll know who we are after they read it.

Edit- ehh whatever I'll just send it.

Missed this post earlier, I think "NeoGAF" works but we might want something that's more... flavorful. Even if it's "Gaming Age Front", at least then it doesn't sound like a Government abbreviation.

"Don't worry ma'am, we're from N.E.O.G.A.F."

Oh, I agree. If we could come up with something with a little flavor that still let people know where we're from that'd be awesome. People are pretty split, though. There were a number of people who seemed against anything other than "NeoGAF".

Have your pick of GAF acronyms. :P

Have your pick of GAF acronyms. :P

I'm loving "gamma-IFN activation factor"

Let me just list some ones that just sound hilarious:

Gothic Alien Foundation,
Guaranteed Accumulation Funds,
Global Advertising France,
Gas Adjustment Factor
Gay Army Frankfurt

Goblin Attack Force doesn't sound too bad though. XD

They all made me laugh way more than they should for a guild name.

Hope we get some more info and vids on the underwater content. It seems at first they were very enthused about informing people about the underwater area, then the WvWvW kinda took over the spot light. Which is understandable.

You say that like it's a good thing.

I think just "NeoGAF" works, but I'm not crazy about it. It gets the job done, but it's not very creative. Since we'll have the "[GAF]" abbreviation after whatever the name is, having "GAF" right in the name seems redundant.

"Get America Fit" seems rather ironic though, doesn't it?

There was a ton of rage from the community about how much PVE was being shown and that GW2 wasn't going to have any PVP, so on and so forth, so they made a big push on WvW info. There was a video that showed an underwater dungeon, let me try and dig it up.

Terrible, Terrible news...
I like my cloaks....
Already knew about the Emblem on armor thing and you can also put the emblem on your weapons, you need your guild to hire/unlock armorsmithing or weaponsmithing perks for it IIRC.

Guild Wars 2 Is now Dubbed: Dub Wars 2
Not into Dubstep as much as I was a year ago, but I love D&B and Noisia is my hero, so I freaking love this...

And on a side note, anyone who follows AKAMikeB on youtube think WvWvW should be called Dub-Vee-Dub-Vee-Dub?

And ninja-
Great! Amazing! Fantastic!

Am I the only person worried that having multiple guilds, being allowed on multiple servers, having a world wide bank, and other things of this nature will hurt the community? Sounds like we're going to end up with huge guilds with thousands of people you don't even know. And people will just switch to whatever guild is doing the best.

My absolute favorite part about WoW was having that guild camaraderie of trying to out play the other guilds. Now you don't have to try to be the best- you can just join the best at any time. Having guilds take keeps in WvW sounds awesome, but where's the prestige in that if everyone else fighting is also a member of that guild at one time or another?

Are these worries justified at all?

Bee Tee Dubs, who are you sending it to? What email exactly?

It should be : New Enterprise One [GAF].

I think the guild name should be an acronym of NEO and [GAF] be the tag. it just works.

Yeah, I could definitely get behind that way of doing it too. It makes a lot of sense.

My view is that, If you're in a guild that allows just anyone to join, yo-... wait... why would you join a guild like that?

Any serious "PVP-centric guilds will be pretty specific with how they recruit people, even with the limitations in games like WoW, they're notoriously picky about they're members. they won't let just ANYONE in and they DEFINITELY won't let someone who has more than one or two guilds in.they're thought will be, "How can this person dedicate time to my guild when he has to split it between three or more?"

I think this system is for two situations...

Situation one
You have a close group of friends who you enjoy PVE-ing with, as well as a Larger group of people you PVP with. Now you can have a small guild for PVE and join the G
reat!
A
mazing!
F
antastic!
Guild for PVP.

Situation Two
You Are in the G
reat!
A
mazing!
F
antastic!
Guild and like to PVP, but also like helpiing lowbies level up or casual PVP or RP-ing or Dancing naked in bars(Don't Judge), The G
reat!
A
mazing!
F
antastic!
Guild can make one or two "Child" Guilds to cater to the likes of players such as that.

It's not as if you just click on a Guild and then click Join and Bang you're in, they have to let you in.
Of course there will be players who are in 9-20 guild, but none of those guilds will likely be very big or important.

Then again there is always the possibility of guilds becomming "Groups" Ala Steam groups. That would suck...

Here ya go, it's not the video I was thinking of, but it does show a lot of underwater combat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=je0mT7AHKqI&list=PL67FE1786344D1566&index=12&feature=plpp_video

I like my cloaks....

I'm hoping cloaks are somehow still in the game, but tied to specific armor pieces;
We are also introducing the ability to have one piece of armor replace multiple pieces. For example, if your human warrior has an elaborate coat with built-in shoulders and helmet, this is available as one piece and replaces the three pieces on your body. This principle also works with full outfits. Designing armor this way allows us to create outfits that don’t have to adhere to the modular design, allowing for greater diversity. (source)

So in theory, you might find some cool Breastplate or Pauldrons and they have a cloak automatically built into them.

I think those sort of things will help the community.

Instead of being forced to put all of your eggs into one basket, you can have a guild for Role Playing, a guild for PVP and a Social guild all on the same character.

I don't see the end result being that much different from other MMOs; there aren't many "Mega Guilds" outside of communities like Goonsquad (and even they splintered at different points). But instead of the constant poaching that goes on between guilds, you can just join up with another outfit without being forced to abandon the friends you already have.

And on that note, having multiple servers means you no longer bump into another player outside the game but can't actually play with them because they're on Server A and you're on B. It means that the main draw of the MMO genre (Playing with other people) gets a huge shot in the arm because there's less barriers to playing with the people you want to play with.

Relevant pics from 4chan leak.

EDIT: These seem... very, very bad. Not at all what I was hoping for. It should have been vanity items only.

They need to make the megaphone broadcasts $100 like they did in TF2.

Otherwise it's gonna be a nightmare.

THIS IS THE 2ND GAME GEMS MIGHT RUIN (but probably won't) IN 2012.

edit: lol english is hrd

Agreed.

Also what? Mystic Chests and Keys? That's the type of shit I see in Allods.

I hope you can craft the keys on your own or else I'm gonna be trading gold for gems just for them.

Definitely, gold for gems is the huge money sink the game is planning on using.

Also, wtf karma boost? I'd use that all up and down the land. Magic Find boost is okay, you can get gear slotted to do that.

A lot of those items are kinda facepalm though. They're clearly not advantageous against another player (damage boost etc); but they're time-saving items for sure.

The mystic chests and keys are the only things I have issues with. Everything saves people time but doesn't really scream pay to win like Guru will freak out about.

I need to know more about the mystic chests.

Very bad? How so? Oh no 50% exp for an hour!

Ressuection Orbs that make any type of PVE accomplishment pointless? Mystic Chests with items that can give players advantages over others?

Those two by themselves are pretty bad. Megaphone shit just smells of F2Pness. Gonna enjoy that WTS super epic item 24/7.

A) Someone rezzing themself in PVE? I couldn't care less.
B) We have no clue what's in the boxes, I suppose I'll give you that one though. You can't assume it'll give people an advantage though just yet.
C) Megaphone sounds funny. I wouldn't pay for one myself though...

It sounds pretty similar to the TF2 supply crate, which are a crap shoot.

You don't care about PVE, but that items basically ensure that hardcore, elitist guilds will either skip GW2, or that all content will be cleared within hours of release. I used to love going to mmo-champion and seeing what the top guilds were up to.

The mystic chest items have to be good, or else why buy them?

And F2P games are full of spam whenever megaphones are implemented. Selling, buying, gold selling, random chatter...

While it is very early and damning an entire game on an early leak is stupid, all I'm saying is that I do not like where this is going. League of Legends makes oodles upon oodles of money simply with cosmetic items and exp/ip boosts, both of which I'm fine with.

Free (Paid) Rez makes PvE a joke. You don't care? A lot of people seem to care about PvE, including ANet. Megaphones and chests reek of cheap F2P antics that just leave a bad taste in the mouth. Same with all the boosts. Can't help but feel that you're wasting time when people can just pay to boost. This wasn't a problem when we assumed the only cash shop things would be special armors.

On the plus side, buying extra character slots for gold is sweet. It all depends on the gem to gold conversion rate. If it's pretty cheap, people won't complain. However, since we're clearly able to buy more than the previously suggested armors, if gems get costly, things might get out of hand.

The pricing for the megaphone needs to go way up. I've seen them more expensive (relative to what the other items in the store cost) in other games and people still buy them buy the hundred and sit there and have fucking conversations with them.

Anyway, what do we know about mystic chests? What other methods of unlock are there for them? How else does one procure mystic keys? Considering this sounds like something they'd actually get me to buy, I really want to know a lot more about them.

Edit: and in case it wasn't obvious, these are keys for the mystic chests, not the mystic chests themselves, which have never seemingly been discovered and no other methods of getting keys have been found. The chests themselves sound like you can pick them up and carry them with you, given that you find them on dead mobs. Doesn't sound like that big of a deal. Just the res orb, really.

So, how many of you are from Australia or similar timezones? I'm really looking forward to this and would love to join the GAF guild if possible, kind of want to know how many people would be on around the same times as me though.

Also, the mystic chests, as a speculation, would probably contain the same things similar items contain from other games, potions, mats, food, maybe in this case dyes and costume pieces and possibly gold. though I can't say for sure.

The mystic chest items have to be good, or else why buy them?

Well if they are really after the money the probability percentages of getting high quality items will be shitty. I mentioned the TF2 crates earlier because although they are mostly useless there are still idiots who dump tons of money on keys in the hopes of one unique hat. Its a pretty great money scam really.

Other than the mystic chests, loot bag and rez orb things look like I was expecting. I figured boosters would be a big part of the cash shop.

I think the rez orb should be more expensive, unless there is some sort of cooldown on it. I agree with others it'll hurt the PvE game if you can just chain them when you die. I could easily see that becoming an issue when people go to do hard PvE encounters. With how easy it is to rez someone in this game I'm honestly surprised they're in there at all, the more I think about them.

It's not a big deal to me if they are expensive enough, but I suppose I understand what people are getting at.

I thought about it more, and you are right. The biggest problem are those resurrection orbs.

If implemented and useable anywhere in PVE scenarios, I will never touch PVE.

Was hoping the in game stuff would be all cosmetic stuff. Disappointed in the orb and megaphone. Can see it now... end game raiding guilds requiring the orbs :(

But there are difficult PvE encounters, and I could easily see an issue where people expect you to have an orb to res yourself. Why would they bother to try and help you out, putting themselves in danger, when you can just use an orb.

Wait, seriously? I thought I read that they were having raids and such...

Wow. I went from being really excited for GW2 to not at all interested in the span of 30 minutes.

They don't have WoW style raids. The closest thing you'll find are large scale dynamic events like those dragon fights they showed off before.
