The orb is the only item that worries me, but we don't have the details on how it works yet. For all we know, it could be disabled in dungeons.

Okay, so no raids, but do they have "raid level difficult" dungeons?

I don't care about the number of people, I just want a good PVE challenge.

I thought about it more, and you are right. The biggest problem are those resurrection orbs.

If implemented and useable anywhere in PVE scenarios, I will never touch PVE.

Yeah, orbs are the only thing that bug me on that list because its an immediate leg up. Hopefully though its something they will limit the use of, perhaps you can only use an orb once a week or something. Better yet, orbs are not allowed in certain parts of the game.

Sounds like you haven't followed this game much!

The PvE in its entirety is going to be very challenging.

Copying over for the new page:

The gem and gold exchange. There's even a graph. Cool.

You can buy and sell Mystic Chests.

I'm a little concerned about the rez orbs and chests, but not overly so. The question is, can you use an orb while downed or only after actually dieing? If you can only use it when dead, then your armor will still be damaged, right? Meaning you can only use a few before you start getting naked and encounters get a hell of a lot harder.

I used to follow it pretty closely, but I found out that by really diving into an MMO before it launches really ruins it for me. I remember exploring EverQuest and being so engrossed in the world. I'm hoping that by going in near blind that I'll be able to recapture that.

Phew. I feel better. But damn orbs!

Hmm... So far, none of the Pay-2-Win-type crap that people were proclaiming would ruin the game. My rational take on things;

  • EXP / Karma / Crafting / Magic Find Boosters
Convenience items for people who can't play as much as they would like. Unless you get upset that someone is a higher level than you, not much to complain about here. I liken it to Rested Status in WoW; something to give people who aren't playing non-stop a little edge.

  • Costumes, Transmute stones, Dyes, Magic Plant food
Cosmetic stuff, doesn't affect gameplay. No complaints here. The plant food basically speeds up the time you'd have to wait to get dye from a seed.

  • Character Slot / Account Bank Slot
We knew this was gonna be a Cash Shop item. Being able to buy slots for alts with the money I'm earning on my main is awesome. Same with account-wide storage space, it's not something I need immediately but will want eventually.

  • 12-Slot Bag
I hate starting a new character and not having bags. That's always the first thing I send my alts. I probably won't buy these anyways since, you know, my main will be able to buy that stuff with gold (or craft it). But it's tempting to buy one for my first character right off the bat. Storage doesn't affect gameplay at all though, it just means you make less trips to sell off vendor trash.

  • Extra Bag Slot
Not sure what to make of this one. I figured that you'd have your default inventory and then 4 slots for bags. If you have to pay to unlock those, that's a little annoying. If this is just some kind of 5th bag slot, that's kind of cool. Not game breaking at all though.

  • Asuran Bank Portal / Repair Cannister
Saves you the trouble of walking to the nearest Asura gate and porting to a capitol city. Unless you're in the bottom of a dungeon or in some kind of insanely remote part of the world, I don't see many people using this.

  • Perfect Salvage Kit
If you absolutely have to make sure you get the best possible salvage, I can totally see this being worth it. Take the randomness out of the equation to save yourself some frustration? Yeah, I can see myself buying that. It basically just means you won't have to spend time getting the materials you lost.

  • Resurrection Stone
Saves you a corpse run... for about a third of an additional character slot? This seems like idiot bait to me.

  • Dye Box / Loot Bag
Nice way to gamble gems away. But it doesn't seem to unlock anything you wouldn't get playing the game. I mean, I doubt you'll buy a Loot Bag at level 5 and get a Level 80 weapon (and if you did, what good would it do?)

  • Mystic Key
This is the only item that concerns me, but logically, it sounds like they'll work like Lockboxes in World of Warcraft; you're out questing, killing mobs and they occasionally drop a treasure box you can't open. It's not a great system and I really don't see the need for it, but I guess it does add a gold sink and it does add some element of surprise. I could see people putting unopened Mystic Chests on the Marketplace and people treating it a bit like gambling. The annoyance factor will be determined by A.) How often they drop and B.) the variance of the item inside. If there's a chance your Mystic Chest contains vendor trash, then it's definitely bullshit. If you're guaranteed to get something decent though, that's not quite as bad.

  • Megaphone
Annoyance item. In theory you can tell people to come help in WvW, in practice it will be used to shout profanities and slander, call out Ninja looters (if there even is such a thing) and just generally be obnoxious. Which is fine; every time I see someone make an obnoxious server-wide announcement, I'll know that person just wasted their money being stupid.

That in game store looks okay to me, especially since you can trade in game gold for gems. I won't personally be buying the XP boost items and such, and if people want to rush to level 80 that's fine by me.
Storage and inventory slots interest me for sure. I can see myself buying that if I get full.

Heh, I bet the Guru forums are exploding, but it's nice to see GAF is being level-headed.

Hmmm... there is a separate category for "Bag" and "Container". Wonder what that's all about. Likewise with Gizmo and Trophy.

Wait, seriously? I thought I read that they were having raids and such...

Wow. I went from being really excited for GW2 to not at all interested in the span of 30 minutes.

Here, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1JfSbKjHHI&hd=1&t=1m38s

That's what passes for a 'Small' dragon in GW2. Events also scale with the number of players involved, so it won't become any easier just because everyone can participate.

There are also lots of dungeons that have two modes. When you first enter them, you're in "Story Mode", but if you return lat
er you're in "Exploration Mode" which has lots of alternative routes, special encounters, etc. and are supposed to be much harder.

...except you can buy gems with in-game gold, so you can get all of those things without spending a cent.

I know. I'm just saying. About $15 for a character slot, $15 for an outfit, etc.

I don't think I'll ever buy anything with gems except bank slots, but at some point the items get too expensive for real cash to be spent. $5 is an impulse buy, $10+ is not. I would probably spend $2 for a big bag. Now I'll just spend gold on it.

I wonder if Mystic keys are something players can craft as well.

So about $2 for 100 gems, not bad at all.

So, roughly
$16 for an extra character slot
$14 for a Cook/Pirate Outfit
$6 for a Scholar's Outfit
$4 for the Top Hat or Rez stone (what a waste)
<$1 for a Bank Portal, Megaphone (that needs to go up in price)

The costumes seem a bit pricy, but I'm sure as they add new items, they'll come down in price (LotRO's cash shop ran specials and such all the time).

Well, damn. Stuff is gonna be expensive.

Only if you pay real world cash for them. Remember that you can also buy gems with in-game gold. As you're playing one character, you can be funding the slot for your next alt.

I'm actually kind of excited at the prospect of watching the Marketplace for shifting prices on gems. The marketplace is also supposed to be accessible via mobile devices, so that'll be interesting. I'll log off at 3AM and spend a half hour dicking around on my phone looking for deals.

The prices definitely cannot be final.

Yep, it bears repeating that these are leaked shots from a closed Beta and aren't an accurate representation of the final game. Everyone should be taking these with a grain of salt.

Gone for a couple of hours and look at what I missed. Pretty much what I expected, with the exception of loot bags and the keys, that's somewhat surprising. Love the supply and demand graph for the gems. Wonder if keys can be obtained in game or not?

Wonder if keys can be obtained in game or not?

I'm hoping you'll be able to rarely find them as loot or craft them from rare materials. Realistically though, it's likely going to be a cash-shop only item. I'll do the same thing I did with my Lockboxes from WoW; pawn them off to people for gold.

So much for bulk discounts.

I'd be very surprised if it launches like that though, all the more reason to believe these are likely placeholders. Bulk purchasing is pretty much standard practice for micro-transaction systems, they want you to see the logic in spending a ton of money at once because, you know, "you're getting them slightly cheaper! That's being thrifty, and you're sure you'll find something to spend all those points on."

Another one. Shows the increments you'll be able to buy it.

weird, they are using the same numbers as the Microsoft Point system. Since the game is heading to console I guess they will be doing this on the 360 version as well.

I wonder if you can change your account's home server with gems. Since your entire account is bound to one server, it might be something they only do for cash.

How does gem work and what can you buy with it?

Heh, read the last 50 or so posts and you'll know just as much as the rest of us.

Yikes, 3 am here, time for bed. Don't go guru-level crazy on me while I'm asleep, guys. :lol

Resurrection stones leave a bad taste in my mouth, but other than that, I'm fine with this. Mystic boxes are really nothing new, looks like a very similar system to the one TF2 operates on.

I'm not liking the mystic chest thing at all. Everything else is kosher (except of course, Megaphones at all, they will be used for yelling stupid shit).

At the current price here's chat all day:

Global Announcement from Player1: poop

Global Announcement from Player2: trolololol

Global Announcement from Player 3: whisper player2 for free gems

Global Announcement from Player 4: anal [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker]

No doubt. Lots of stupid comments that everyone will see, which will make thousands of players turn off "Announcement" channel.

Cash Shop is very f2p and I understand why people could be upset about it. Also sick of companies forcing you to buy their shitty currency to purchase items, I don't want to buy 400 guild wars bucks if the item I want is only 300.

If you get gems using in-game gold, you can specify exactly how many you want.

Just to be clear, you can get those transmutation stones only through the cashshop? Because I thought that feature was just implemented in the game(play) itself? (As in vendorstuff...)

But if I want to buy gems I can't, it's a complete scumbag move and people need to start calling companies out on it.

You can either pay real money or use gold.

Be interesting to see how that develops. I never played the first Guild Wars, did that have micro-transactions?

Yep, all along the same lines as these, cosmetics and services like more character slots and such.

Tstones can also be purchased via Karma which is a currency you obtain by completing events in-game.
