I have faith in the LEGO Design Gods. Since they've shown that more verticality at a higher price is feasible, why not go with a 1.5x to 2x base? As long as it looks like it fits the theme, I'm willing to follow wherever they want to take me.
Speaking of which, why the fuck did they use two half base plates for the Fire Brigade instead of one regular sized one? Made no sense to me. Using two halves for something like Pet Shop makes sense since it is two buildings, but there was no reason to do it for Fire Brigade other than to add one piece to the piece count, or to annoy me when you join them together.
The first three mods used two base plates as well. Not entirely sure why, though it is a nice feature for Market Street so you can split that set in two the same way you can Pet Shop (and it looks a bit better that way).
And going off nothing more than a hunch, I think we'll see a bank next. Either as a corner set, or single front like Green Grocer. A big, imposing bank with a touch of gothic design could be pretty rad. Or they could even go with a sleek and stylish art deco front to make it all classy.
I agree that these last few years, their designers have been ace. I am curious as to what Jamie Bedard is working on though. Knowing he did the modulars up to Town Hall and he did Tower Bridge (I think those are his sets) makes me want to buy anything the man designs.
Hmm. A bank makes sense. Goes back to what I said before: there are so many things they could do with the modular series. Never thought of a bank. Although, I think a bank would be boring to put together unless it is a split building like Pet Shop.
Loooove Jamie; he's absolutely brilliant with bricks. I'm such a fangirl. One of the things I hope he's working on is the next set for the winter village. I adore that line and so want for it to continue.
However, coming into the modulars late is painful. I cant get all of them without spending some serious money, and once I catch up I will have to wait a year or so for the next one. UGH. Granted, it is nice to not want a $150+ set every week or two, but it makes the wait for a new set in a series much harder.
Just finished my 2nd modular, Grand Emporium, and I can see why this series is so addictive. The feeling of putting two modulars together is nothing short of orgasmic. I really feel like those with mini-modulars are missing out on the real thing.
Agreed...although I'm considering bricklinking the older ones. Somehow the rarity of those sets and the extra effort needed to piece them together seems more fun.
And most of the modular pieces are not that rare either. Especially if you dont mind substituting a few colors here and there. I might do that eventually.
Yeah but occasionally you'll get a gem like this:

At that point, I think a different (but closely) colored brick would suffice. That is ridiculous.

Really excited to get my first Modular today. I think I may even go out and get a bookshelf to put up and have a dedicated space for my new lego assets. The smile I got from reading the weight of the UPS box is pretty great....8 pounds of lego man....8 pounds.
Now to stalk the UPS driver.
How many are you thinking to get. I think I'd be a little nervous having a street full of modulars on a shelf, they can get pretty heavy
Nearly picked up the lighthouse today, or the log cabin. Just fancied something quick and small to build.
That thing looks so great, and it can be a great playhouse toy for kids, as it opens up and you can put little guys and furniture or lights inside. Wife and and I enjoyed building that so much, and I think it's what partially accelerated our thought process of looking for a new (real life) house too.i'll be caving and picking this up after work ^^

Right, after spending lots of money on Minifigures to get a complete series 6, I bought this from asda for £7.50.
Now I'm hooked. I think I've narrowed my next purchase down to the Millennium Falcon or the Tantive IV. Has anyone got either or both and would recommend one over the other?
OK, normally I wouldn't do this, but is anyone interested in buying my Falling Water Architecture model? Built once, displayed for a bit, everything is in perfect condition...I just don't want it anymore. Odd I know, but I was looking at it today and said to myself, "I don't care about you anymore." :| I love the model, but I just don't want it anymore. Rather than using Amazon, I figured I'd ask you all here on LegoGAF.

Is that the townhouse? I saw that OOP at Bricks by the Bay and wanted it.

Going to put one of these together today. The wife has to go to the Mall in Raleigh Sunday so I'm either picking up the Space shuttle or Tanative or Falcon.
anyone looking to build the UCS millennium falcon? I've had car trouble and unfortunately have to consider selling mine before building it.
I tried to get as close to 100% accuracy as possible through bricklink or lego themselves. I still need to buy around 30 pieces, and it lacks the proper printed dish, proper color boat rigging, and most minifigs. I made a few minor color substitutions, but kept it mostly to internal parts, and noted each change in case I was able to swap them out for 100% accuracy at some point.
So I finished the Imperial Shuttle last night, and while its really neat, I have some reservations about it, specifically the thrusts and the covers on the wings. They aren't put on very well, and seem to fall off easily. Its a problem because when I want to hold it, that's kinda where I naturally grasp it, especially if I don't have easy access to the bottom of it.
Did anyone else notice this, or did I just build it wrong?
They are rather fragile for holding, but pressing them on should stop them from falling off in general. But the weight of the model is a bit much to hold them by that.

Where did you find that Hoth set? I've been looking for one that includes the snow speeder but can't find one.
