I have faith in the LEGO Design Gods. Since they've shown that more verticality at a higher price is feasible, why not go with a 1.5x to 2x base? As long as it looks like it fits the theme, I'm willing to follow wherever they want to take me.

I agree that these last few years, their designers have been ace. I am curious as to what Jamie Bedard is working on though. Knowing he did the modulars up to Town Hall and he did Tower Bridge (I think those are his sets) makes me want to buy anything the man designs.

And who did the designs on the 2012 slate of Star Wars ships? Because that designer is VERY good at what he does. Getting great detail using very little pieces while making it fun to see come together.

Speaking of which, why the fuck did they use two half base plates for the Fire Brigade instead of one regular sized one? Made no sense to me. Using two halves for something like Pet Shop makes sense since it is two buildings, but there was no reason to do it for Fire Brigade other than to add one piece to the piece count, or to annoy me when you join them together.

The first three mods used two base plates as well. Not entirely sure why, though it is a nice feature for Market Street so you can split that set in two the same way you can Pet Shop (and it looks a bit better that way).

And going off nothing more than a hunch, I think we'll see a bank next. Either as a corner set, or single front like Green Grocer. A big, imposing bank with a touch of gothic design could be pretty rad. Or they could even go with a sleek and stylish art deco front to make it all classy.

Hmm. A bank makes sense. Goes back to what I said before: there are so many things they could do with the modular series. Never thought of a bank. Although, I think a bank would be boring to put together unless it is a split building like Pet Shop.

However, coming into the modulars late is painful. I cant get all of them without spending some serious money, and once I catch up I will have to wait a year or so for the next one. UGH. Granted, it is nice to not want a $150+ set every week or two, but it makes the wait for a new set in a series much harder.

Once I catch up, it will be better for my wallet. And make gift giving easier for my wife.

Loooove Jamie; he's absolutely brilliant with bricks. I'm such a fangirl. One of the things I hope he's working on is the next set for the winter village. I adore that line and so want for it to continue.

The thought of a bank mod actually crossed my mind when I paid a visit to my smallish hometown recently, and took a drive through it's downtown looking for ideas for my own mod MOC. Lots of inspiration there, and the bank stood out in particular.

One of the Ross near me has this for $35 ($50 MSRP)

It looks fun but theme isn't of interest to me so I passed, but probably would have made an impulse buy if I had time to build it right now. I'm not sure how often they have Lego sets this size. Last time I looked they only had small sets and they were barely discounted.

It just occurred to me tonight what a great idea for another UCS Star Wars set would be. We had the Darth Maul and Yoda busts. Why have we not gotten a Han Solo in carbonite bust yet?

It does not have to be that massive, but it is something that they could release using old skool brick techniques, but still have it look really cool.

Yeah, whatever Jamie designs will be a sure buy for me. I'm a big fan of the Winter Village sets as well - I think they've sold very well for LEGO, so I expect to hear about the next one in August, which is traditionally when those are announced.

Just finished my 2nd modular, Grand Emporium, and I can see why this series is so addictive. The feeling of putting two modulars together is nothing short of orgasmic. I really feel like those with mini-modulars are missing out on the real thing.

Agreed...although I'm considering bricklinking the older ones. Somehow the rarity of those sets and the extra effort needed to piece them together seems more fun.

And most of the modular pieces are not that rare either. Especially if you dont mind substituting a few colors here and there. I might do that eventually.

Seeing as last year's advent calendar was police themed a Winter Police Station is what I envisioned. Has some ideas to build one myself but haven't got round to it.

I don't want a bank, think it'd look too similar to the town hall and fire brigade. I'd maybe like a townhouse, but I guess the pet shop has that covered somewhat

Two buildings I'd like to see are a Police Station as I mentioned a few pages back and also a theatre. Guess a hospital could be interesting as well.

Suppose we could MOCup our design in LDD or multicoloured bricks.

Really excited to get my first Modular today. I think I may even go out and get a bookshelf to put up and have a dedicated space for my new lego assets. The smile I got from reading the weight of the UPS box is pretty great....8 pounds of lego man....8 pounds.

Now to stalk the UPS driver.

How many are you thinking to get. I think I'd be a little nervous having a street full of modulars on a shelf, they can get pretty heavy

Nearly picked up the lighthouse today, or the log cabin. Just fancied something quick and small to build.

I impulse purchased the Lighthouse for the missus a couple of weeks back because it was £25 at Argos. Not sure if it still is. They also have a sexy Technic quad at £17.99 that was fun to build.

I'm just waiting for my Hot Rod (5541) to be delivered at the moment. Can't wait.

i'll be caving and picking this up after work ^^

That thing looks so great, and it can be a great playhouse toy for kids, as it opens up and you can put little guys and furniture or lights inside. Wife and and I enjoyed building that so much, and I think it's what partially accelerated our thought process of looking for a new (real life) house too.

Second house model (summer house) looks really nice too.

OK, normally I wouldn't do this, but is anyone interested in buying my Falling Water Architecture model? Built once, displayed for a bit, everything is in perfect condition...I just don't want it anymore. Odd I know, but I was looking at it today and said to myself, "I don't care about you anymore." :| I love the model, but I just don't want it anymore. Rather than using Amazon, I figured I'd ask you all here on LegoGAF.

Right, after spending lots of money on Minifigures to get a complete series 6, I bought this from asda for £7.50.

Now I'm hooked. I think I've narrowed my next purchase down to the Millennium Falcon or the Tantive IV. Has anyone got either or both and would recommend one over the other?

Tantive IV is out of print. Get it if you can. I did not, and probably wont. But it is a nice looking set.

The Falcon is really cool to build, and looks great when done. But that one is easy to find and will be around for some time.

How much you looking for it? My gf is really into flw.

Going to put one of these together today. The wife has to go to the Mall in Raleigh Sunday so I'm either picking up the Space shuttle or Tanative or Falcon.

anyone looking to build the UCS millennium falcon? I've had car trouble and unfortunately have to consider selling mine before building it.

I tried to get as close to 100% accuracy as possible through bricklink or lego themselves. I've purchased every piece, but it lacks the proper printed dish, proper color boat rigging that covers the engine, and most minifigs. I made a few minor color substitutions, but kept it mostly to internal parts, and noted each change in case I was able to swap them out for 100% accuracy at some point.

Over $800 worth of lego...

So I finished the Imperial Shuttle last night, and while its really neat, I have some reservations about it, specifically the thrusts and the covers on the wings. They aren't put on very well, and seem to fall off easily. Its a problem because when I want to hold it, that's kinda where I naturally grasp it, especially if I don't have easy access to the bottom of it.

Did anyone else notice this, or did I just build it wrong?

PM'd!

They are rather fragile for holding, but pressing them on should stop them from falling off in general. But the weight of the model is a bit much to hold them by that.

I have pushed on them hard, but they still never feel secure. I was trying to roll up the wings becasue the area I have it isn't big enough to display with wings out, and the side panels were becoming loose just by steadying it.

Second in line if you'll ship internationally.

Where did you find that Hoth set? I've been looking for one that includes the snow speeder but can't find one.

The parcel is in the Depot Wembley Depot 23 Mar 2012 18:06

It's all power functions stuff that I can't carry on building without.....

To make up for it I went and got myself a PAB at Westfield. Will do some pics but they had some good parts.
