Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

What would you rather have, leaks about games/features, or leaks about hardware specs/dev impressions?

I can't decide.

Third party game leaks...I'm ok with. Even screens I suppose. I want all first party info and secret hardware features to be shown at e3 for the first time though. Like I said before, I'm still a bit heart broken about the 3DS being spoiled before its time.

Plus, I very much hope the circle pads are replaced with dual analog pad, come on Nintendo, this would REALLY help get devs on board IMO, it does wonders for Vita gameplay, IMHO.

The Vita analogs are weak and tiny....sorry...i prefer the 3ds circle pads, if Nintendo can make they bigger and more robust for wiiu im all for it...

I've always thought some of Trent Reznor's ambient stuff would work well in a Metroid game.

I agree. I remember when Metroid Prime
came out and Trent talked about how he was obsessed with the game and played nonstop for a couple of weeks. He's a pretty big Nintendo fan, but sadly something like this is only a pipe dream.

Didn't he help with Doom 3's sound design?

Wait a minute... "Those that made it a huge success in the first place".
Who is he referring to?

Am I wrong or Nintendo "first place success" was due to me and you guys during our chiuldhood?

I was 7 when I had my NES with SMB3... Was I a little dudebro adult?
The article seems to think so.

You know, I fail to see why Nintendo "should grow up" or some other cooky nonsense reason these so called journalists bring up. Nintendo is Nintendo, that's the reason why a lot of consumers like them. Honestly, I don't want them to change their focus. And if you like games in general, nobody should.

Because journalists want Nintendo to change with them.
Evolve to their specific tastes.
Which is rather dumb. Nintendo appeals to so many people that they don't (and shouldn't) care about making games that fulfill your blood lust.
You have a wealth of games for that as it is.
Give me more Mario and Zelda, damnit.

Quake's. Take a close look at the ammo box for the nailgun sometime.

I believe he signed up for Doom 3, but had to drop it due to other commitments.

I can't decide.

Strategically, I'd rather have them share hardware info so that the games can sizzle and shine at E3. Games are the bottom line of every console, and hardware discussion can sometimes detract focus from them.

Personally? I want to see games, games, games!

A game I would really love to see on Wii U outside of Japan is Zangeki No Reginleiv...
That would be great + they could even let Retro do that stuff to make it a bit more "western-like".
But it can also be the original updated with 720/1080p more details and so on!!
Nintendo would definately show from the beginning, with such a game, that they want to loose the "kiddy-image" that so many so called "hardcore-gamers" have given to them...

Sometimes I can bitch a lot about specs being important, but to be quite honest, all that matters is for Nintendo's lineup of software to be quality for the Wii U to do well.

If the software is amazing, gamers will buy it. More third party exclusives like Killer Freaks and Dragon Quest X would help a lot too.

Sure but I've heard ZnR wasn't a very good game.

I would rather have Xenoblade HD.

Just news of expected leaks. No idea from who, or what, though.
Not leaks, actual news. Rumor has it that some NDAs will be lifted in a few days (late March/ early April).

You've heard wrong, ZnR is actually quite awesome. But ZnR HD and Xenoblade HD would be a massive waste of time - the games are recent and play on Wii U, anyway.

Our Finnish colleague Mika Sorvari had a chat with Darksiders II 's game director Marvin Donald in Amsterdam. They took a serious talk about development, game mechanics and the upcoming Wii U-version.

- launch title
- have no release date from Nintendo
- "on par" with current gen
- not doing anyrhing on wiiu to get higher polycount, better res or textures, but want to make use of controller
- got it running quickly on wiiu

ZnR was more a hack n slay game, IT'S a new Nintendo IP (their first 18+ game), a lot of animated blood (yes its really a Nintendo game) and the gameplay videos werent bad, I liked them a lot, its only that the Japanese (Wii) audience was not ready for such a game from Nintendo.

Xenoblade HD would be awesome too...

Why do you think that would be a waste of time to produce ZnR 2 for Wii U?

With the Wii U tablet being able to personalize messages in standby mode, I think it will be the first console where people might buy more than one in a household for each person who wants to play it. Just so they can each have their own screens.

And another thing, hardcore gamers will come in droves if these features are built in from day one. Video messaging, game invites, and communities. I know that the people who use to think of Nintendo as having that "kiddy" image has grown up now and would have a much more mature outlook on the system.

Of course it all comes down to the games. But honestly, what gamer won't see the next Zelda running on HD hardware and not shit their pants?

Oh, I'd welcome ZnR2, I thought this was about a remake. Or a fucked-up westernized bastard - leave EDF/ ZnR to Sandlot. Having played through the game, a direct sequel isn't really possible, though.

Confirmation of Epic Mickey 2, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Rising and Resident Evil 6 alone would please me the most at this point. Knowing that those games have been announced for every system buy Wii U troubles me.

So.. I started Fragile Dreams last night, and figured I'd wonder aloud here, even if just for a moment: why weren't there more flashlight/exploration games on the Wii? Even though it's not the best game I've played, it's still quite good, and I'm loving snooping around every corner with my light, looking for items and clues.

And regarding Darksiders 2: I'm not surprised. It seems like lots of launch titles won't be taking full advantage of the power or capabilities of the system, which strikes me as funny but doesn't upset me too much. Low expectations and all.. (relatively speaking, of course)

Truth be told, I suspect that launch titles for the other two upcoming consoles also won't all take advantage of their respective systems' power.

Depends on the game's art style, and whether they keep a realistic look like the tech demo or not.

If they go with an artistic style like Skyward Sword or Wind Waker, it's going to split/divide gamers because everyone has an opinion on what constitutes as "good art".

I mentioned a remake only cos they didnt release it outside of Japan and I would love to play it, damn I would even buy it now for Wii.
A part 2 I would love to see on Wii U (worldwide release).
Of course Sandlot can still make it they have done great work with the first one.
But you never know what Nintendo plans for its developers...

Aside from the graphics, a Zelda made with advance hardware has many gameplay capabilities that I"m sure will excite people. Nintendo has a history of using the extra power for more creative gameplay more so than just increasing the graphics on level 9.

Imagine a seamless town full of denizens. Large mountains and forest scapes that you can traverse across. Jumping into a giant lake and swimming all the way to the bottom to seamlessly enter Zora's domain.

Not to mention the type of puzzles Nintendo will come up with. They already blew my mind with the Time Crystals in Skyward Sword, imagine what else they can come up with.

It's not in line with what Art. Director said on gamewelt.de yesterday (Wii U version looks really good) but here we have the truth. Disappointing even if not a suprise as most of us aren't expecting third party to visually push the system but due to the early announcement I was hoping for something else...

Disappointing.

Seems they're not going to take advantage of Wii U's additional horsepower.

Hmm, quite.

Or, perhaps there isn't much additional horsepower beyond what is needed to us the DRC.

I don't mind — I still want my Nintendo games in glorious HD... but the price needs to reflect the power. The 360 & PS3 will likely be down to $150/250 & $200/$250 respectively by the time Wii U launches.. And the controller alone isn't worth an extra $150.

Hopefully Vigil is just being lazy. Well, that's not a good sign either.. but, yeah.
