Legend of Korra |OT| - Saturday Mornings Just Got Better

Forgot about that.

But I guess I see where Twilight Princess is coming from. Besides her sociopathic behavior, bloodlust, lack of any real friends, and complete mastery of corrupted firebending powered by anger and hatred, there were absolutely no hints dropped that she may have a few screws missing!

you can be angry, full of hatred and mentally stable, just look at the many villains in history, or even serial killers, they don't go nuts, they keep killing, calmly killing. azula was like that for 14 years, took her mother's "abandonment" pretty well, and all of a sudden lost it to a few "friends" who she knew were going to turn against her?
azula was always chill and evil, until season 3, and then they fucked her. :(

Pro Bending is really well developed. Like, "I would watch a spinoff that focuses on an unlikely amateur with a ragtag team of lovable losers who dream about winning the big pro bending tournament" developed.
One team always "runs out of juice", that is getting old fast.

Azula's descent into madness made a lot of sense to me. The whole idea behind her and a lot of other crazy characters is that she looks strong and calm on the outside but she is weak on the inside. I think she could have surpassed Iroh and Ozai if she kept going. Oh and Katara beat her fair and square.

I'd watch that too.

Eh, if they were to dedicate an entire show to the sport I'm sure we'd have more fleshed out matches.

Seems like the pro benders of this time just aren't as good as the ones during wartimes :/ Could also explain why Tenzin hated the sport :P

The ONE thing I don't like about pro-bending is how small the movements have to be to satisfy the rules (ie. not stepping out of the lines, using small clay plates).

I loved seeing the way Zuko and Azula performed firebending with the large, elegant, and forceful movements. And, of course, Toph was an incredibly brilliant and creative earthbender.

On the other hand, Korra's waterbending movements are a great mix of athleticism, fluidity, and power. It's looked more exciting than it ever has, in my opinion. I kinda wish she'd use it more out in the wild instead of firebending, but I know that wouldn't be as practical since there's not always water within reach.

Hopefully Bolin and Mako are more visually impressive out in the streets.

Korra could always pull a Katara and carry water with her.

Actually I just re-watched the training scene were Bo-Lin sees Korra bend for the first time.
And the way he transitions her from her natural flat-footed style to his quick-style is absolutely hilarious if you know martial arts. I'm thinking Master Kisu had a hand in that scene.

Requesting a .gif of Meelo telling his father he's a bad teacher and kicking around the remains of the airbending-training props. Hilarious.

My only fear about pro bending is that some of creativity is taken out of it compared to real fights where you have all sorts of crazy inventive uses for bending instead of just striking. But it wasn't really noticeable in this episode so it's cool so far.

Hopefully the strategies within the framework of pro bending will be enough of a replacement for all the cool stuff they can't do now. I wonder what the rule is for airbending? Is it allowed?

Loving it. On to the next episode!... whenever that comes out.

Just saw the second episode. Tenzin's kids are so adorable, the pro bending matches were awesome, and Bolin and Mako seem like solid characters. Still hoping Korra won't be paired with Mako though.

They probably don't have a rule for airbending.

THERE IS NO RULE THAT SAYS A DOG CAN'T PLAY PRO BENDING.

much better than the first episode. I like Tenzin's beard, his face reminds me of Bryan Cranston/Walter White.. I also like that Mako isn't a copy of Zuko.

Since there are only 4 airbenders at the moment, three of them which are children, I doubt they ever even considered airbenders.

Well given Tenzin's official resistance, his family being the only(?) air benders (3 are children), and airbending
would break the game pretty badly i think its safe to say its not.

Considering how there's only about a dozen airbenders in existence - Tenzin, his children, and I think I saw some others pottering about - I doubt it's come up. Otherwise, three element teams still work; you just have to choose an element to exclude.

Edit: I might well have imagined the additional airbenders.

There'll be a few more pro bending matches this series, I'm sure, but I doubt they'll be a heavy focus on them.

episode 2 final scene

I know someone mentioned that that seen was an indication of a Mako-Korra romance, and I dont necessarily agree. It definitely does indicate that Mako probably has the hots for Korra since there is no other reason why he would be looking at air temple island but to think about her.

But Korra? I just think she was looking at the pro-bending to just remember what a good time she had doing it - also indicated by the stupid happy grin see had on her face. At least, that is my hope.

Yeah, Korra definitely wasn't looking at the Arena because of Mako. She did it because shes crazy about pro bending and bending in general.

I agree. She had that same exact grin on her face when she and Naga were in the ship on the way there.

Pro-bending probably isn't going to be a huge focus.

tenzins kids are amazing. pro bending was extremely fun to watch and korra was awesome as always

"promise me your teenage years wont be like this"
"i will make no such promise"

haha

That's true but the pieces are now in place and we will see if it ends up going there or not.

Plus the tension between the 2 going forward and the teasing wont help dampen it either

As long as that tension is poked fun at and teased by Bolin and Korra, I would have no problems with it. If pulled off well, I actually think it would be quite funny. Haha, look at the sensitive emo kid being all emo!

It might happen. Korra showed what it might be like in this episode when Bolin was like:

"Oh no I wasn't implying anything" and she just answered with "Oh, you were implying". Smiled at that little bit.

Plus in the sneek peek trailer
she asked Mako if he liked her, though in a way of teasing/fucking around/not being serious
:P

Once Korra is released on DVD (or will this series be released on Blu-ray?) I will buy it and the previous series even if it costs hundreds of dollars.

Is the first series reasonably priced?

I bought the first series for about $20 per season on DVD from Amazon a year or two ago.

Also, really enjoying the soundtrack so far. Its quite pretty. Though I havent heard anything as awesome as Agni Kai

Agni Kai is so good. One of my favorite tracks from the first series was Last Agni Kai which played during the Zuko/Azula fight (which was like the best fight in the series).

So the kingdoms still exist right? I assume the Fire Kingdom is still ruled by the fire lord, probably one of Zuko's descendants or maybe Zuko himself if he is still alive. I want to see what a modern Ba-Sing Se looks like.

Id be surprised if we venture out of Republic City in this season. And yea, the other kingdoms still exist. this was just turned into a cosmopolitan city due it being a former fire nation colony and a lot of bender mixing going on

The next Avatar should be this guy:
