Maybe in a different thread:

Did the first promotional artwork released for the original series spoil Toph?

Id imagine that tech is now moving much faster than it used to with Earth benders now being able to metal bend, and those metal benders now being able to work with fire benders

Yeah. But unless something terrible happens to the world at the end of the series, technology typically never stagnates. It only moves forward.

Actually, yes and no. Toph was originally going to be a buff jock dude who looked like the Earthbender in the opening.

They later changed her to be more awesome and that design ended up being used for Roku's Earthbending master.

Asami Sato seems a lot more Japanese than names usually are. It's the Fire Nation that has more Japanese-inspired culture right? From memory:

Air = Tibet, Nepal, etc
Water = Inuit
Earth = Korean, Southern China?
Fire = Imperial Japan, Northern China?
The most overtly Japanese influence is on Kiyoshi Island and with the Kiyoshi Warriors. They have Japanese names, jumping koi fish, the unagi (they had to be laughing when they picked this name), and warriors that look like some mashup of geisha and samurai.

I doubt it. But the guy was asking for promo art that featured the three main characters we're already familiar with, though I don't see why that would mean a 4th or 5th couldn't be introduced later.

I heard that movie was pretty fucking terrible but yikes.

I've never made it more than half way in. I just can't.

The reaction from
Toph's daughter
to that was great.

btw Asami Sato is being voiced by Princess Yue from shamalamadingdong's TLA movie

theyre crossin the streams yall

yeah im not sure at all how I feel about this. I mean I trust Brian and Michael. So she may be alright. But that film was so bad the stench of it might not have come off it.

Im glad I never watched it

I avoided it because I was worried that it would completely taint TLA for me

A thought came randomly to me a minute ago. I'm curious to see Lin actually Earthbend. I'm wondering if her style will be modeled after the standard Hung Gar Kung Fu that most Earthbenders use, or whether she'll use Toph's unique Praying Mantis style. In the original series Toph was at first the only character who used the Praying Mantis style since she was blind and read movements with her feet, but after she taught Aang he used that style as well. It was a cool little detail.

I'm assuming that Lin learned from her mother. Would be a neat bit of continuity.

I wonder if she could viably be a non-bender. Probably not, but oh well.

All she needs are clothes seeking throwing stars/knives of equalist inspired moves.

Or she could pick up the boomerang. Whatever happens, she should NEVER pick up a sword. It will decrease her usefulness since it will only ever do clothing or property damage.

Actually team Korra could win most battles in an instance with a earthbending + throwing knife combo. Bend a wall of earth behind them, then pin em to the wall.

the Mai jokes always make me laugh

Neat, never saw that before, but all she does is dodge. Can't tell from that unfortunately. Interestingly enough it looks like she's dodging a cable in that clip. It could just be an example, or it could imply that elements of the police go rogue later.

yea its pretty short but
i liked her transition from the dodge to earth bending the slab.

We will just have to wait then for longer footage.

Oh crap, I never thought of this. Praying Mantis was my favorite style in the show :(

So I just decided to check out the original series on Amazon streaming. First episode was okay. How long do you guys recommend giving it before I decide if it is something for me or not? Mid-twenties, but I have heard it has a broad appeal, so that is why I am checking it out.

For me the series didn't really click until season two. I thought it was just okay in season one, but after Toph was introduced and the worldbuilding was done, things became awesome.

At least finish episode 3. That episode is very good.

It is a bit of a slow start, but the last 3 episodes of season 1 are epic, and season 2 is all sorts of awesome. What makes the show great are the awesome characters and humor.

Iroh, Toph, and Sokka are all sorts of awesome and Zuko gets some seriously awesome character development

Also forgot about Azula. She's fantastic as well

Just watched the first two episodes.

I.. just.. it.. wow. Amazing. Stunning, even. The quality of everything is over-the-top. Animation, voices, characters, setting, premise. Just fantastic.

IIRC Nickelodeon already has an option to order more episodes after the first 26 eps if the show is succesful.

I thought the reason there wasn't more episodes ordered was because the creators wanted a more concise story and to reduce fillers. So it seems more of a creative reason rather than a production one.

They said they were happy with the number of episodes for the reasons you listed, but it wasn't their decision. I doubt very much that they'd turn down a request for more, even if they weren't under contract with an option.

Hmm. At this point though I'm sure most of the episodes are planned if they wanted less filler episodes. For Nick to buff up the episode count after say season 1, it would seem season 2 would have to be stretched out.

My guess is that this season is going to have a complete story arc but they'll leave things a bit open for the potential follow-up season.

There's already two seasons planned. I would guess that they have a general outline of what they would do in either a two or three season scenario.
