I never considered talents that just basically boost your damage and do nothing else to be very exciting.

It depends on whether it scales or not based on the number of conditions applied. if it does, you could make a condition-heavy build that really destroys. If it just gives a flat bonus, that's useful but not terribly interesting.

Well it depends on how much damage it adds, but I really like the fact that it ties everything I'm doing together. It's the neat little bow ontop of the whole package. That's what I envision.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. The way I look at it is, the more factors there are and the more customizable mechanics are, it gives birth to different types of builds and the number of different builds. More diversity.

Looking at Elementalist, I have no idea how I'm gunna make one.
I know I wanna go Earth, but what to do as a second element? And what weapon choice?
Staff seems like a good choice, but daggers also looks incredibly fun.
Also Summonable weapons? Yes please.

I'm going max Water / Fire with 10 in Air. The Elementalist is my first class too lol yet here I am so concerned about my Sylvari Guardian. xD

This anticipation is having an odd effect on me. It's actually making me want to play Guild Wars 1. I got the CE of it shortly after it came out but quit at like level 12 because I didn't have anyone to play with and hated most of the strangers I was playing with. But now I kind of regret giving up so easily...

I know it plays nothing like GW2 but I'm in the mood for something different right now anyway. But IDK if it will even be worth it since I don't have any expansions.

Odd choice for GameStop to be the ONLY retailer in the US doing pre-purchases on the CE.

I also asked MK if he had any idea as to whether or not we'd be allowed to do pre-purchase online rather than in a brick and mortar store and he didn't know. I really hope I can do it online, getting to a GameStop on the 10th would be a pain.

So EB games is it for Canada when it comes to pre-purchasing?

I haven't had much success with them in the past for other things...

That TB video had Necromancer footage, but it's so fucking frustrating.

Hit F1, damnit! Your bar's full.
Keep that pet out, you don't get healed now.

Dodge. Dodge! DODGE!

Every time that character went down, I felt like killing a puppy. You have Death Shroud - how is it you're downed?

This, gentlemen, is a clear sign I need this game hooked up to an IV drip.
Less than two weeks until pre-purchase... Guaranteed Beta Weekends galore...

What's that? New traits?
See you guys tomorrow...

Alright, cool, my local go to gameshop (GameMania) is participating in the pre-purchase. Buying there because I get points I can later exchange for a gift certificate. They're even selling the CE.

Completely agree. Any video that starts off with, "There's not much to discuss" or "I don't know much about the game" needs to be dismissed almost immediately. It's rather bothersome to try and watch videos from people who don't even have an idea of what the game is about.

TB is good for this kind of thing as he not only is a pro broadcaster, he played WoW pretty hardcore for years, he understands what people want out of an MMO and what WoW has been doing "wrong" / Anet are looking to change.

Best coverage I have seen so far.

It's a clear sign that when TB talks about combat, you just ignore him.

Im pretty sure that wasnt tb actually playing in that video. He mentions in the video all he played was a thief. I think it was just left over footage from the first beta test he used to post his thoughts. Plus the gameplay seemed nothing like when he played the thief. He was dodging constantly in the other video and in this one I dont think it was used once.

That's correct, that was Frank playing from the last beta weekend.

Did you know that men can multitask as well, at least to the extent of being able to watch and listen at the same time?

Also have no issue with the game's combat, that wasn't my point. I just got antsy watching this player playing that particular class in that particular instance.

Backseat gamer here, look out.

Interesting to see all the new traits. Really can't wait to get in beta so i can sort out my ele build, i have a vague idea but i'll need to play around with it first hand. Havn't even thought about my theif yet either.

Well, the list isn't complete yet. Maybe give it a week and see if any other retailers get on board. For example, I can't believe Amazon isn't handling Collector's Editions.

I'll probably give Gamestop a call soon and find out if they even have the Collector's Edition in their system. At least that way I can pre-reserve it and know I'm getting one. Hopefully they aren't quite as rare as ANet is making them out to be.

Dude, you definitely picked the right profession.

That was Frank, not Biscuit playing. I actually feel bad for TB, he's had so much go wrong during this Beta and he's obviously a big fan of the game. He was stuck in Finland for the first event and from what I hear, he's been having some kind of legal troubles that have prevented him from entering the country. What has everyone else heard?

Not banned, sidetracked. I just wanted to state why there was a void of bitching in the thread for such a long stretch. ;)

Oh, no, there wasn't anything close to a void of bitching. The bitching just wasn't the usual high-standard stuff we get from you and the people causing it all wandered away when they realized we weren't going to give them the attention. Your bitching, on the other hand, is usually quite insightful.

From what I understood from his Twitter, he had issues getting a new passport in order to get into the US.

I booted it up and played a little with my Dervish last night. I've still never beat the Nightfall campaign! Anyone wanna go through it with me? I'm still ranking up to Sunspear General right now (not a fan of the reintroduced grinding for this :P).

I really want to get 5 more points in the HoM.

Anybody want to point out what the easiest five to come by would be? http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=...AA&todo=AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Yeah, something to do with his wife? Either way, I feel bad because TB usually delivers really good commentary over high quality video, and his absence from the GW2 scene has been really noticeable.

Had TB been able to get his hands on it and play properly, we might not even be talking about Yogscast at all (which is fine by me).

Agreed on your last.

Apparently he got it on time this weekend, but didn't have recording equipment available, so it seems we're missing out on more footage than could have been. That's what makes me sad.

Grind the appropriate challenge missions to upgrade 9 more hero armors for 2 points. This shouldn't take more than 2 days; it's very easy to do the first 2.
Get an Oppressor weapon for doing War in Kryta for 2 points.
If you have factions, tame a Black Moa pet for 2 points.
If you have all 3 campaigns, get a Black Moa Chick minipet for 1 point.
If you're close to Zaishen r3, get that for 3 points.

All the gameplay footage of the Thief profession was starting to move it up to my number one spot, but then I looked into the new Elementalist traits. So many crazy changes, they varied out the damage buffing traits a lot, so it really makes it hard to choose.

Icy Mist(Chill, vulnerability, and cause damage to nearby foes while in mist or vapor form.) seems like an automatic must trait for both PvP and PvE. Not only be able to avoid a big attack, but to also cause chill, vulnerability and damage.

Elemental Attunement(You and all naerby allies gain might when attuning to Fire, Swiftness when attuning to air, protection when attuning to Earth, and regeneration when attuning to water.) Also seems like a must for a good PvE dungeon build.

Thanks! I do have all 3 campaigns, so hopefully that'll get me a couple easy points. What are the challenges/elite armors you mean regarding the "first 2"?

I'll be picking Asura, but damn if all of these videos don't make it that much tougher to pick a class to start out with. I have no idea anymore. lol

Also, bit saddened by no Steam news :( I really want it on there, seems odd for it not to be, but I don't really know the behind the scenes shenanigans of it all I suppose.

Its because Valve wants a cut of the money companies earn through their games ingame stores.

There is a mission in Nightfall at the Dojuk Docks or something where you have 10 minutes to kill a bunch of Guild Lord Corsairs. Each time you kill one you get a chance for them to drop a stolen sunspear armor which you barter for Hero Armor for your heroes. Once you have that, you can submit your hero to the Hall of Monuments. Its pretty easy, even just keep running the mission over and over until you get the pieces you need.

Edit: This mission: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dajkah_Inlet

I cant wait for pre purchase to start, its insane how much I like how this game plays and looks, after 7 years of playing wow this is first mmo that got my full attention and looking forward to it so much to me it feels like wow vanilla something new, fresh and epic.

Great gaf podcast cant wait to hear more from you guys that was awesome.

Played about an hour, said it didn't draw him in. He was really excited to play it, but was let down.

I definitely wasn't sold on the first hour. I chose a Charr Warrior and it just didn't work for me. I later started a Human Elementalist and loved it.

Unfortunate that he didn't give it more time.

Did he say what level he got to? An hour is usually a pretty short amount of time in an MMO.

I wasn't in the beta so I have no idea how far you can get in an hour or what you experience. Maybe someone on GAF who was in beta can answer me.

I find it difficult as well but I'm making a Elementalist first, Guardian second, Ranger third... I'll actually have everything except a Mesmer & Necromancer. Those classes really just hold no interest to me.

Eh, the fact that Jeff loved Guild Wars and liked the story portion of SWTOR (and nothing else) just shows that he's a single player MMO player. Nothing wrong with that, but his seeming dislike for public quests and raids/group based stuff would put him off traditional MMOs.

It's another perspective, but one that might not be in line with what a more traditional MMO is.

An hour? Ridiculous.

I'm a tad upset about the GameStop info. It put the nail in the CE coffin for me. Digital Deluxe x2 I suppose. If the CE had any in game aesthetic, I would have to force myself to give GS my money.

Necro was supposed to be my second choice for profession, but watching all the videos, it has really gone down a lot. I don't know whether it is the pets(I generally hate pet classes) or the lack of diversity, just the more footage I see of Necro's the less I want to play.

I'm also sort of in your same boat with Mesmer. I don't out right not want to play one, but I think I need to actually play it to get a feel for it. But for me it's the same, these two are in last place at the moment.

I haven't really seen anything beyond the classes and earlier videos of game play, is the new battles system going to be overly complex? I keep seeing you guys mention traits and such and have no idea what that is. I imagine the game should do a good job at introducing it in the tutorial, hopefully. I'm a veteran of GW1 PVE so hopefully it's not too alien. The main thing I know about for this game is that your weapon controls what skills you can have equipped so I presume you can macro the full skill bar for each weapon to swap bars on the fly. What is this trait stuff? and is there anything else new to the combat system?

An hour for an MMORPG is ridiculous. The man's played several MMOs, including GW1, and GW1 had one of the slowest starts ever. He should know better. These games are designed to be played for very long amounts of time. I just find anyone giving impressions of a game like GW2 after an hour of playtime a bit silly.
