She said there were a couple holdouts from the employees who didn't want to switch their android work phones to WPs but a majority did and they're all digging it. At the very least it will help alleviate a lot of the employee hate towards the OS.

Oh ya, she also figured something out with the phone in the first few hours of having it that I had no clue about, 5 months in. If you hold down the windows icon/button, it brings up a speak/siri-esque menu.

Monday. I believe everyone will be closed Sunday due to Easter.

That is incredibly stupid.. to announce that a phone is available on the 8th but not be open to sell it until Monday?

Their press release says the 8th.. and they (almost) always do their phone launches on sundays..

It seems unlikely that AT&T's PR department would be unaware of the impending holiday.

Damn, now I'm also getting tempted even though there's no real reason to upgrade. Maybe if I find an extra stack of cash lying around...

I'm just telling you, AT&T COR stores will not be open on Sunday the 8th. So no, you can't buy it in an AT&T store that day. You will, however, be able to go online and buy it on the 8th. You might also find an indirect retailer (BB, Target, Walmart, etc) who will be open on the 8th, and buy one there. But if it is a COR store you wish to purchase from, it will have to be Monday, the 9th.

Where do you live?

Meaning, I'm wondering if this is a local closure or an actual national thing.

Edit-Googling makes me think that the 8th is when phone/internet orders will start and the 9th is actually when it will start being sold at retail as ATT stores will be closed.

Easter Sunday? You will find most businesses are closed, or have very limited hours, on that day. And as mentioned, AT&T COR locations will be closed.

Precisely.

Still think in all of these pics that the 800 looks better. If it had LTE then I'd call it the better of the two. :P

Looks nice though. I like how well the colors look though as a lot of times colored phones can just look cheapie.

The 800 has the cool curved screen, but like the other neat elements of the N9 it got chucked out.

At least the 900 was designed with WP in mind and has the same amount of bezel on the top and bottom of the glass like the N9 did and unlike the 800; I hate the soft key placement on that phone so much.

We want to know if your wife's sister is hot :P
If you don't mind ask her how is the battery life.

I think people always excited with new stuff also now everyone has iPhones do probably nice to have something difference. Curious if they would go back to android or iPhone because of lack of apps...

Brot, troll. Do you guys think the new ot will be done before lumia launch?

I'm home today finally, so the gif should be done. You asked for a bunch of people on it and I just couldn't do that. As far as headers and such no one really said anything so I dropped it, Brot is working on it already so I wanted to put my time into something less redundant.

we are getting it here, too, in austria.

I don't know how Windows Phone handles updates, but I don't see how AT&T would be a problem with it being a world phone?!

Updates can be issued against phone imei's so carriers get a range of handsets which are assigned to them, they then decide if an update is released to said imei range.

Sure am glad I bought this Lumia off contract.

It's a shame Microsoft/Nokia don't have that kind of pull to forgo carriers in this regard.

Your mind is going to blow when you hold the back button down and realise it allows multi tasking.

Second day of owning a Lumia 710. Windows Phone is some sweet stuff. Much smoother and overall more pleasant than that other OS that is not Apple.

Only 5 cards, right? Are we getting anymore? I thought I heard some rumors...

Only 5...the rumor was mistaken, that was a custom rom.

I don't know, I never find 5 to be too limiting but may be it's just how I used the phone.

I'm still hoping. I know the rumor was for Tango and stuff, but maybe they'll increase things with Apollo and just tie the number of cards to the amount of RAM on the device. So maybe devices with like 1 gig of RAM will be able to have more. IDK....

the best part of that pic is the blurred out keys, since people can remake a key from a photo.

True. The WP world is counting on this thread for info ;P

On that note, here are some updates from the reps at my store. They have, I believe, 7 devices, between a few of the reps and the two managers (Managers have cyan, reps have black). A couple of them are very familiar with WP7, the others not so much....

  • Lots of complaints about the phone being slick, and hard to keep hold of.
  • The speaker is pretty weak, and alarms, specifically, are hard to hear.
  • Auto-rotate, can't be turned off, and is a bit overanxious at times.
  • Screen is awesome, as are most OLEDs. Bright sunlight is no problem.
  • Camera is great. Both stills and video look really nice.
  • Charging port is on the top, and makes talking on it while charging hard, if not impossible.
  • One of them is dead already. Everything worked fine, except calls were totally garbled.
  • Lot's of grumbling, as you'd guess, about app selection. No news there. Not a Lumia fault.

Overall, though, it seems like everyone generally likes it. The hardware is pretty good, and the phone is very fast and smooth. I think at $99, it is going to get a lot of looks. It's either the 900, the iP4, or the GSII at that price, and the 900 puts up a lot of good positives comparatively. I'm interested to see how it plays out in the coming weeks/months, especially with the huge marketing push behind it.

1.) This one doesn't make sense to me after feeling the finish of the 800
2.) That sucks hope its just a setting missed
3.) Not a problem for me
4.) Excellent
5.) Good to hear. Can you locate a Titan at your store to compare?
6.) Not a problem for me. It actually makes it easier for me to charge while driving
7.) Did rebooting it fix it?
8.) True. Most people since they are new to the platform don't know about any alternatives. There's some amazing Youtube apps, I have my Sirius Satellite radio, pandora, etc. Me personally I'm only missing 2 apps. PNC, RSA Secure ID. Once I get those two my app list is complete.

So... I have problems with the Spotify app. It is always in Offline mode and I can't make it go online at all. Reinstall, reboot.. nothing works.

1 - I've never felt the 800, but a couple have said this.
2 - Even the WP7 guys have said this, so I'm guessing it isn't a setting.
5 - I'll see what I can do.
7 - Nope. They switched SIMs even, and it got worse. Just a bad egg, I guess.

I might get a Lumia just because I'm going on vacation in a few weeks and could use a decent camera (and battery life). The Samsung Focus is kind of abysmal in both regards.

I remember reading about low volume issue on the Lumia 800 also. That's too bad. I used the speaker on my Titan all the times so this would suck.
