Secret Twist:
It was actually M. Night Shyamalan in a Christopher Nolan suit all along. edit: SMH, did double post without thinking. Sorry guys.

Amon is secretly a bender. He Wants to eradicate other benders so nobody can oppose him when he siezes power.
One bender can't defeat an army of nonbenders.
Fuck, sometimes a small unit of benders cant defeat a single nonbender. See: Tai Lee vs. Sandbenders.
Tai Lee is broken, though.
If she were in a video game, she'd be nerfed.
If only we had an example of a world where bending didn't exist so we could find out for sure.
Definitely rooting for Amon as a Well-Intentioned Extremist. I've always been able to trust anyone voiced by Blum.
Ozai was a pretty shallow villain, probably the biggest weakness of the original series from a narrative perspective discounting the deus ex turtle. They got away with it because Azula was so good and the largest villainous onscreen presence. Fortunately it seems that Amon is going to get a lot more attention in this series.

Oh god pony invasion.

Lion Turtle said:"In the era before the Avatar, we bent not the elements but the energy within ourselves. To bend another's energy, your own spirit must be unbendable or you will be corrupted and destroyed."
Statement there is a little ambiguous - there does not seem to be any tangible constraint restricting Energy-bending to 'pure-of-heart' souls.
I'm being reminded of the Vegeta-complex (just made that up), during his ascent to super-saiyan status despite the preconceptions as to the supposed pre-requisites; i.e. pure-spirit.
I really hope I am wrong, and that this form of bending is restricted to the Avatar.
you guys scared prof beef away![]()
Would much rather see it directed by Guillermo Del Toro.

And of course Azula was just the batshit insane powerhouse prodigy that wanted the Fire Nation's victory at any cost, She was always the perfect extension of her father's evilness.
Ah sorry should have be more specific. I meant insane more like she was an evil bitch who who never hesitated to use whatever means possible to reach her goals.
I could never really get to calling her evil. She never tortured anyone. Usually used subterfuge and coercion before brute force to get things done.
Killing Aang and suggesting the Firelord burn the Earth Kingdom wholesale are her cruelest acts, which in the context of a kids show are rather evil.

He'll be back, Billy. We must hold strong till then!and afterwards
Maybe Amon is a sorcerer or alchemist, as the reason he can go toe-to-toe with benders. I could definitely see the creators throwing that kind of curveball at us, despite how low of a chance Nick would actually allow that if they wanted too.
To me that'd be far more interesting then him being a secret bender.
The fuck...
I don't think I'd feel safe around you in real life honestly.
No. Amon wants to eradicate bending he wants to be the only bender left so he can feel special. There is no being special if there are a lot of benders.I am kidding
Amon is secretly Zombie Aang, and they've been using his body and ability to bend all four elements to achieve domination over other benders.Remind me to never join in the speculation side of this thread
But coming up with crazy theories is half of the fun!
My current theory? Amon is an Avatar. Aang's "death" death at the end of Book 2 messed with the avatar cycle and at that time another person was born with the potential to bend all four elements. Training and amassing forces in secret for 70 years, Amon plans to eliminate the competition before taking over the world.
All of that and the villain still just wants to take over the world? C'mon, Wiseblade!

Honestly no reason to make this personal. If a statement pertaining to a fantastical world is enough for you to determine I'm a danger to your well being, then so be it. But for the sake of discussion, I would appreciate you counter the point within the context of the show and particular character.
It's probably my fault for trying to offer an impartial view on a world set where good and evil is explicitly assigned. I try to keep things relative. I can agree that the Fire Nation is misguided and Ozai is certainly evil. His greatest sins are being such a shit character but that doesn't mean Azula needs to be described as such. Killing the major antagonist to your goals (Aang) is a reality of conflict and really the same thing most of the Gang would have endorsed from the otherside: killing Ozai. The largest character blow is obviously the genocide suggestion, and is really indefensible as an act.
My pro-bending team names:
The Flamios
or
The Fearsome Foursome (one too many I know)
And rewatching TLA is so much fun.

No no,
Amon wants to eradicate bending so people will want to buy his new Science fueled weapons.
I got 10 bucks on a Chain-Gun showing up.
Hmm... didn't Sokka like science?
Amon = Sokka confirmed?!
It's been a while. What happened?

Did you forget the bit where Azula shot Aang with lightning? He was all "Avatar state, yip yip!" and She was all "lol nope" and then at the start of Book 3 Aang was all "I didn't just go down, it was worse than that." Which sounds like Nickelodeon code for 'I died' to me.

"Sapphire Fire, pleased to meet you."
Kills me every time.
Azula shot him with lightning while he was in the Avatar state and according to Roku if an Avatar dies while in the state the entire cycle would be broken. Its implied Aang actually died but luckily Katara saved him with her healing so he basically became Jesus.
