Game Informer Tease: "Screenshots ... are gorgeous. My jaw is still on the ground..."

Someday, I hope Gaf bans/prohibits shallow hype bait "teasers/announcements/pseudo-reveals" by other news outlets be it other sites or magazines.

One step away from just letting GI creating ad-threads on the forum itself ( which they aren't allowed to).
announcements of announcements

as long as the hype and anticipation concentrates on the games shown and not the magazine/show/site where it's unveiled...

AMEN.

This thread is a complete joke... hats off to the gameinformer marketing team.... got the internet chattering by basically saying absolutely nothing meaningful.... and letting gamers fill a void with nonsense conjecture. I love the fact that people pour scorn onso-called viral marketers and then fall over themselves to fap about a comment like this... what exactly do you think this is an example of if not viral marketing?

And when the magazine does come out it almost doesn't matter what the game is or isn't, the comment can be justified against anything as it is completed subjective.

I hope not. Speculating, anticipating and getting hyped is 50% of the fun for me.

Sure I agree, when it comes to something that isn't a monumentally insubstantial rumor that is.

"Kotaku rumor : ps4 specs" <- pages upon pages of entertaining and informative speculation, anticipation and hype to be had.

"Some dude : I saw some jawdropping screenshots". So, is this somehow uncommon with regards to the gaming press?

Just gimme Halo 4 already.

We already know a lot of work has been done on making the lighting top-notch, and FPS have a strong emphasis on graphics.
Plus, 343i has been pretty vocal on Halo 4 being much more cinematic than its forebears.

Gameinformer is the biggest video game magazine in the world. It´s not some dude. They do get awesome exclusives from time to time.
They might not reveal "your favorite game" every time, but I think the recent reveals were pretty awesome.

Actually it is still some dude ( that works there ), unless he uniformly represents the views and taste of GI as a whole but that's beside the point, the press are shown games all the time. Imagine every single time a gaming press representative was shown a great looking game and would proceed to hype it up ( hint : they do this every month... year... after year, it's called their magazines. )

Where's the discussion to be had? I guess I could join.

I hope it's either :

- Crysis 3
- God of War 4
- Bayonetta 2
- System Shock 3
- Death Soul's

I hope it's one of those.

With that expression we shouldn't expect anything less than a new PC benchmark game as Crysis was. But then, it is Game Informer.

LucasArts announces a return to form when their hiring of Clint Hocking and licensing of the Unreal Engine finally pays off in STAR WARS: REPUBLIC COMMANDO 2. Set 5 years after the first game, you are an elite clone operative dropped behind enemy lines onto a planet gripped by rebellion. Your squad's mission: cause mayhem and destabilize the insurrectionist government any way you can in this open-world shooter. Through the lens of Katarn 2.0 battle armor, your character will come to terms with his future as a rapidly-aging soldier with no real war to fight in a military flooded by non-clone recruits. 4 player online coop.

UE3, gorgeous and jaws on floor don't really mix.

I've longed for a sequel to Heavenly Sword on SSM's God of War engine. I still hold hope it'll happen one day.
I think it's best Heavenly Sword is left as it is, one great game. They
killed the main character and wrapped up the game nicely, yes they could do kais story, do a prequel or a sequel starring someone else to do with the sword, there is a nice universe there, but there's no need to.

There's always the 'anime' they made to watch as something extra.

The plot isn't overly important to the game, so the possibility exists for a deus ex machina to set the foundation for a sequel. I think what I liked most about Heavenly Sword is its abundance of... unique character.

Realistically, though, another entry is never going to happen. :p

It happens every month. A cryptic yet hype filled twitter message,Gaf makes a 20 page thread. The reveal comes and people rage then the men in Black seemingly memory wipe everyone rinse and repeat..

Man, if it is really Halo 4, I will be annoyed. The game is cool and all, but I want a megaton, like Republic Commando 2 or Heavenly Sword 2, as mentioned before.

Heavenly Sword did have a great cast of characters, and i do wish it had been set up in such away as to give us a good trilogy of games, looking at all the characters backgrounds, more of the lore etc. Just have to hope they make another good game, Enslaved didn't blow me away though the bigger story/universe was very interesting at the end.

Its unlikely to happen yes, doesn't mean you can't hope =P

News: Crytek GM Nick Button-Brown has said that “PC is our next-generation” and that they’re already ‘way ahead’ of other next-generation platforms.
It seems you can’t go a single week without bumping into a next-gen console rumour these days (the latest concerned an apparent release date for the Xbox 720), but Crytek aren’t bothered about any of that, as their focus is primarily on PC.

Speaking in an interview with CVG, Crytek GM Nick Button-Brown said: “It’s always a continuous evolution on our engine. We delivered DX11 for Crysis 2 and we’ve continued evolving that. Our next-generation PC stuff looks great. We are showing some of that, so we’re really pushing the boundaries on PC. PC is our next-generation and we’ll keep going with that.”

Button-Brown also went on to say that PC tech is way ahead of next-generation platforms, and Crytek will be able to deliver a level of visuals that far exceeds what we’ve currently seen. “CryEngine 3 is already visually stunning,” he said. “The PC next-generation that we have is way beyond what we can deliver on these current-generation of consoles, So if we’re looking at next-generation platforms that aren’t PC then we’re already a long way ahead.”

The next-generation seems to be looming ever closer, and it looks like the studio behind Crysis are sticking their colours firmly to the PC mast. You can follow all the latest Crytek coverage here at BeefJack.

Of course. You're talking to the one person who firmly believes we'll see Half-Life 3 this year. ;)

Please be GoWIV, please be GoWIV. Though regardless, we know that's going to look absolutely eye bleedingly gorgeous anyways.

I think Sony will just leave the reveal to E3 now :(

I've learned to never trust Game Informer with their full word. It's probably something underwhelming, and GAF may end up hyping this a tad too much in similar vein to their cover teases.

Haha, no. It's an educated guess I am making though, not sure if the game I am thinking of is usually being revealed in US publications first.

Last time I heard something about that particular racing game is that the reveal announcement is going to happen a couple of weeks before E3, not 2 months before.

Crytek interview: 'We don't want to be the company that just does sci-fi shooters'
With all this talk of mobile, a lot of our readers are now going to be asking, 'are you still committed to big budget first-person shooters?'

Absolutely. There are so many things I can't talk about... A big part of our business is big budget console and PC games. We are doing all these other things, but they're on top of that and we're doing them because they're interesting. We still want to deliver the highest quality that we can, wherever we go. You know about Homefront, you know about Ryse. We are working on another project... [laughs] all three of which are looking really good.

The other project looks absolutely fantastic - I mean, genuinely the best of that kind of project we've ever done. It looks spectacular, the team are doing really, really well and it's just really nice to see the team really enthusiastic about what they're doing. They're really happy. We're going to carry on doing those games. We like doing mobile games, we like doing free-to-play, but we also like blowing things up in a visually stunning style.

When will you be able to tell us more about that?

April! We're constrained by our publisher's PR machine but we're really excited by what we're seeing.

Crysis 3 would be stuck in odd tweener land though.

Is it supposed to be for this gen or next??? This gen is already tapped graphically so that would inspire yawns...next gen would presumably be too early to talk about...

It could be, they debut it as "PC screens", only it looks better than any game seen before by a wide margin. Later it's revealed to also be coming to next gen consoles.

If above is true, then it could be the first true next gen screens we see (an event I've been wondering when will occur).

However all the above seems doubtful, April 12 seems to early to hype a game coming in Nov 13 (if for next gen). Crysis 2, they hardly showed anything until it was very near I recall, surely at EA's direction, but it's doubtful EA would change.

All that assuming a lot though, it probably wont be Crysis 3, Halo 4, or anything big, but rather something underwhelming as go these overhyped announcements...

I understand the need to keep the hype machine well lubricated, but screen shots are not a good representation of anything, let alone a particular game's graphics.
