3DS Streetpass Experiences

Got my Reggie. I'll be disappointed if his magic spell isn't a golden chin laser that blasts him through the last few rooms of find Mii with little resistance.

This has definitely not been my experience. If I accumulate 10 StreetPasses in Mii Plaza it doesn't take in any more until I at least go to the plaza gate - and it'll start collecting passes again while I'm still greeting those 10. If I wait until I go home to check the plaza gate, there will never be anyone beyond those 10.

okay, so when i go to the zelda concert, i should constantly be checking my mii plaza, for fear of missing out on streetpasses? that sucks, did anyone else spend their time at the show doing this a lot?

So last night I went to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert in Tampa hoping to get a few Streetpasses but NADA. Geez, seriously wtf...there were probably 30,000 people there and nobody was weird enough like me to bring their 3DS over? =/

haha, i went to the local fair last night - thousands of people, all ages! i only managed 3 passes, and 1 was of course Reggie, haha.

I imagine you'll have to do a lot of checking while moving around, but not so much while seated for the show itself. I like to check the notifications to see just how many passes are queued up and only launch Mii plaza/go to the plaza gate if I'm near full. To get the most out of it you have to do puzzle swap/find Mii before going to the plaza gate again.

ah, see, i get swapnote hits from here @ GAF a lot so most notifications are from that, might have to turn it off while im there. don't you usually only get 1 notification from a batch of streetpasses though? maybe ive not been watching that screen.

and you're absolutely right, this is like my one chance to get the unique pieces & fill up my puzzles! im still early on find mii 2 (stoopid light blue shielded ghost stops everybody), and i hear it has a few paths too...but i finally had the sense to stop taking non-unique pieces to finish up puzzles and to start new ones so the odds of wasting coins on duplicate pieces went down.
speaking of - is streetpassing the only way to start a new puzzle? there's always people who have 3-4 entire boards ive not seen, can you not randomly get a new puzzle piece from paying 2 coins ever?

Streetpassing and spotpass are the only ways to get new puzzles. If you streetpass someone and you see they have a puzzle you don't you ought to take it.

No need to turn anything off. The Streetpass Mii Plaza notification sticks itself to the top of the notification list when you have people waiting at the gate. The green light on the system will blink a few times when a Streetpass is registered then stay on until you open the system. I don't think you have to worry about getting the notification types confused.

I only need about 10 more pink pieces and about 25-30 regular pieces and I'll have every puzzle complete. This will probably take 15 minutes to accomplish during PAX East. Next big Nintendo game seems to be Mario Tennis, so I'm guessing another panel will be added for that.

Man, I was down in Cambridge, Mass around MIT for two weeks, walking by tons of people everyday at lunch, and I didn't get a single street pass or tag. Apparently MIT students are too smart for 3DS? Lame.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but... when I go to Mii Plaza, the arrow to get to the gate thingy is now gone on my 3DS. Before, it was always there, even if nobody had shown up. Now, that arrow simply doesn't exist.

I have StreetPass and SpotPass both set to on. Any idea where my arrow went?

It's only ever shown up for me if someone new has arrived.

Weird. It had always been there for me, until I turned my 3DS off and on yesterday (which I think is the first time I've done so since getting it).
Did you recently get your first StreetPass tag? The arrow is always there until you get your first StreetPass tag, after which it only appears if you get a new StreetPass tag while in the StreetPass Mii Plaza.

51 Streetpass Miis since Christmas. I must have good luck.

Any idea what the range is on this thing or how long it takes for a Streetpass to register? Pretty sure I get Miis just by zooming past a Gamestop at 40 mph.

The range is approximately 100 feet, and StreetPass connections are usually instant, though sometimes it may take awhile to register for whatever reason.

My 3DS-owning cousin came over the other day. I didn't even have to look out the window to know he had arrived; the green Streetpass light was all I needed!

If you guys are in the DC area, several members of Streetpass DC such as myself will be meeting up at the 2pm show of Video Games Live this Saturday if interested.

Aaah. Okay. Yeah, that's it exactly. Thanks!

holy shit. wow, I didn't know that the signal is that strong.
no wonder a friend of mine gets tons of streetpasses everyday by doing nothing but living above one of the busiest streets. He puts his 3DS on the window seat in the morning and has up to 5 hits later in the evening.

hhmmm.....thinking of it: It may be worth it to put the 3DS on the dashboard while driving.
the question is: what's the speed limit?

I've gotten StreetPasses while going 65mph on the freeway, so it's definitely possible at high speeds.

Just like the DS, the 3DS seems to be very popular with girls => I've had about a 100 streetpass encounters with girls (all playing Mario Kart 7).

I got him, went into Find Mii 2, and he got scared off by a mummy.

The enemies in Find Mii 2 are dicks.
That and all these rooms that make you waste miis without ever knowing beforehand what you will need. That and the pink puzzle pieces left a bad taste. It's to get more longevity out of these, I know but it does a poor job at motivating me.

Is it possible to hire a cat hero with the colour you need for a shield? I seem to have gotten every single colour apart from yellow. =/

It's a tactical trade off. You want to maximize your team's total available skills and magic, without wasting too many from ambushes and impenetrable conditions (fire, ice, sandstorms etc).

So there's definitely more "gambling" involved in Find Mii 2 but that's gratefully offset by being able to hire heroes of colors of your choosing.

...i have wasted so many goddamn coins
Same. If I want streetpass hits, I need to visit the 3 stores in the city that still have the demo 3DS.
Unless I go to a bigger city, where I'll get 2 streetpass hits max from actual 3DS owners, it's either making a trip to the demo 3DSes or cough up coins.

How many seconds do you need for a StreetPass hit to happen?

It happens literally instantaneously.
My friend's roommate has a 3DS. I went to his room to play Mario Kart. His 3DS however was completely discharged and the blinking red lights were on for all of a second before the thing turned itself off. In that time frame however, I got a StreetPass from him.

As in have a fresh queue.
I didn't know you could erase them.

You just go to your Mii Plaza and if you have any StreetPasses, they'll show up. Go through the list by basically hitting A, take any puzzle pieces you want and use them to go through your Find Mii quests and the queue will empty.

Oh, okay thanks.
For other games, I just go through the Notifications, right?

To my understanding, there's always a trigger of some sort to empty the queue.

In Mario Kart, you have to go to the Mario Kart Channel for it to process and empty the queue (which is more important, since the upper limit on streetpasses for MK7 is 3 instead of the plaza's 10).

In 3D Land....well I'm not so sure. The limit there is 3 as well, but what triggers and empties the queue? I can't say. Maybe just loading a file up so it dumps the mushroom houses? Don't quote me on that one.

Ditto on Kid Icarus or Harvest Moon, haven't had any streetpasses for those yet.

Thank you do much! :)
So every game has its own separate StreetPass queue, as opposed to a universal queue at the OS level like I'd been afraid of. That's good to know.

Yeah.

Hold on, I'll get you a photo.

Basically each streetpass game has a separate queue that looks like this. This is 3D Land with all 3 slots filled. I should fire the game up to empty it.

ugh, same! 2 from a fucking fair last week, 0 from a concert. i work at a university, took it around there the other morning...1. WTF, these things are selling like mad! carry them around, people!
and again, the one kid in my building plays mario kart all day. never even started the puzzle game.

oh yeah! one more question for the zelda symphony: I know i need to keep clearing the 10 in queue to get more while doing so, but let's say i finally exhaust the passes around me, either before or after the show: if i sent the 3DS clock a few days in the past (or future), can i get those people again?

Yeah.

I used to wonder what that little number is :P
Thankfully, I clear out a StreetPass as soon as I get it.
Some more miscellaneous questions I have: why aren't StreetPass notifications saved? Why does the StreetPass Transfers option in my System Settings menu read zero?

Lol, sorry for bombarding you with questions.

Heh, it's fine. I'm home sick today so whatever.

Not sure why the streetpass notifications aren't saved but the spotpass ones are persistent. I wish I could delete the four trillion swapnote entries I've got. It's very cluttered.

As for that counter under the options, mine reads the same. I assume it's just a bug. It's never worked for me.

I went to one of my University's plays over the weekend, around 150 people there. Got 6 streetpasses, but only one with any new puzzle pieces.:/

Also got 2 more playing tennis last Sunday.

Ah, I see. Well, I hope you feel better soon!

And yeah, 'Mark Read' and 'Delete' options for the Notifications will be much appreciated in the next firmware update.

And I've never checked, but maybe the counter only shows uncleared StreetPasses...?

Also, y'know. That's a real good thought.

So I checked.

And you're 100 percent right. It says I have 3 for 3D Land. Listing it as "Data Transmissions" sure makes it sound like it should be a total, though. Hah.

This gets me too. There is one person in my apartment building who I streetpass relatively often, but who never has any damn pieces. My custom message to her is "Puzzle pieces :(" and has been for weeks.
