Old school turn based multiplatform CRPG Avernum: Escape from the Pit is out for iPad.

Kinda debating if I should get this or wait for the PC version (it should come soon, was supposed to be simultaneous after Mac).

Does anyone have it, is it super smooth and the interface intuitive or will it stagger, load slow, and I'll miss right clicks/hotkeys etc?

Edit: on iPad2 so no high res either for me, I hope inventories, dialogues, etc, aren't annoyingly small and easy to mistap.

I liked Avadon on PC but this would be my first real Spiderweb RPG (Avadon being their Icewind Dale of sorts, simplified in depth).

Although the asset reuse will annoy me I can get past that if the game is as good as I hope. Did Technomancer make an OT or?

This look like something I need to investigate. Glad I grabbed a couple of iTunes cards that Walmart had on sale yesterday.

Wow, this looks pretty superb. I hope it's readable on iPad 2!

Having spent some time with imperium Galactica 2 I'm a bit conflicted.

It's an amazing game, an old space 4X favorite of mine that's 12 years old. But it's a shoddy port in the end with the bare minimum given regards to the platform PC > iPad transition. It's the full fledged PC game, with the exception of multiplayer and minor camera control omissions wrapped in a thin iOS skin.

No game center integration or other iOS features like multitasking support. The UI works well but the touch interactivity is hit & miss-sloppy during actual gameplay. Feels like they've just hid the mouse cursor and replaced it with a "droplet" effect that registers your taps 0.5 seconds too late. I've also had the iOS header with the wifi/clock/battery stats appear and overlap UI elements randomly, further adding to the "PC game in an iOS skin" feeling.

There has also been no advancements or additions done to help new players into the game. The tutorial consists of a lowres video explaining the basics of the menues but it doesn't actually explain anything in regards to why you should do X when and why when playing. The campaigns dump you with 2 star systems and a fleet and that's it, off you go. This game needs its manual, it's a crime that the 100 page PC manual hasn't been included as a PDF or similar.

Anyone interested in this game be ready to fend for yourself (or at least download the manual from somewhere and read up!). It's a great game if you're already familiar with it but coming in cold will burn you hard.

Maybe the devs will update the game with new features and such but I'm not betting anything on that.

Starting to see a trend with these PC ports. There's a demand for them, and these apps show that they can work. However, because the dev teams are so small and money is so tight, these ports suffer from exactly what you're talking about: Bare minimum effort in making the transition or customizing for ipad. Poor tutorials. No Retina or hi-rez graphics. Removed camera controls (which goes hand in hand with customizing it for ipad). This really sucks because the games that the devs take TIME to make work for the iPAD are SICK.

Land Air Sea Warfare, A Bard's Tale, and Dangerous come to mind....

I spent like 4 hours straight last night playing Heroes vs Monsters, just to repeat, everyone should get it, especially because it's free atm. It's a great little action rpg in battleheart style, a lot of fun and the bosses are quite challenging too. And the skills and gameplay is just a lot of fun, with a motivating loot system (Survival mode gives OP loot, haven't gotten that good boss-loot, most good stuff is from the store (ingame-currency) or survival mode)

IAP is purely to speed things up if you want since it's just gold. It's perfect for a free game, really. GET IT. :p

Happy to report that Gunman Clive not only looks great but also controls and plays great as well. This is a solid game and I hope the developer does well.

It seemed way too grind-heavy and light on the loot when I played it but I'll give it another chance after reading this. Had no idea about the survival-mode.

Bought Gunman Clive. I like it. Feels like megaman, haha.

I do want to play it with a d-pad now though. Might double dip later on on the PC version.

With 774 Deaths now on iOS, hopefully it'll do well enough for Square Enix to bring the other games related to it on iOS since maybe they'll have a chance.

For those wondering: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanashi_no_Game

Given how the other games actually use the DS's two screens I don't think so, unless they went all Another Code R and actually split your iOS device's screen in two, but if 774 Deaths performs well, I hope they translate this for the world: http://itunes.apple.com/jp/app/id485556757?mt=8

How many classes are there in the game?

Any good shmups for iPad?

Well, if you like shmups the iPad is the best current-gen platform out there together with a japanese X360, thanks to Cave.

Anyway, I think you have 'em all by now so I'm gonna say Dariust Burst. It was originally a PSP game.

If you play or are interested in playing or finding out about iOS board games (Carcassonne, Ascension, Ticket to Ride, & many more) and card games (Assassin's Creed: Recollection, Shadow Era TCG) with a hyperactive GAF community, come join us in the iOS Online Boardgaming Megathread. Thread hasn't been up for even a day yet and we've got a ton of active players listed on the spreadsheet, as well as active community discussion. So yeah. :D

I've put this in the OP.

AC:R is free now.

I'd say it needs more love and players, but I haven't even ventured into the multiplayer yet, I'm just grinding out the single player challenges so far and loving it.

Then why ain't more people playing it on the spreadsheet???????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on people!

Buying them up and playin' them exclusively on the iPad3.

Yay or nay?

Biggest concerns are performance and UI.

BTTF ep1 is/was free the other day, I played it for about an hour on my new 3rd gen ipad and I have to say, low frame rates and a really blocky resolution, feels lower then default ipad 2 res somehow.

Anyone know how to form a tribe/how to deal with the quests in "King of Dragon Pass". Waited forever for a sale but finally bit. Problem is I love 95% of the game. Passing/failing the quests seem random/super punitive. Also no idea how to form the tribe despite reading the whole gigantic manual.

Hey Guys and Gals,

Tonight my company is releasing Amoebattle, an RTS game on iOS.

Looks nice. I particularly like the gentle vibe prevalent in the video. Too often strategy games are dark, violent and filled with explosions. It's nice to see "happy" takes on the genre like this.

I just checked your website and learned that it was out for DS as well. Is the iOS version different from the DS one?

The iOS version has overhauled UI and graphics, in addition to other staple iOS features, to create a real iOS experience. I believe the DSIware is pending in Nintendo lockcheck.

Operation Eradicate (aka iOS version of the boardgame pandemic) is on sale! 1.99 instead of 3.99 :)

So far I've got:
Game Dev Story (Don't care for it)
Dungeon Raid (Pretty Fun)
Mage Gauntlet (Great)
Tetris (Fun, but I have no idea why I bought it)
Infinity Blade (Not what I expected it to be, pretty "meh," but it was on sale)
Angry Birds Space (It's okay)
Draw Something (It's okay)
SimCity DLC (Not bad)
Starbase Orion (Not bad, haven't played it much yet)

Are there any "must have" games I'm missing? (Love RPGs if that helps)

Probably should grab Chaos Rings.

I just got it yesterday myself. Still learning the ropes but seems fun :D And there's like 15 people on the spreadsheet with it!

Gunman Clive delivers: I'm impressed how tight and fluid the platforming is considering its use of an on-screen control pad.

The sketchbook art style and music create a unique Old West theme, and it doesn't miss a frame at 60 Hz on my iPad 2 even at the highest graphics settings.

I've heard Chrono Trigger controls like ass, though. :\

But the rest of these are pretty much "YES"

Controls are pretty similar to other iOS games, I think.
Also, Song Summoner Encore is a pretty nice SRPG, if a bit too easy.
Besides SE's games there's a bunch of other RPGs but I'm not too familiar with them.
