Yeah, kinda forgot that they teased for a while.
Half-Life 2 got that reaction. Maybe they have a new engine to make that kind of leap again... maybe.
Valve have been working on overhauling Source for a long time now, though all we know is that they're greatly improving content creation/pipeline tools and - finally - data streaming is in. Makes sense for Half-Life 3 to mark its debut.
Edit: On the subject of Source upgrades, the new shaders in CS:GO are fantastic.
Please be true - I couldn't take much more of Portal 2 constant loading.

I'm still hoping for Mirror's Edge 2 or God of War IV, but it is most likely Halo 4. Which I don't really mind, but I prefer it when the cover is a previously unannounced game.

That was more or less confirmed by Valve themselves. They are done with the episodic release cycles. Next Half-life will be most certainly be HL3.
edit: wow, this truly did become a HL3 thread after all, and I'm not helping
