Game Informer May 2012 Cover revealed: Halo 4

For those who think Reach is nothing special graphically, please name 10 console FPS that look dramatically better. Yes, I'm asking for a list war for the sake of clarity.

Gonna be hard, since it is indeed one of the best looking fps on console.

I can only think of Killzone 2 and killzone 3, that are looking better.

Bulletstorm
Crysis 2
Resistance 3
Killzone 2 and 3

I got 5 knocked out pretty much immediately. Someone with a better memory than me can probably fill it out more.

Really interesting that GI only mentions multiplayer, seems like MS really is keeping SP under wraps until E3.

Which is good. Bungie had a really bad problem with that by spoiling most of the locations before the game comes out and then we have that EGM (I think it was EGM) issue where they talked about a mission that was cut from the game.

Bungie couldn't keep their mouth shut but 343i can. Also speaking of Bungie keeping their mouth shut I want to see Destiny soon!

Cortana's tits!

they don't look as firm as they used to.

I agree with you on the others, but Bulletstorm? edit: lol got to be kidding me, wwm0nkey

This will be the first Game Informer issue I've ever purchased. When does it hit newstands?

What kind of bullshit argument is this? I can post screengrabs right now that show how poor the game looks in a still frame, but I won't. You know how the game looks.

Also, Killzone series, Battlefield series, Gears of War series, Bioshock series, Resistance 3, Uncharted 2/3, Unreal 3, Bulletstorm, etcetera. There's countless games that actually push graphics forward with each iteration. Halo (so far) has not really been one of those.

Let's hope Halo 4 does things right on that front.

Can you give me some Reach screencaptures that show off it's graphical fidelity? Because I have the game in my system right now, and well, it's not really a looker.

And please, try not to use theater mode screens.
No, I won't bother. If you played the game you know what it looks like.
You're kidding right? My uncle has that game and i played it, its medicore in grfx. Plz show me parts of the game where it isnt medicore in grfx and i will back off. Its a good game though and im not even a FPS fan im just speaking gfx specifically. Oh, it takes someone voicing their opinion that you dont like to ignore them?
That person repeatedly states his opinions in threads he should not be interested in in a highly provocative style to stir up some noise.

Reach does some extremely impressive things with the 360 hardware.

Exactly. Now let's all refrain from acting like Reach was some kind of technological showpiece.
Great game, but with middling visuals.

I am not discounting Halo's impressive scale and AI and physics, or anything like that, just the visuals here. I know Halo does a lot of these things extremely well.

Metro 2033? Though i played it on PC, maybe it looks like shit on 360.

That's another good one, but yes I too cannot say how good it looks on 360.

Also wtf at people saying Bulletstorm doesn't look that good, yet Halo does. Bulletstorm looks a shit ton better, and that's excluding the PC version. Also bringing up Halo AI is getting off the subject of his question, he just asked which games look better.

I am hoping this issue has more info on the armor system and how it effects gameplay, right now that is my one concern with Halo 4 but I dont think they could do worse than AA's in Reach.

and none of these games does what halo does (huge levels, vehicles, 4p coop, fantastic ai, forge...). i really hope they dont turn h4 into a scripted corridor shooter just to make it better looking.

Holy fuck.

Bulletstorm and Resistance 3?

I loved/liked each respectively - but Reach is well ahead of those two.

Reach looks amazing - it only begins to look inferior visually when compared to the likes of Crysis/Killzone - and not coincidentally both of these games are super linear scripted experiences that share much in common with the COD formula.

I don't doubt there are games that look better than Reach, and I don't think you'll find many people saying that it looks the best - but the notion that Reach was disappointing visually is a joke.

On topic - looking forward to the MP details most of all - mostly because I know there will be nothing of too much importance in the reveal, least of all campaign/story details. Hands on impressions with new MP design is making me sweat with anticipation.

Bulletstorm? That's arguable.

The other 4 I agree.

Still, that's 4....

Definitely, and I'd say it compares favorably. Actually Bulletstorm has the most in common with Halo in that it isn't really about looking extremely technically impressive but instead both games mix art style with nice vistas and color palette to make them stand out.

That wasn't the question. Let's stop moving the goalposts, shall we?

Well Battlefield 3's MP mode does the first 2 :)

R3 sp and story telling>> reach, easily

I'm asking for games that look better than Reach, no bullshit about it. If Reach's graphics are nothing special, it stands to reason that it shouldn't even be in the top 10 for console shooters, considering we've had well over a hundred released this generation. Since I disagree with the assertion that Reach has bad graphics, I just wanted to see what games people considered having good graphics. Thanks for the examples.

That wasn't the question. Let's stop moving the goalposts, shall we?

Do you not consider scale or number of independent enemy AI units a particularly impressive graphical feat? This could be where the divide is coming from; I usually tend to lean towards games like Assassin's Creed, Battlefield multiplayer, Crysis 1, and RDR/GTA as some of the more graphically impressive games over corridor games or games with limited scope.

This will be my first game informer issue, it seems. Hopefully I can actually find a place that sells them around here.

Honestly, this. The problems with Reach graphically were the ghosting, LOD problems and framerate but overall, the game looked great.. There were plenty of times in the campaign that I was impressed by the graphics themselves, not to mention the usual Halo things (scale, A.I).
