This. People need to keep their hype down and keep expectations in check. This happesn ALL THE TIME in any magazine or exclusive online reveal. The magazine and website try to hype it but its the peoples fault for falling for that hype.
Why can't people appreciate a good game? Why must there be constant hate?
I love artwork covers! Can't wait for the infos.

Reach wasn't exactly strong in the story telling department - most would agree I imagine. I'm not sure I would put R3's SP ahead of Reach though.

I don't want to get into this, but I just want to comment on game: Resistance 3. That game is really, really blurry. The only standout part about it is the lighting which is utterly fantastic. That's not to say it's bad or anything (other than it's really blurry), but it does what it needs to do.
No, actually, I think "hate" is probably the most accurate word to describe this situation. We've had barely ANY footage of the game and now we're getting coverage on it. Responses like "UGGGHH HALO?!" or "OH GREAT JUST WHAT WE NEED ANOTHER HALO GAME" do not warrant any kind of logical excuse for that.

Who cares if consoles are maxed out and other games already look better than Halo? If you're a fan of Halo, Halo looking better than it ever has is only a good thing. Halo certainly hasn't maxed out. It's like the Zelda Wii U demo... is that the best looking thing ever? No, but it's fucking Zelda. It's jawdropping because its the best looking Zelda has ever looked, which is exciting as a fan. If you're not a fan of Halo, then 4 was never going to blow you away. Not this generation.
Complaining about a game getting a cover is really absurd. Step back and actually look at the comments and you will see why it's absurd.
Complaining about everything else, like ugly cover, is not frowned upon.
In terms of gameplay, it was a huge step down from Halo 3. In terms of visuals, it did look fantastic. And just because some 5 games look better (or 10 or 20, doesn't matter), doesn't make Reach look "extremely mediocre at best". That's just idiotic GAF hyperbole at its worst.
Here's some nice video reel showcasing Reach visuals made by Bungie. It has some obvious shortcomings, but I think overall it looks great.

There will always be haters for every product for every medium.
I've never played a Halo game, so this reveal isn't too interesting for me, but some seem to be getting truly angry at this cover. That I don't understand.

How could anyone really expect anything other than Halo 4 for this cover reveal though? Seems like they set themselves up for disappointment.
I am not going to lie I am a Halo fan and I have read all the books and played all the games but I do not mind if people hate on Halo as some people just simply do not enjoy the game any more.
The problem here though is that there was evidence to support Halo 4 was the cover story. We also had that OXM UK "Killer Reboot" thing a few weeks ago that turned out to be Assassins Creed 3 and before that we have had A LOT of other BS magazine hype builds. People need to kill their hype and keep expectations in check or else every magazine thread will turn out like this.
I know the South Park reveal thread was met with a lot of WTF!? as well.
Then don't put focus on it? What use is it to come in the thread then?
Vague information about a game that looks good is enough to me.

The rest of the games sure but Crysis 2's levels are just as big, if not bigger, than Halo: Reach's.
I don't hate halo. I may not really like the series but I did kind of like Reach (even if it was just meh looking). I'm just pointing out this is what journalists do every time with a Halo game, and every time they end up being wrong.
Also due to each Halo game definitely not looking anywhere near jaw dropping, when I read GI's quote I was thinking of a few other likely games instead.
That's a dumb question to begin with so it should not really surprise you that people jump on you.
Uhm, no. Crysis 2 has clever design to make it feel big, but Reach has still bigger levels.

and crysis 2 runs like shit on consoles. great geaphics are useless if the game runs at sub 30 fps (which reach does in one level).
They wanted to see the unlikely reveal of a sequel of their favorite franchise and are mad that it's Halo 4 instead.

Well I will start off by saying, I wish Halo would have died with Bungie. I am happy they didn't stop at Halo 3 because I loved that ODST. At this point, Halo 3: ODST trumps Halo: Combat Evolved as my favorite Halo game. Dat moody-ness, and dat soundtrack in ODST... love it!
Anyway, I feel like 343 is just not going to live up to Bungie status as far as how bungie basically set the groundwork for Xbox Live with their amazing multiplayer setup in Halo 2, refined gameplay, and even reach I felt like I liked more than Halo 3, which was supposed to be the last game. I will probably buy just to see it, but without Marty O'Donnell and company, I feel like the games are not going to be as strong. Halo for me has been like 40 to 50 percent soundtracks.

The fight with the Covenant has ended so in Halo 3 you did finish the fight against them but we still have the following to worry about.

I think that is the single most boring cover in the history of magazines.
What with everyone groaning and complaining as if it's gaming journalism heresy, there sure doesn't seem to be much of a difference in this context.

A good enough reason to not undoubtedly think it was Halo 4.
