Game Informer May 2012 Cover revealed: Halo 4

Well for the 4th game in the series they could have gone a lot more overboard.

Cortana's tits didn't strike me as a big deal. The design looks fine. I just want to see some actual screens.

Mother of tits

Cortana....damn! And c'mon peeps it's only a G.I cover of Halo 4 stop hating it, maybe Halo 4's gfx will be impressive this time round? Wait for the scans then start bitching about it man.

There are a few in-engine shots of the campaign. They looked pretty impressive to me.

To express your disappointment? It's pretty common on forums, why is this a problem I can't figure out.
Seems like a waste of your and everybody else time. Are you really suprised that a well selling franchise is getting another installment? Really?

I pretty much stopped buying COD, yet you don't see me complaining in those threads do you?

No, actually, I think "hate" is probably the most accurate word to describe this situation. We've had barely ANY footage of the game and now we're getting coverage on it. Responses like "UGGGHH HALO?!" or "OH GREAT JUST WHAT WE NEED ANOTHER HALO GAME" do not warrant any kind of logical excuse for that.

I sort of agree with what you are saying, but there has already been 5 Halo games (1,2,3, odst, reach), so although there hasn't been that much footage and it is by a new studio, we all know more or less what the game is going to be like. Art direction hasn't really changed (except maybe Cortana's breasts), gameplay has improved but not drastically changed (of course, there is no need to drastically change the gameplay), etc.

I have always been interested in this franchise, but I have only played Halo 1, the other games never appealed to me for some reason, so I am curious to see what Halo 4 will be like, but I would have rather seen something of an old franchise, newly established franchise, or a new game that has no footage at all (ie, Agent).

The last Halo game wasn't that long ago, whereas there are other franchises that haven't seen a new release in a really long time, or their previous release(s) was somewhat of a disappointment (ie Splinter Cell).

A good enough reason to not undoubtedly think it was Halo 4.

Ohhh, so it was a subtle shot at Halo's visuals?

I can't say I follow the reveals/covers thing too much - but we've seen some brief footage of Halo 4 and some of the footage of the Chief (which I am sure was carefully crafted and released) looked stunning. Seems 343i is going to push visuals more this time round. Should be interesting to see what, if anything, is sacrificed (scope, vistas, skybox etc) to make the next Halo look better than Reach.

The fuck are you talking about everyone knew from E3 Halo was getting another installment. People are surprised that it's on this months dcover though, some excited, some disappointed. If your excited why don't you just go be excited and stop worrying what the disappointed people post, no one is telling you not to.
I feel like 50% of their graphics work goes into their skyboxes.

And they are pretty amazing, it's the main thing I like about Halo's visuals.

I don't hate halo. I may not really like the series but I did kind of like Reach (even if it was just meh looking). I'm just pointing out this is what journalists do every time with a Halo game, and every time they end up being wrong.

Also due to each Halo game definitely not looking anywhere near jaw dropping, when I read GI's quote I was thinking of a few other likely games instead.

So you're saying Halo 4 didn't look graphically impressive on a 7 year old console? I don't know why people were expecting something else when it was all pointing to a Halo 4 reveal. Plus i'm sure publishers and developers are saving their next huge reveals for E3, just saying.

Ok, If you didn't want a discussion then you should have not started it. Being rude is just wrong.

Has nothing to do with pixel counting. That game looked like ass outside of its lighting. Jaggies everywhere, low-res textures and yes, even the low resolution.

We could go back and forth for years about how I think it looks great and you don't. Let's not bother. I have no idea how anybody could look at Halo 3 in general and honestly think it looks "like ass." From my point of view it smells like typical "This franchise is too big for its britches, needs to be taken down a peg" b.s. Holding it to impossibly high standards.

Thats just your opinion dude. There are millions of Halo fans that think the games look great and i'm sure some journalists too. Is that to hard to understand? And your list is an absolute joke. Not one of those games do what a Halo game does(4 player online campaign co-op, Huge sandbox areas, vehicles, great AI, more enemies onscreen). All of those things take processing power my friend.

That sort of bugs me. Half the fun of Halo was beating up Grunts and panicking when Hunters appeared. The enemies played a big part in the awesome of Halo, so I'm genuinely worried about the lack of those enemies now.

Well no I didn't say this one doesn't look impressive yet, I haven't seen too much to make that call. I'm only saying that if it does turn out to look impressive it will be the first current gen Halo game to actually back up what all of the journalists say in their PR/Hype modes.

And let me just say I don't buy into that "7 year old console" statement. That's what people use as a crutch for mediocre looking games. There's still plenty of really impressive looking console games.

Now I know how the Nintendo kids feel when their threads are flooded with trolls.

Hope they added wind/dirt effects like in Killzone 2. it really adds to the immersion.
That sounds nice. Awesome avatar, btw.

Have you even played Halo 3? It's the definitive "looks like ass" game. Jaggies everywhere in the sub HD mess. Shame they didn't use any MLAA or FXAA. That was Bungie's downfall. A real shame. I couldn't play the game because of how bad it looked. No thanks Bungie, I'll stick to KZ2, KZ3

I wish game informer would go away. So pointless. Each year they get worse and worse. This isn't even a reveal, it's something we all knew was coming, and the viddoc by 343 probably has more info on the game then what these guys will have.

I've only played Halo 3 SP campaign about 20 times. Most of those on a 42" Bravia. How many times should I play it in order to see it your way?

Huh, I like their new direction. The covers have been fantastic.

It's 14 pages. I'm sure that'll be enough info to tide over Halo fans before another vidoc comes out.

Is that concept art? Doesn't look like a screen.

Love the new style though. Halo4 has a chance to redeem the franchise (for me) this generation.

Do you expect every single month's issue to be a reveal of a brand new never-before seen (or leaked) game?

Lets hope GI is right on this one. Disappointing it's Halo 4 though, sort of hoped it would be a new reveal of some kind or at least something we hadn't seen before.
