Halo: Combat Evolved was extremely impressive when it came out and was a testament to their technical prowess at the time. Halo 2 had some severe texture pop-in issues, but was otherwise a nice looking game. The PC version really shows how good looking it is. And you're right, aside from some ghosting and framerate issues, Reach looks good. But Halo 3 just seemed like they put all of their expertise into the lighting and half-assed the rest of it.
 
The only things truly bad about Halo 3 were the humans. Everything else looked pretty good, and I prefer the look.the Covenant had it it over what they looked like in Reach. Brutes especially.
 
It's funny how people can have such wildly different reactions to the same information.

When I look at Halo 3, it's simply the only way my brain can parse it. "How could anybody look at this and say it looks bad? Especially compared to all of the other games out there?"

Same here.

Sure, it had its good share of jaggies. Poor looking NPCs and decent animations.

None of that took away from the fantastic particle effects, the gorgeous water effects, the gigantic scale of the levels, the beautiful skyboxes, amazing lighting and great looking enemies, etc. Just eye candy overall.

Yeah, I don't know why Bungie changed them. Their evolution from H2 to H3 was good and I would have liked to see them expand their species more, but I also would have been content with better looking H3 Brutes.

Different standards. Wouldn't mind Microsoft releasing Halo 3 on PC. With some upgraded textures, a decent resolution and AA cranked up, it could look like a decent game.

EDIT: Brutes served their purpose in Reach. It wouldn't make sense for them to have all of the armor and technology from Halo 3 since most of that was after they took over as protectors of the Prophets. They were shock troopers in Reach and it worked for the most part.

I don't like Halo or first person shooters, but it's a big franchise so I don't see how this can be a letdown reveal. For some reason all these reveal Twitter hints get posted and hyped up, and it's a person's own fault if they are disappointed for whatever reason. Unless you're like 12 and haven't followed videogames for more than 3 months, there's no excuse to be disappointed or bitch about it.

Not going to happen sadly. Would be awesome to get Halo 3, ODST and Reach on PC but Halo 2 failed badly (mostly due to GFWL, awful KB+M support and lack of custom options) so I doubt we will see Halo 3 PC until there is a HD remake anyways :/

I don’t think anybody is going to call you a fanboy is because you actually discussed the problems, but you also have to respect that people might not agree with you. There are actually multiple groups: trolls (fun bait and switch tactic), objectors (those who have played it, might have liked it, but have problems with it) and defenders (fans, all kind of forms, know what was wrong and good). IMO if you start a decent discussion, people will discuss it with you. Trust me, people will.

The thing about this thread is that people are so furious about Halo 4 getting the cover, which is absurd. Would the same reaction be if it was their favorite franchise? I doubt that. Also the defense of franchise fatigue is unwarranted in this thread, you see that it says “Halo 4” so why even enter? Furthermore this has been discussed to death in threads before, just to rehash it for this thread seems counterproductive. Nothing is being talked about Halo 4, it’s the same old rehashed discussion we have had earlier.

Halo 2's issue was they forced DX10 on it and made it Vista only when the OS had just come out. Halo isn't a series that's going to push hardware on the PC side. Microsoft were fools for attempting that. I would imagine both games would come to the system eventually, but that was before both Gears 2 and 3 were completely confirmed to never go PC side. It's a shame because there is potential.

I game on just about every system available. I didn't get back into PC gaming until 2009. So even before that, I knew Halo 3 had serious technical issues.
 
I bet the article STILL won't divulge who we'll be fighting in Halo 4.

Do you think they'll really wait til E3 to reveal that we'll be fighting
the forerunner?

Have always been completely baffled over the popularity of the Halo franchise. I got the original Xbox quite late in its life cycle, with a copy of the super-revered first game and Fahrenheit to introduce me to my new console. By the end of Halo, I was supremely underwhelmed by what I had played and still to this day am bewildered by the hype it got. I think my most damning feeling towards it was that it had no sense of identity to call its own. I'd use the word 'generic', but that feels be an understatement.

Mind you, I never played 2, 3 or Reach, so maybe the series got better?
 
I loved playing through the Halo Reach SP. But I just can't get into the whole environment and atmosphere of the Halo series, there's just something about it that doesn't draw me in. I would like a grittier version of Halo, I think I could get into it then.
