Received a ton of iTunes gift cards for Easter gifts. Went on a shopping spree. Picked up

Deathsmiles
DoDonPachi Blissful Death
Bug princess
Bug princess 2
Beat sneak bandit
Clear vision
Ghost trick

All the kairosft games
Edo town
Hot spring stories (already owned)
Mega mall story
PL story
GP story (already owned)
Epic astro story
Game dev story (already Owend, and played the hell out of it)
Venture towns
Pocket academy

Which kairosoft game should I jump into first, I find with these games is that I'll play them nonstop for a week and then rarely touch them again. But in that week I put hours and hours into them.

And what do you guys think of all my purchases, I'm really enjoying the cave shumps alot. Never thought I would enjoy them as I do.

I got chocolate eggs.

If you've already got all the Kairosoft stuff, just play any of them. There's no point playing them in order of how good they are or you're just going to play the good ones first and then have a bunch you don't really want to play sitting there doing nothing. Go in blind, choose at random.

Came across this game Hack Run ... probably somewhat limited appeal.
It is totally text based and you use DOS type commands to "hack" through various systems to work through the story.

It's kind of a puzzle/mystery/text adventure kinda thing.

Little hard to describe .... supposed to be pretty short and you have to be online to play.
But if a text based lite hacker sim sounds fun check it out.

It's FREE at the moment, so what the hell.

Hack Run
Hack your way into the heart of a mysterious organization to uncover their secrets. Hack RUN is a game which uses 'old school' command prompts (like DOS or UNIX) that simulate a real operating system. Learn the commands of each system to help you navigate through your adventure.

As you hack into their systems, you will learn about the organization and the people who work there. Read files and emails to find clues and riddles which will give you access to more accounts. Data found on their systems will help you learn about the motives of the organization, and how dark their plans can get. You may also discover dirty little secrets about the employees as well.

Note: this app requires an internet connection to access all components of the game.

I'd like a good iOS clone of Donkey Kong '94. I wouldn't be surprised if there already was one because it fits into the common iOS game design scheme of endless bite-sized challenge levels.

Damn, I know they're hurting for money, but just no...sell me a new ship/ mode, but cheats? Sounds like a bad joke.
Yeah that's just weird, hopefully the cheats only apply to the "custom edit" mode like Deathsmiles' smartphone mode. Maybe they're making a lot on that IAP and exploiting it rather than really needing to.

The evasion support and mobility delay sound nice, latter would at least make it feel more like the original and should be available in the other games as well (although I guess it'd be a speed up for some Mushi 2 combinations).

Is there anything majorly different in the second loop of DOJ other than the last boss? Like do the mechanics change up or is it just more bullets?

Picked up a bunch of the the Cave games this weekend and having a blast with them:

Bug Princess 1 and 2 and DoDon Blissful. I really want to take the plunge on Espgaluda 2 HD but it says it only supports ipad 2? Can anyone confirm it works on the 4s? The lite version worked on the 4s.

Sounds cool. Thanks for the heads up.

If it's universal, it should work on the 4S. It was not universal at release-time and maybe they haven't updated their website since.

Yeah they just haven't updated stuff here and there, the HD games got updated to universal a few weeks back when DDP:R HD came out iirc. If you want to be sure just try out the lite versions first.

Just got the new ipad yesterday, first ios gadget since iphone 3g.. Looking forward to diving into a few games, sifting through 180+ pages is a bit daunting though

Grabatron is seriously fun. Got it when it was free, dunno if it still is, but it's a good time waster/procrastination promoter.

This. Pinball HD and War Pinball HD are simply spectacular, especially on an iPad.
They're also obsolette with the Collection that includes tables from both as IAP when they could still patch issues out in those two (like one of them, probably War, still doesn't have landscape mode menus iirc). Like they couldn't just give us an upgrade to the Collection with just the tables we already have bought... Or like a new app was needed at all, HD (maybe War too) already had the same functionality of getting more IAP tables...

Are there any kind hearted nostalgic RPGs for iPad? Most of the ones I see all seem like generic knockoffs. I want something with atmosphere that will make me miss girls I used to love.

Saturday Morning RPG seems custom designed to push those nostalgia buttons. Well, either that or Chrono Trigger obviously. You might be into something though, I thing the NRPG could be a big genre...

On another topic, this thread has become lousy with kairosoft and cave talk, it seems they're all that comes up these past few months and man is it getting boring. How about somebody sets up some OTs for them so you lot can do the whole hye cycle in a closed off environment. Tbh, I know I can be a crotchety old man about these things, but it's pretty much killing off discussion of other, smaller games, as well as being repetitive to read.

Great though they may be, there's not that much to be said about a shmup or a menu-based stat game.

Anyway, just IMO, but I wonder if anyone else is feeling the same?

I love it when you're crotchety, Jedeye. Talk to me about Gameloft...

(A catch-all OT for the Cave stuff would be cool though. I like to pretend I understand the scoring systems but I really don't).

There is already a dedicated Cave thread, though it's a catch all for all Cave games regardless of platform

I don't see the problem with it in this thread

That wasn't the point.

Actually, it was. Someone asked for Professor Layton on iOS, and I merely suggested that the license was probably owned at least in part by Nintendo. The game he/she was referring to seems to confirm that Level-5 doesn't have full access to the license. The game seems like an offshoot, rather than a full fledged PL game. I'm not knocking it. I was just pointing that out.

Well I mean, a heads up to say a game is out is one thing and is more than fine, but it's the constant repetition of "game x is on sale now" "what is the best cave/kairo game?", "how do the HD versions work?" "why are there 8 versions of every cave game?" etc and then you get a new game released and then you get three pages of people saying they're buying it (with not much else beyond it).

And the trouble is, when a small game releases in this froth of activity, it's lost in the sea of posts and never heard from again.

As I say, it's great that people like these games, and they obviously have large communities that have grown up around them. So I simply suggest that they leave the megathread nest and head off into the world of GAF where they can flourish and gain new members even.

Also, I am far too chill to be raging on Gameloft today. Ask me by the end of the week :P

The thing I like about gaf is that the small games actually have a chance here. If it's good enough someone will bring it up again. I have found countless gems thanks to gaf.

Anyone know why Dark Meadow: The Pact says "DO NOT UPDATE THIS GAME" with the new update. Im on a new iPad.

Version 1.1 had a glitch in it which made it run at non-retina resolution on those devices. Update 1.1.1 fixed that which was released April 9th.

You should be able to ask your questions in this thread, there are a lot of cool folks over there, I seem to remember seeing a short discussion of scoring mechanics in Bug Princess (1 or 2, don't recall) recently.

Edit: I see Wario64 made mention of it but didn't link it. enjoy. :)

Jedeye is just salty we arent talking about ORIGINAL REFRESHING EXPERIENCES ON iOS

Nah, it's more like I'm bored of people hyping THE SAME FUCKING ORIGINAL REFRESHING EXPERIENCES OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN :P

But as I say, it aint the end of the world or nuffin, and it's not like it's actually offensive to my sense of taste like at other times. I just think it's time for certain sub-communities to spread their wings and go it by themselves since a critical mass of players have emerged. Much like the boardgame folks, who I'm very happy to see moved over to their little area so I don't have to read the endless carc recommendations as much...

but yeah, I'm a whiny bitch :P

Been playing a ton of Beat Sneak Bandit over the weekend, godamn that final boss was a total bitch. I like a bit of pattern recognition just fine, but 8 sequences was just a bit long! I must have spent an hour dying repeatedly, but I came back to it later after I'd been out drinking and did it first time. I was very proud of myself.

Also jumped back on that Llamasoft bandwagon with FiveAday. It might be my least favourite minter release so far, but it's still fairly fun. I think the games run a bit long though, I was just dicking around on it last night and lasted 30 mins without much trouble. Which means when i get good I could be there for some time...

Just reading through this thread, seeing a lot of Carcassonne love - is that the game where you place tiles (with roads?) and then little silhouettes of men everywhere? Tempted to give it another go, played it a couple of years ago and found it really dull ;_;
