Why aren't people just getting it from the gw2 website? I'm getting paranoid at these amazon/gamefly/gamestop/bb posts...feeling like I made a wrong decision somehow

retailers are cheaper?
its a 10€ difference between gamesload and official gw2 store ..

So my gamestop said they aren't doing pre-purchase boxes, you just pay it off and they print the beta code on your receipt...?

There literally is no difference between preordering and purchasing from them other than that. I wanted my dvd case :(

probably because is 10-15 dollar cheaper and also because we can use the credits we have to pay for the game

So what's the verdict here? I'm on the fence on this pre-purchase page. Is the beta a total fucking mess or is it pretty playable, and does ANYBODY know even a vague amount of these beta weekends? One a month I imagine?

I did, even paid a bit more for it just to make sure I wasn't left out of the Beta when everyone else got to play.

I suppose that's fair, eveything's straight from anet/ncsoft that way. And I guess parting with a few more dollars to support the game is not 100% terrible.

The first beta dates are either next weekend or the weekend after that. Close enough to being announced, I'd say.

No, it's more likely that the beta will either be the 19-22 block or the 26-28. They've said end of April, and they want enough time to solidify how they'll handle what should be a population several times larger than anything they've loaded the servers with yet.

Personally I'm hoping for the very end of April as I've got a 70th birthday weekend party thing to attend, but with my luck it may hit just a bit earlier than that.

I'll just wait for an official list of dates or something, unless it's possible for the to run out of beta keys.

Release date rumors seem to be converging on summer, and ArenaNet generally doesn't do long public betas, so... 2-5?

Yeah, that's what I meant. Slight ambiguity in the phrase "next weekend" on my part.

My Best Buy seems to have no idea what they're doing with the pre-purchasing, and they weren't even aware they could do collectors editions. And Best Buy's website has absolutely no mention of pre-purchase altogether.

This is a fucking disaster of epic proportions, why didn't they just do normal pre-order shit? What a mess. I can't wait until people who only pre-ordered the game don't get beta keys, thinking they would. The impending rage will be interesting to watch.

From what we know, if Bestbuy/Gamestop has no idea what's going on, there's simply a delay in communication from corporate down the chain. Combine that with generally stupid employees and it's hard to get anything done from a physical copy perspective. Why do you think I haven't bought a physical copy of a PC game outside of WoW expansions or MMO CEs since 06?

EB Games in Canada had a placeholder for the GW2 CE ($69.99 haha). I pre-ordered that a few months ago so I wonder if it'll get transferred to an actual pre-order.

You're going to want to go to your store today and get that sorted out, you'll be able to pick up your CE, but you won't get into any betas/headstart and you'll have to pay the rest of the fee come launch.

Kill Ten Rats has a new article up about the pre-purchase. Included at the end is a link to a PDF from Daewoo Securities. Apparently they're predicting GW2 to sell over 3 million in 2012 alone. He also ends the article with this;

Kill Ten Rats said:
Something big is happening, and I am glad I am on board.

Awww yeah. Here we go.

Bugger. Sorry for the Double Post, folks.

Grain of salt. I WILL REPEAT ONCE MORE! Grain of salt, got it?

Thank you Google Translate:

"Guild Wars 2" is seen as potentially one of the highlights of the role-playing year. After a long silence in this regard, there is now a first tangible indication arrives. Thus, the title comes sooner than expected.

Until now only identified as that would appear to "Guild Wars 2" this year. According to Amazon MMORPG from 30 Be available in June, which would mean that the publication would take place earlier than predicted by pessimists last.

Even if it is at Amazon for a solid source remains to be seen whether the leaders will follow in the coming days with an official announcement. Stand firm therefore currently only does the first half of 2012 is ready to hold first open beta testing phase to "Guild Wars 2."

I'm honestly expecting an August release. If it is any sooner, then great. If it's in September? No major loss.

So some updates on my adventures in buying the CE.

If you purchase the CE from a physical store, your game code is printed out on the receipt at the time of purchase on the bottom, if its not make sure it is before you leave the store as the clerk should have charged you the full $150 purchase price and not just a $5 pre-order price.

If you purchase from the gamestop.com option, for some reason it does not charge you and it is listed as a pre-order, not pre-purchase. However, a few hours later you will receive a code in whatever email you used to buy it that will allow you to register the game. According to the rep at GameStop support, once you enter the code you can no longer return the game or cancel your pre-purchase.

I ordered the CE this morning around 9 am CST, and the email showed up about 3pm.

Hope this helps clear up some confusion for anyone.

Prepurchased the standard digital edition :)
Couldn't justify the $20 for the DD, and I always bought the standard versions of all the GW1 games and it turned out just fine. Very excited!

Well I have to wait until thursday to go down n fully pay off my copy. Grats to all who got theirs in today. :)

Tdlr: I'm broke til payday

That was annoying. Called back GS and got them to read the pre-purchase code to me over the phone then I had trouble registering my GW1 account because it didn't recognize my email. Didn't realize I had to use my "@NCSoft" handle.

At least it's over now and I'm all set for the GW2 beta and 3-day headstart!

Woah woah woah hold the phone here...in that Game Informer podcast one guy said "When I was playing a Sylvari..." LOLWUT? Did the press get to play Sylvari/Asura, but they just couldn't talk about it?
