Except for Metro Last Light, I'm pretty sure there are zero impressive PC games being released in the next while/years. Looks like we'll have to wait for next gen to push graphics forward.
Finally arrived from Amazon!
A bit of buyers remorse setting in, I can't think of any hardware demanding PC games coming out in the next year to justify the cost of it :/
For those of you who are buying from Amazon, how much are you paying? The only options that I have seen are from 3rd parties who are charging $600. Am I missing something?
I paid $509 for mine, directly from Amazon.
HehI fixed that package:

Hopefully this month, but that's just a guess. When though??

I hate all of you that have one. I got auto notified that Newegg had the EVGA Super Clocked version
Hi. When you say "Super Clocked" version, does that mean when you buy the card it will come already overclocked and we don't have to do anything further? If so, what is the frequency they overclock it to?
Wow the GTX 680 is monstrous. Unbelievably fast and it's solved quite a few of my issues that I had with SLI (stuttering in Firefall pre-beta, for example). It's also putting out FAR less heat... it's only hitting 70c at 1.25 Ghz/7 Ghz RAM. Dayum.
Now to get a 2nd one.
I'm considering getting a 2nd one also, but it doesn't like SLI performance is up to par yet. Maybe once new drivers come out, SLI performance will be improved. I'm most impressed with how damn quiet the card is. Far cry from my loud 6970's.
Agreed. It is far, far quieter than my 570's, which were noisy and comparison. Especially both of them going at once... they sounded like little turbos spooling up, lol.
Later this year. When will the 580 equivalent be coming out?
So once the rest of this line is released, will the 680 be the successor/equivalent to the 570? When will the 580 equivalent be coming out?
Yeah, it's a very mild OC though as mentioned. I frankly didn't care which version I got notified on. I have them all set to auto notify minus the $530+ ones.Hi. Try and see if it can run a fully tricked out Crysis 1 at a solid 60 frames per second.
That should at least entertain you for 30 minutes.

LOL if this card can't run Crysis 1 maxed @ 60fps. I wish I had Crysis 1 still around to test.
+1
After playing a couple games I noticed its silent compared to my 6990. Impressed by the noise levels.

Jesus. Battlefield 3 performance report OC'd:
2560x1440 (downsampled to 1080p)
4x MSAA
Ultra everything
FOV 90
Caspian Border 48 players
Never dropped below 60 FPS. Not even once. Wow. Floored by the performance of this single card.
Card stats: Max fan speed 57%
Max temperature: 61c
Core Mhz speed was 1240 mhz throughout
RAM speed was 3443 Mhz throughout (6.89 Ghz)
Max power % used: 71%
Battlefield 3 isn't even a challenge for this card. Bring out the 8x MSAA and supersampling AA settings, DICE!
Damn, that's unbelievable. What cpu are you running?

A 2500k @ 4.5 Ghz. :O
woooooo
i live through you guys
Precision X settings?
Ah, that's a pretty well overclocked cpu. Amazing performance.
No bullshit - I thought I was doing alright but GAFers are earning!
Also, income tax checks, lol.
All you guys so super excited do realize that when absolutely overclocked to max for both, from the reviews i've seen, the 7970 equals the 680?
you could have had this stunning, amazing, world changing (apparently) performance months ago, albeit for 50 dollars more.
nvidia really pulled a fast one with boost. The fact is their GPU is now running on average 1058 mhz in reviews, vs 925 for 7970. That's a pretty big clock deficit to overcome.
But overclock the 7970 to 1250 and the 680 to, whatever it's max is under that goofy boost, and they're pretty equal, see, hardocp. The 7970 gets more boost from overclocking because well, it starts out at lot lower clock.
I'm not sure which is better, news the the 680 is seemingly capped at 70c means you can likely push the Radeon a lot farther. But no doubt for having longer bars in stock benchmarks that Joe Six Pack see, Nvidia did well with boost, I fear AMD might have to copy. I think AMD's deterministic overclocking system is better though, which is why I wouldn't welcome it.
Truth is, I did want a 7950/7970. But you know what? I like Nvidia's drivers more. Even OC vs OC, the 680 is still faster.
.
I dont care about all those dumb driver AA modes or whatever and I think their drivers are equal at best (or Nvidias worse from what I've seen).
Nvidia's "dumb driver AA modes" enable them to actually HAVE antialiasing in games where it's impossible to get AA with AMD's drivers. T
What games are those?
Not real in depth on this but I'm sure there's no difference that matters. And AMD has their own specialized driver crap too (that I also dont know about LOL)
Benchmark results: +165 core offset/+450 RAM offset, 132% power (never went above 117% lol), 1.175v, max temp 59c
10378 3dmark11's with 4.5 Ghz 2500k.

When they come back in stock I may scoop one up. But really the performance you're reporting is making me that much more excited for the "true" successor to the 580 later this year.
That muthafucker must be a beast
You really want me to spend the time and go through the list of games that you can enable AA compatibility with on Nvidia that you can't on AMD?
Let me think...
Crysis 2
Witcher 2
Syndicate
