Nintendo Registers "Super Mario 4"

After beating 3D land I'm kind of like...yea...meh.

I don't know. I'm just kind of mario'd out right now in terms of pure platforming. I just don't know what else they could do.

Holy fuck, PLEASE. It's like gonna be the 3DS game, but if this manages to be a huge Wii U game with big production values and scale above that of SMW I will be so pleased. I can't wait to see what this turns out to be.

I think this might be a 3D Mario, ala Mario 64. If it was 2D, they might have just gone with New Super Mario Bros. 2.

I'm thinking this is a Wii U title and NSMB2 will be the 2D 3DS Mario title shipping this fall.

And I'm quite the opposite. New 2D Mario after a 3D one?

IN MY VEINS.

This could be nothing at all. Nintendo registers all kinds of domains. Just look at all the other stuff they registered while registering supermario4.com.

SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL CONFIRMED!!!
SUPER SAMSH BROS. BRAWL
Samsh is basically Samus right?

SUPER METROID BRAWL CONFIRMED!!!
You're both wrong, anyway. It clearly says Super Sams Hbr Osb Rawl when you click Oni's link.

Despite what some fans think, Nintendo does listen to what fans say - more so than a lot of companies. They just don't act on every whim, or they take it under consideration for a further future than people would like.

In this case, I would not be at all surprised if they got the message "we love Mario but we do not like NSMB's presentation. We want classic Mario. We want SMB3 style Mario."

Despite the "New Super Mario Bros Mii" demo (which may just be a prototype that never sees the light of day) I think New Super Mario is essentially a done deal. It was an IP used to get the expanded audience people to recognize that the classic style of Mario game from the 80s was back. It was a trust-building exercise. I think it's why 3D Land started moving the aesthetics towards Mario Galaxy, rather than literally aping NSMB in 3D. With a lot of SMB3 thrown in. (See? They do listen.)

What this sounds like to me, on the optimistic side, is Nintendo now proceeding to the next phase and creating a sequel to SMB3 / SMW that is squarely in the style, as well as gameplay, of the games everyone has been saying are their favorites.

No sale unless it's revealed at a videogame tournament and Jenny Lewis is involved somehow. Fred Savage can stay home.

Not building up hype for this, but assuming this is real... Considering this is not New SMB/Wii/Mii, it has the strong possibility of being the "logical" sequel to Mario 3/World, with tons of inventory items, flying, secrets everywhere, etc. instead of being a retooling of Mario 1 with no flying and limited power-ups.

Wish-list:
- Classic hand drawn art, no 3D models in official art.
- No ground/background tiles modeled after 3D.
- Awesome music. More like Paper Mario's, less like Mew SMB's.
- Flying

Can't believe my hype train is already at full speed, and we're not even close to E3 yet.

I'd REALLY love if they came back to a fully 2D game made with beautiful sprites.

Lmao, domain registration meaning anything...
it could be to stop people from faking about such a game, not that they ever intend to make that long-awaited sequel... and the hype for that game will destroy such a project anyways

I kinda hope this is for Wii U instead of 3DS. Would be amazing for a new Super Mario World-esque console game. My body is ready.

What we want:

As amazing as that artwork is, I don't think it's an art style I'd want in a Mario game. It feels too artsy and doesn't really have the Mario feel to it. The art style suits Yoshi Island's much more.

With that said though, I hope they give the next 2D Mario a new art direction because NSMB DS/Wii looks so god damn sterile.

I don't see this becoming something in the short term future. However, I hope I'm wrong.

Also, SMW>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SMB3. Even Miyamoto knows this.

That's SMB4 not Super Mario 4.

I don't think it's impossible for Nintendo to change things up. However, I'm kind of doubtful they will switch up the aesthetics. Both of the past NSMB's have sold over 20 million copies. If anything they are receiving positive feedback for the aesthetic over a minority. They by and large do their own thing with Mario Kart and it continues selling a gigantic amount of copies despite gamers complaining about rubberband ai, blue shell, etc.

Also, I wouldn't consider SM3DL an example of Nintendo listening. EAD Tokyo developed Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario 3D Land. I don't think it has as much to do with them listening as the fact that they are maintaining status quo.

No true hype here!
We already knew about New Super Mario Bros Mii and NSMB 3DS. Is GAF waiting for a 3D Mario one for WiiU so soon?

Plus, Super Mario Kart is really a blank name. Even worse than Mario Kart 7.
4 after which "3"? SMB3? SM3DL? It's not even the 4th 3D Mario game!
At least SM3DL was very explicite, here with the SM4 title only I'm confused.

Obviously it's Super Mario Bros 4: Episode 1:

Features:
-4 Worlds with 4 levels each. Generic Grass World, Generic Beach World, Generic Cave World and Generic Lava World!!!
-Mario only playable. No Luigi!
-Amazing inconsistent physics
-Art style much more sterile than NSMB DS/Wii with grainy tile textures.
-Every character object are cell-shaded for absolutely no reason!
-Music done with dying cats as synth.
-Best of all: 15 dollars on WiiWare!!!!! Cheap price, can't beat that!!!!!

You know what Nintendo needs to bring back for the next Mario? A good old school world map!

This gives me hope that Nintendo is striving for more with this title than the half-assed NSMB games. Awesome. I want to see a Yoshis Island or Super Mario 64 type leap ahead for the series.
