The browser-based stream is ridiculously good quality. Probably better and more reliable than using iPlayer.

From now on, using UK VPN and BBC feed over the Player.

When's the next Sky-only race? Asking because I signed up for a region-free streaming site. No way I'd use that over this, I don't think.

Oh, Sunhi with the gold .gif. That needs to be in the OP for #2 thread.

Gary Anderson seems like a nice guy, but he sure is fucking boring to watch on television. The only weak link in the BBC's coverage at the moment.
So, is he kind-of filling in Brundle's role?

That reminds me, who's James Allen with? I know he's been specifically signed on for the Australian simulcast (as in, outside of BBC last year) but kinda miss his technical knowhow.

Pretty sure he is on BBC 5 Live.

BBC just have all the rapport and relationships with the drivers and teams. Sky can't just buy that.

Missed most of the race, gonna check out the highlights later today

Bahrain is on sky, Spain & monaco are on bbc.

Gary anderson is filling teds role

Yeah he always makes me feel like sleeping, then I feel bad because he is informative (though disagree with his opinions at times)

Pretty sure he is on BBC 5 Live.
Is that the radio stream?

In that case, would it be best to watch the broadcast and listen to that? I remember listening to it in Melbourne on the portable TV thing and it was more than informative.

Damn, that's it for forum? I didn't want it to end. Entertaining, relaxed and not at all formal, but informative. Those three work together really well. Coulthard surprises me with his chops in front of camera for some reason.

I'm warming to Gary. Ultimately because 'seeming boring' is really a non-issue after a while. I'd rather hear from someone with some real expertise than a very TV-friendly personality who has no real in-depth F1 knowledge.

Anyway, I wonder how many more races like this before RIC and VER start to feel unsafe. Or are Toro Rosso going to be less impatient with these two for whatever reason?

Dunno if you'd get it from BBC-Player, but one of the streams on the BBC website is exactly that: BBC TV, R5 audio.

Ah, cool.

Apologies for all the questions, guys. Probably won't matter as much once the races are well outside my timezone :(

I'm safe to drop the VPN now? No more UK stuff to watch?

That's the first time this millennia that I've watched an entire F1 weekend without hearing Martin Brundle's voice. I feel like I've cheated.

I can't say I'm missing Brundle, but I'm missing Ted :(

Same Ted is the man when it comes to reporting what's happening in the pits. I've become so used to and comfortable with him and Lee Mckenzie I can't imagine anyone else being better doing their jobs. I miss Brundle's pit walk but he doesn't seem as good on Sky for some reason.

You're not missing much. He doesn't even look like he has much fun doing it. Guess that's what you get for selling your soul to the devil.

Wow, Sky's CG grid looks like Formula 1 '97.

And Sauber's going to catch Ferrari in the WCC after the next race.

Which is why i'm still not impressed with Massa and just Ferrari overall yet. Teams like Sauber and Williams will be relishing the opportunity to take a nice chunk of points where they should be easily bagging them. Though I guess it makes it more interesting but just saddening to look at Massa.

Edwards is shorter than he sounds.

Other than that, he's perfectly fine. Just like Brundle is. Hell, just like I even thought Legard was.

I really don't get strong opinions on commentators. The only thing I've noted is that they all make mistakes every race. Yes, even Brundle did it plenty last year.

I prefer Edwards to Crofty, but Brundle never seems to miss anything, just like Coulthard, and like someone said he always comes out with some awesome one-liners.

Brundle missed loads last season, but I guess I'd notice that being a fan of a deeply midfield team like 2011 Sauber.

During the races his commentary is still awesome as ever. Still comes out with those awesome lines.
Pasta.
Al.
Dente.

I wonder how long Ferrari can protect Massa from the angry mob that is about to burn their factory down.

If I were to rate the commentators

1. DC
2. Brundle
3. Crofty
4. Edwards

So I watch sky during the race. BBC for everything else

What the heck does it say on the teddy bear Massa is holding in the clip, every time I see it it seems like it says 'Keep strong Hamilton' but i'm sure it's not that

Same here. DC and Brundle were the perfect combination, shame we only got one year of them two commentating together.

It really is.

I would have watched Sky for the race today as I plan to when BBC is broadcasting live, but I decided to stay in bed and watch TV instead since I don't have Sky upstairs ;)

CROFTY IS RATHER ANNOYING TO LISTEN TO. GIVE ME COULTHARD OR EDWARDS ANY DAY. /CROFTY

Fitting how you're yelling it in true Crofty style.

Number of races driven before first victory:
1. Mark Webber 130 (Germany 2009)
2. Rubens 123 (Germany 2000)
3. Jarno Trulli 119 (Monaco 2004)
4. Jenson Button 113 (Hungary 2006)
5. Nico Rosberg 111 (China 2012)
6. Giancarlo Fisichella 110 (Brazil 2003)
7. Mika Häkkinen 96 (Europe 1997)
8. Thierry Boutsen 95 (Canada 1989)
9. Jean Alesi 91 (Canada 1995)
10. Eddie Irvine 82 (Australia 1999)

So I wonder which way they'll go with the Red Bull from now on. If Vettel hadn't had such a Webber style start I think he'd have been on for a podium (at least based on how it worked out for his race in general). Webber's spec seemed better in qualifying though.

Interestingly I wasn't too far off on my 4th prediction, though I didn't expect him to be 16th off the start. :D

It's probably an Alonso voodoo bear.

They have those, right?

I'm also thinking that with the somewhat decent (given the car) performances of Webber this year, there won't be as much talk of whether he'll get a contract renewal if he keeps this up?

I would swap Brundle with DC but otherwise agree. However as a team I feel the BBC staff works better as a team. I like Crofty but don't feel much for the pairing with Brundle, it feels unbalanced. Ted reporting on his own is infinitely better than with that other woman who's name I don't even care to remember (she seems sweet but doesn't offer much outside of general observations that anyone off the street would). So for that I prefer watching the BBC and sky later to see how they covered it, so when the BBC have the live races i'll be there. Maybe if they had Lao I might change my mind.

DC and Brundle were awesome together.

Edwards is decent, but he should stop talking over radiomessages.
Ugh I hate that so much, trying to figure out what the driver is saying and listening to him continue. Yesterday I was desperately trying to figure out what Seb was saying over the radio and he just went on and on and on, then in the end I think went 'oh radio, couldn't make out any of that could you? lol'.

(maybe that was crofty)

Webber on top of a list at last! lol

*runs away*

While I would like to appreciate gary anderson I just cant quite get past the fact that he has been completely and consistently wrong about everything so far.

Ahaha, I'll pay that one!

I still remember exactly where I was when I saw that victory. Wasn't watching the race at home, but at a shitty little pub with no sound. I was so fucking over the moon when he brought it home in Germany. So many mechanical problems with all his teams up until then, dude's just had more than his fair share of genuinely bad luck.

Well there's still his technical analysis of Ferrari's issues, though I still get the feeling he's wrong, just by his record.

Read some comments from Massa at the repubblica and Gazzetta dello Sport. He honestly thinks he's improving. "Last race I started from 13th position, this race it was 12th place. Slowly but surely we're improving."

That's never been the case for me - iPlayer definitely kicks into a higher bitrate than what you can get on the BBC Sport site, but maybe it's different if you're accessing it from another country.

I don't know how his done in previous races but today he was saying that Red Bull made a big mistake by going for a 2 stop strategy for Vettel.

If Red Bull put him on a three stop strategy then surely he wouldn't have been anywhere near the top 5 but behind that train of cars battling between 7-12th place.

Edit: This is the worst time of the race weekend, right after the race and post race is finished. Still on such a high.
