Halo 4 - November 6, 2012.

I hope there's some kind of double XP deal with my dew, doritos, and/or doritos tacos so I can fuel up and level up at the same time!

This is great! I'm going to tell everyone at work I'm taking the afternoon off so I can go vote.

It takes less then 15 mins to vote in my ward.

I might buy it someday but I absolutely have no hype for this game due to the MP impressions. Fuck 343i.

Because we've seen anything at all right?

You really don't want to hold your "fuck 343i" comment for when we actually get to see the multiplayer in action, or at the very least have things explained in detail?

Seriously, what the hell.

Are they trying to get Activision to blink and move the date. COD has always been released at around that time, I think WaW was the latest.
The Halo games on 360 combined have sold 21 million copies while Black Ops alone has sold 25 million. Why would Activision blink again?

This seems like a bad idea, September releases were usually good for Halo, got it out ahead of Call of Duty along with all the other AAA October/November releases. Wonder if the game wasn't going to be ready in time or not. Regardless of how you feel about Halo OR Call of Duty this doesn't make sense for Microsoft. The reality is that Call of Duty will outsell anything else regardless of it's quality, and given that Call of Duty is biggest on 360 it just seems like Microsoft is cannibalizing their own income. It's not like Halo will fail or anything if they come out at the same or around the same time, but it's hard to argue that it won't hurt sales at least a bit.

"First mainline Halo in years? Forget that, I need to pick up another bi-monthly release of the same turgid brown shooter with a vapid plot-less campaign and a multiplayer which acts as a time waster for teens in juvenile delinquency centers instead."

Really now, at the very worst I'd imagine the average shooter fan will buy both. If it's a matter of one or the other, most aren't going to pass up the chance to continue the Chief's story.

Fuck 343i.

Only 2, and the second was in the process of construction, so there are 6 still out there.

So my Halo knowledge is lacking in general, but is it safe to say that this new race in H4 that will be introduced is the peeps who made Halo to begin with, or was it already told who created Halo's ?

Whatever it is, it looks incredibly stupid.
Hypertrooper pointed out that he's wearing it in the other video, too. You can see it through the sniper scope. Definitely looks like a Jetpack in that shot.

Because this:

If it comes out the same day or within a week or two of CoD I know several people that will outright not buy it, at least not day one. I can't remember if they ever put out numbers for it, but a SHOCKING amount of Halo 3 players never completed the Campaign. I agree that it having Master Chief alone will probably propel it to greater success than Reach, but you'd also probably be surprised at the amount of people who don't give a fuck.

Exactly, PC, 360 and ps3. And the fact that their main audience is the 360 one since MS keep giving them tons of $ for DLC exclusivity, id say they'll blink.

That's why I don't get this from the Microsoft side. They're giving Activision probably a fuckton of money for that Call of Duty exclusive, it's by a decent margin most popular on 360, so why would they directly compete with themselves by putting this out at the same time. Even if Activision blinks, why would they choose to go down that road with them when it's hugely beneficial for both parties?

That post is so skewed I don't even know where to start. The numbers for CoD were PC, PS3 and 360 and the numbers for Halo titles on 360 was wrong.

Either which way, my point was that CoD popularity is declining and it has been fortunate up till now not to be pitted against a mainline Halo game. Now that it is, players will have to make a choice and I'd imagine they'd rather go with the Chief who has been out of commission for long enough to make it fresh and so that they can continue with the series without missing anything plot related.

They wouldn't, which is why I think this whole thing is insane.

Edit: What is going on behind the scenes for this to be happening. A lot of the people who buy COD do not give a fuck about Halo. The opposite is also true of course, and lots of people will get both but I can only see this taking the majority of sales away from Halo not COD.

Because the audience is there, isnt going anywhere and the 360 outsells every other console for the past i dunno how many months?

I may be drunk here, but this seems like a good business plan.

/SELL GAEMS

/THIS GAEM IS GRAET

/WAYT. WUT COD IS CUMMING OUT. FUCKKKKKKKK IT.

/Halo prophetzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz x10000000000000

This is assuming they cater toward Internet message board banter from fanboys. Activision is a business and Microsoft is their partner. Choosing this date for Halo 4 wasn't done in a vacuum and I doubt it's chosen as a slap in the face to Activision or throwing down the gauntlet like so many here feverishly wish it was.

Even with its declining popularity, MW3 still has sold more than any Halo game on the 360 alone. BLOPS 2 will still sell more than Halo 4. But let's not act as if selling a bunch and still coming short of Call of Duty is a bad thing. That's what's wrong with the industry right now. So many publishers don't hit that 20-25 million mark, so they think their game is a failure.

You could not be more wrong.

Is there any word on a collector's edition or whatever?

I'm going to pre-order it on Amazon, but I'd rather have a collector's edition if they have one.

Modern Warfare 3 is the first Call of Duty to decline, and it's down a whole whopping 4%. As far as I can tell from looking at Xbox Live Activity lists since the day Black Ops came out but Black Ops AND Modern Warfare 2 placed above Reach every listing until Modern Warfare 3 came out, and then MW3 and Black Ops have placed above Reach every month. Fuck, Modern Warfare 2 last month was only one spot behind Reach.

I think the main point of contention is the draw of Master Chief. I know plenty of people who played the fuck out of Halo 3 MP and never touched Campaign. I played Halo 3 online for years and would always look in lobbies at random profile screens and the vast majority of profiles I looked at had never beaten Campaign. I think people may be slightly over estimating the draw of Master Chief at this point. But even if that's not the case, that only applies to Campaign; no one really gives a fuck about Call of Duty single-player. So even assuming that MC pushes people to buy the game, a new Call of Duty multiplayer coming out at about the same time will probably draw away a huge chunk of those players regardless of quality.

To be clear in any scenario I'm pretty confident Halo 4 will be a better game, and that is the one of the two I will definitely buy day one. I just think people on GAF are not a great barometer for judging the success here, especially if you look at how huge Halo threads are here and how much Call of Duty is shit on, and then compare that to the general public perception and sales.

Edit: Does anyone have LTD Modern Warfare 1 360 sales and Halo 3 sales? That's really the only direct comparison we can draw since people are using the "mainline" Halo excuse, which is a a result also a factor since a lot of people seemed to be disappointed with Reach, which could hurt going into 4 (although you can make the same argument about MW3 -> Blops 2).

That was more of an inside joke than anything.

I see. I understand being worried about a franchise you love. Kinda like what George did to Star Wars... But 343 have some of the best people in the industry there, including former Bungie members. Im not worried. The game has been suffering from franchise fatigue and change is really inevitable.

In fact, its what IMO COD needs as well. A bit of change.
