Uh, YEAH...so any sympathy I felt for him/his company regarding their experience or any perception that he was only being blunt and honest just got tossed out the window. It's one thing to gripe about a personal experience with Nintendo but way to advertise your game to me the consumer by slapping me in the face and telling me all those countless hours I spent on my Wii were just with party games and my system is only a toy. Seriously, what's with the huge spike in deliberate ill will being directed at Nintendo and its fans lately by devs?

All the developers with anything good to say are under NDA.

I don't know about fans.. but from a business standpoint

When you see someone with so much, but so little of it actually goes your way. You want to lash out. I mean why can't the golden secret be shared with all

Wow. I'm kind of annoyed that I defended him. Having a bad experience with another company is one thing. Stooping to dishonest statements like that just puts everyone in defense mode.

In fact, maybe whenever this matter is brought up, I will post the damning 3rd party chart:

Yeah, 3rd party sales weren't a dream situation, and there were problems all around, but the raw numbers were pretty good, and the Wii was most emphatically not just a "Wii Sports machine".

Jools Watsham's (Renegade Kid) blog is the perfect response to Oster's nonsense.
I posted this in the other thread too. Jools shows how Devs can publish a game on a Nintendo platform and make a profit from it. (He had a hit with Mutant Mudds on the 3DS.)

I think the problem with a lot of publishers these days is the fact that they spend too much time looking into the past instead of looking into the future. It seems like every move a publisher wants to take must be measured by sales numbers of the past. Sure, I get it. It is smart to see what happened in the past. It helps gauge what MIGHT happen in the future. But, it does not dictate or predict what WILL happen in the future. There are so many variables you might have to – god forbid – use your human instincts to make a grown-up decision on your own and not fall back on stale data.

Aside from being pretty damning to that developer's statements, what I find most interesting about that chart is the sudden upward trend from periods 12 to 14. What brought that about?

What I don't understand from the beamdog dev is he insults a hardcore group of fans.. The exact kind of people that would buy his baldur's Gate port...

Somebody suggested it was Guitar Hero. More importantly, it was the first holiday season following after the one that the system was released in (which had supply issues, so there's no equivalent leap there).

Exactly.
And because of those comments, it makes it more likely I'll avoid any game he's involved with in the future. After all, I'm too busy playing Wii Sports.....

Do we know any info at all about the WiiU user ID's, like if they can just be our existing Club Nintendo ID's or if it will be some completely new registration?

Probably too specific questions for the time being though.

We don't know other than you can have multiple accounts on a system.

Never said one word about fans. Stop taking everything so personal. Get a grip people....

They have made changes to the 3DS just because of the problem this guy is talking about. He had valid point when he made his game. That is why they have made changes to fix these problems.

Third party support on the wii was terrible. They are trying to fix that with the Wiiu. Everyday you hear about they are adjusting the hardware to help third party devs.

Which just makes his comments all the more ridiculous...

No it proves his point. IF there was no problem why would we here about then fixing it.

Just because they have fixed it on the 3ds that doesnt change anything about the wii problems that are still there.

We can just hope they really are listening the third party to make a better console. The one thing the wii prove is that they do not really need third party support to sell more than anyone else.

But no one is expecting or wanting the game on the Wii...
It would be for the Wii U which has none of the problems he listed.
Add to that he won't do the game for the 360 because of the controller and the fact that he comes off as a bitter douchebag, and you can see why people don't like him.

Would this guy have even gotten a chance to work with an SDK? Not defending him, just curious. Sorry, I'm ignorant of who he is.

No of course not.

Xbox live also had these same problems with the MB limit. MS increased the size limit.

Wii still seems to have this problem.

The Wii physically can not increase the limit.
It was a stupid mistake to make early on, yes, but it couldn't be changed.
It wasn't Nintendo saying "HAHA! STUPID DEVS!" it was something they simply could not fix at the time.
They have with the 3DS (which seems to have no known limit) and the Wii U.
Add to that, they removed the "you have to sell X to see any money" and moved it to the same margins that Steam uses and switched to a cash based system where you don't have to buy blocks of crap and you have a pretty damn good system.
Most devs have actually been praising the eShop and have been seeing some good returns on it, in fact.

Do we know that? Not sure how we would.
Why would they regress from the eShop? Seems silly.

And those "good" changes are from DEV on the wii just like this guy. This is what you just dont get.

Just beacuse they cant change it doesnt change the fact is was terrible.

Unrelated, but AKB48+Me was announced for 3DS, and it's published by Kadokawa.

This makes me tap my fingers, wanting to grab them by the shirt and scream "Guys, does RODEA ring a bell?!" :/

I'm losing faith as more and more Kadokawa games are announced, and the game is done, where is it?!

Is it pathetic that I would get this if I had a Japanese 3DS?

I'm not saying it wasn't terrible...
I'm saying he's being a child because he's holding a stupid grudge that is completely irrelevant now.

You are taking this wayyy to personal. Dude got burnt by the wii, give him a break.

He got burnt by a system that he knew was in place well before he developed for it, then he goes on a tirade because his game didn't sell very much.
He's being a child.
Simple as that.
I don't give breaks to people that obviously don't belong in this industry.

Doesn't help.

First?
How mean, I sure do a lot of helping around here, like...uhm..bringing the dark side out of all of you and feasting on it. See I'm helping
myself
.

Dry Ice.

I just got home from classes, are we still talking about those tweets?
We're drinking tea, sitting at a nice round marble table and talking about some things here and there. Ah yes, most certainly you can be involved in this little discussion we are having here, a nice gentlemanly discussion. Please won't you sit down? What kind of tea would you like?

Kind of partial to Arizona Tea recently. But I'll take a cold Coke over tea any day, if it weren't for potential kidney stones.
