Spoiler (?) from the Welcome to Republic City flash site:
the information site on waterbending says that extremely advanced waterbender can learn bloodbending. It kind of sounds like they imply that bloodbending is "more" common than during TLA

Just a thought, bloodbending can become more common for a medical/healthcare field in the series.

amon is that kid zuko helped on that farm
He was zukos servant.

"Master master Ive cleaned the gutters, milked the cows, prepped the horses, and Ive made you your tea"
"This tea... is warm. Ill teach you to disgrace my uncles memory!!"
"NOoooOoo"
"This scar will forever remind you never to give me warm tea"

I think that would be the better ending personally but it probably won't happen. If it did then I'll give a standing ovation.

Could be a nice link to our world but i don't think the creators are into that kinda message stuff though.

that would be awful :/

well it could set the path for industrialism and technology to help in the path to progress like now.

Just realized that this can't be true since Tenzin was standing next to Korra at the end on episode 1 when Amon was listening to their speech on the radio.

There is only one explanation for this

.......

Amon is everyone.

Just got done watching the 3rd episode. It's on nick.com in HD if anyone missed it.

Theory time.

I'm gonna guess that Amon's story about his childhood is a lie. But his story about a spirit giving him that power could be true.

The one spirit that we know of that has vowed to face the Avatar is Koh the face stealer. Amon wears a mask. I bet either Amon is the spirit Koh in human form. Or, Koh made a deal with a human. Either way, I'm excited as shit to learn more.

Just finished ep 3.

What a scary world to live in. Dude's talking about mass mutilation, and tons of people are on board with it because it doesn't affect them. Sends chills down my spine.

*ahem*

Great minds think alike, I guess. :P

I think this is the case too. He's got to be lying about something, and it's either his energybending or his childhood. It would be so sweet if we saw a return of Koh.

Going even further, I think if Koh does have a hand in this then I imagine it's in retaliation to something Aang had to do post-ATLA. That would be a good way of bridging the two shows more, and would carry on with the motif on Aang's legacy, which seems to be written all over this show.

Oh man, I would love for Koh to somehow be involved in all of this. Dude is creepy as fuck and I loved all of his scenes in the original series.

I'm surprised so many people here don't think Amon really used energy bending. No light show, sure, but I took that more as a visual storytelling means of showing the conflict of spirits, not that energy bending necessarily means people are shooting color coded lights out of every orifice.

You might be right.

I wonder if Mako's mugger and Amon's extortioner are related in any way.

Ha, just got done catching up with the thread. Saw you had the same idea. Yeah, Aang must have visited the spirit world many more times throughout his life. Somewhere along the way, he must have rubbed someone wrong.

The stakes are high when the spirits are involved.

I think the voice of that guard outside the event was the same as Haru's dad from the Fire Nation prison in the first season of Avatar. I knew it sounded familiar.

I can't wait for Korra and Aang to meet in the spirit world. This show is so amazing and we're only 3 episodes in!!!

On topic for today's episode... Not sure if Amon did spirit bend, like everybody said it looks real close to Aangs

Touches him in the same place on the forehead, so maybe... but no chest action from Amon.

I was just thinking about this some more, and do you remember the scene where Aang takes away Ozai's bending? What was happening right here, right before he put his hands in place??

It seemed like when Aang started it, there was that weird burst of wind / fire and Ozai was placed into this almost catatonic state when the process started. I don't think that happened with the process that Amon was using, did it?

Edit: And JoeFu, I forgot about that.

That was Ozai's firebreath directed at Aang who snuffed it out with his air and managed to get close enough to do the energy bend technique.

Oh, I see. After you said that, I watched it on 0.25x speed and then I saw the beginning of it coming out of his mouth. I hadn't noticed that before.

Then what about the apparent catatonic state thing?

Also, Ozai's eyes kind of shake a little before the light show starts, similiar to what happened with Amon's victims.

You know there's also the fact that Bloodbending can only be used once every month.
It would be pretty hard to teach it to anyone besides the top brass.

I had the impression that the requirements for learning bloodbending weren't quite as much of an impediment compared to fact that there's simply a limited time you can use it.

I might be underestimating Katara (and I suppose by extension Hama), though.

I would say you have to be master level to begin to learn it. The Gaang were pretty broken powerwise.

Its equivalent to lightningbending and metalbending imo.

The only problem with that (however fucking awesome it would be) is that Amon still has his eyes, and presumably his mouth. Why would Koh only steal half a face?

Episode had amazing action scenes. The motorcycle bit was fantastic. The technology fits in so much better than I thought it would.

Episode was also quite atmospheric - really dark. I can think of only a few episodes from the original that compare.

Enjoyed the Zuko nod. Kinda wish Tenzin played a bigger part, but I guess he will have his moment. Hopefully Mako stops being such an ass after this.

Amon is an amazing villain. Whether his backstory was true or not remains to be seen, but he is scary as fuck. Really glad they are bringing him out right away, compared to the Fire Lord who we only saw a few rare glimpses of for the first two seasons.

EDIT: I agree that the animals feel forced right now, but hopefully they come into their own. Naga isn't as fun as Appa, and the fire ferret thing seems like a direct Momo ripoff.

Yes, the series only being about a third of TLA really sets a whole different pace. But they kind of had to establish Amon as a villain soon because there was no real threat before this episode.
