I want to start watching one of the super hero animated series, but there are so many. Is there one that is generally considered the best? Most lists I can find have Batman: the Animated Series(1992) as tops, but I'm pretty sure I watched that growing up, so maybe something more current? Suggestions? I'm not really partial to any character, so I'm up for anything. Thanks!

Ok this question just got in my head. Japanese language has thousands of symbols right?
So how does a keyboard handle this? Button combinations? How could someone write fast using one?

There are three types of Japanese writing; Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana. I always thought they used Katakana for keyboards since it's only ~50 characters, but after reading this it seems it's a bit more complicated.

When you're writing stuff, you use an IME. You either use romaji or kana in Japanese. You get used to it. Eventually, you get fast using it.

There are other ways of doing it, too. Obviously, in some languages, shit isn't that simple. Take Chinese, for example.

I you want to try an IME out to figure out how it operates in principle:
— Go to http://translate.google.com/?tab=wT
— Pick "From: Japanese"
— Pick "To: English"
— At the bottom of the "From" box, enable "Allow phonetic typing"
— In the "From" box, type the following: watashi
— Press space to see suggestions as a traditional IME would present them

As you see, suggestions pop up as you type (Edit: Or not, have to hit space after each word, oh well). You can click a suggestion, pick one by pressing the appropriate number, go through the list by pressing space or arrows, then continue typing to confirm. It's actually pretty straight-forward!

Edit: Don't expect too much from Google Translate itself. Just type "watashi no kuruma wa sugoi desu." and pick the appropriate symbols. As soon as you use the dot, your car switches from awesome to terrible. What?

To be fair, "sugoi" isn't necessarily a positive word. It probably went with "terrible" because that is the first definition listed.

But first, it picked "awesome" and then flipped to "terrible". It should stick to whatever it picked first in my opinion, not switch things on a whim.

I'm looking for a Simpsons episode. Grandpa says something stupid and the cat and dog look at each other in disbelief and maybe roll their eyes. Any ideas?

I've been going to a different university since last year, so the email address I used when I registered here isn't available anymore.

The only problem I've got with this is that I've forgotten what my password is (auto-connect, yay).

Is there any way I can get my neogaf account to be tied to another email address, just in case ?

Watch Batman: The Brave and the Bold. It's a more lighthearted, more humorous take on Batman. It's a team up show that has Batman pairing up with some of the more obscure DC universe characters and fighting some of the lesser known villains.

What are some good ways to keep a laptop cool?

Summer is coming, there's no A/C here but I still have to get work done.

I've tried some laptop coolers but maybe I'm not getting the right ones. I'm kinda tired of spending money but if there's one that's great let me know.

i remember in a thread a few days ago someone posted a link to some guys website which had a bunch of math tutorials on it in the form of youtube videos. Anyone know what I'm talking about.

Also, does anyone have a link to a page that has has a list of all transformation matrices like

R=0 -1

Thank you. Yesterday I went a little cray and ordered Batman: The Animated Series Volume 1, The Just League Season 1, and at your suggestion Batman: B&B season 1 part 1 and part 2. It's going to be funny [read: sad] when it turns out that I hate this genre of animation. :p

If there is nothing in the FAQ section about this I would suggest you PM a Mod/Admin here. They're quite human you know?!

There was a music video in the early to mid 2000's told through the shoes of the people in it. A guy has a girlfriend, she has ballerina slippers, him converse, he goes walking to a club and meets some slutty shoes, they hook up, someone with boots beats the shit out of him, he stole a bike at one point, etc. Anyone know what this video was, or who made the song and the name? It's killing me.

Can anyone tell me how to transfer itunes music from one computer to another? Is it possible to use the ipod itself as an external harddrive, copy the music to it, then transfer it to the new computer? I'm getting rid of my old desktop so I don't need any rights or ability to use the music there anymore.

Is there any way to disable the redirect to the mobile version of GAF? I hate the mobile version. I hit the X button to stop its redirect, but it becomes a pain in the ass to do this every time I click on something.

If you have any interest in superheroes at all you'll be fine, though honestly it's a little crazy you haven't seen any of these shows in the first place. You must have grown up with limited TV exposure.

Oh and if the second one you picked up is Justice League Unlimited you'll love that too.

If you get Cartoon Network try and stumble upon some reruns of Young Justice. Best 2D animation you'll find anywhere.

Is there a way to find out somebody's name or address from their phone number without paying one of those shitty identity websites?

Theres a girl at work here who is getting harassed by someone who has been calling her and yelling at her or asking her weird questions for months. She thinks that she doesn't know this person but isn't sure. She's been to her cell phone provider to try and get the number blocked and also to the police and they haven't been able to do anything for her.

What's that video that has 3 really white (in demeanor) kids rapping about how they're "all dat" then 2 girls on their bikes drive up and they rap how "they all dat". The video is probably from the early 90s.

Is the Ipad really the best tablet out there? I received a samsung ce0168 and its pretty cool, but my cellphone can do a lot more cool things. Now Im just trying to find the best possible one.

As with all best/worst comparisions when it comes to electronics... It depends on what your looking for in a tablet, what your willing to do to it and how much dough you have to spend.

I've had a split fingernail for over a year now. It's only split at the top, but there is a vien-like line running down the middle.

Doesn't seem like it's going to go away, what can I do?

You can superglue it to keep it from splitting more but otherwise you just have to wait till it grows out.

Edit: Oh shit, over a year? Idk, go to a doctor.

Here's a stupid question:

If an American sued A Canadian and they filed in a American court, could the Canadian just ignore it?

I would speculate (IANAL) that it would depend on the treaties established between said countries. Given the US' ties with Canada, I imagine there is something akin to 'extradition' that would make it hard to ignore.

Here's mine

So here in the US we are used to the term "African American", "Mexican American", "Asian American" but are there blacks in China (African-Chinese?) or Hispanics in Russia? Or places like China and Russia pretty much Chinese and White?

This can pretty much apply to any country besides those with a very diverse population

Of course there are blacks in China and etc. I don't really understand what you're asking.

There are all kinds of people everywhere. We're not in the 1900s anymore.

Russia in particular is ridiculously diverse.

Edit: As for the terminology, African American is a euphemism for "US descendant of African slaves" (and the others came around because of political correctness and whitewashing). So it's directly tied to the specific history of your place. Other countries have similar terms, like "Deutschtürken".

Why is Colonel pronounced kernel. Where does the "r" sound come from?

In modern English, the word colonel is pronounced kernel as a result of having entered the language in the 16th century from Middle French coronel, which was in turn derived from Italian 'colonello' (Latin columna, a column of soldiers). In British usage, the spelling 'coronel' was displaced by 'colonel' in the mid-17th century, without change to the pronunciation.

Was pleased to learn the origin of that word myself, thanks.

Are there any harmful lasting effects if you don't treat TMJ near the start of occurrence. I have developed it for a year now, but I don't even know the first place to look for help.

To add to Liquid's post, the reason it changed in Middle French was because of dissimilation of the "l" to an "r". There ended up being two forms used in Middle French: colonel and coronel [co-lo-NEL], [co-ro-NEL]. English took both. So there was a period when both languages were using both forms, but then Modern French eventually went back to colonel, and English to coronel, with the spelling colonel probably because it was the more prevalent written form in the rest of Europe (not really sure there). And then of course English butchered it to kernel.

Anybody ever had to do this? She's freaking out about it and her phone company/police haven't been able to do anything for her.

Reading a book about a sniper in Vietnam and it has me itching for some Vietnam movies. Any recommendations other than Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, We Were Soldiers, or Apocalypse Now?

(those are excluded because I have them already)

MISSING IN ACTION 2: THE BEGINNING

It's trash, but I loved it as a kid.
