New PS3 Exclusive Revealed Next Week On GTTV (Superbot's PS All-Stars)

i don't want it, therefore, no one else wants it! give me less variety sony!

Yep, forum logic based on the belief of gigantic self importance and capacity to influence all others.

Anyway, I'd like to see what characters are going to be included in the game. I am quite interested, albeit my opinion of the name of the game being somewhat lame.

Would be seriously surprised if it sells more than a million copies in the US.
What is with people and sales now?Its like every single new game now people talk about sales first and the game last.

Worry about the sales when the game is release for awhile.I am much more interested in the roster and how it plays.

As far as I know even Twisted Metal didn't make half a million yet.
So, what are we betting for?

Fighting games are a little more popular than car combat games from the 90s.

Though I don't think this will sell that well either. People overestimate the value and popularity of the majority of Sony's characters in this era. Kratos, Drake and some car from the GT series would be the only thing most people would recognize.

I think both suffer from the same problem: no appeal. Twisted Metal is just as passé as everything else Sony has to offer (with the exception of Nathan Drake, maybe). Sackboy, Jax, Crash and Ratchet are no Mario, Link or even Waluigi.

Let's make a bet. I say less than a million sales in the US in the first six months. You say more?

I say more than a million in 6 months. Maybe not a lot more.

I mean their characters at least have that much appeal, that the game may get the curiosity factor from fans of all the franchises.

Wonder how good the balance and online will be and if the game has a chance in the fighting game scene.

Doesn't Sony show up as sponsor in various FG tournaments? I'm sure they can push it well.

Crash isn't made by Sony. The rest of those are from multi-million selling franchises

Give up while you're behind

Great comparison, bravo! You should become a game journalist, you'd fit right in!

If you're so sure let's make the bet then. This is about Sonys IPs. They have nothing with huge mainstream appeal (besides Uncharted, GoW and GT) anymore. Remember what big of a deal Twisted Metal was to Sony at E3? It was supposed to be their big reveal and it still sold like shit because nobody cares about their PS1 or even PS2 catalogue anymore. All of those IPs (with the exceptions of God of War and Gran Turismo) are niche now.

We're still having this argument? Sony's got more than a dozen IPs to pull characters from. No one has the power of Nintendo's characters, but I think people may be underestimating Sony here.

Both Sackboy's outings sold around 4 million as far as I know, so while not as popular as Mario Sackboy is still pretty popular. (also SS did not do so well so the popularity of Link could be overestimate too).

There's something to be said for Sony needing to start somewhere with this type of game to make a legacy out of their characters. Might as well be now.

Equally hard to judge how much of the gaming public are aware of Smash Bros characters that haven't appeared in a mainstream game in some time outside of Mario and Zelda.

Exactly, a lot of Smash's characters are known to the public because of Smash. I sure didn't know what F-Zero, Earthbound, Metroid or even Kirby was when I got Smash64 at the ripe age of 10.

It has Mario on the cover. It will sell. He's like Mickey Mouse.

How well does SSM sell actually? (i'm genuinely asking as I've never followed the series).

People have no clue what E3 is for. E3 isn't primarily directed towards the fans who watch it on TV and online, yet everyone on the internet insists it is and claims there to be a big importance for surprises and reveals and all that blah blah. Most of their costumers don't even watch E3. The Twisted Metal reveal at E3 was merely a fan service for those core fans that do watch. It wasn't anything they were banking on. They knew their was an audience for it but not a huge one and it was budgeted appropriately.

So it's not for the fans but the reveal was for the fans, what?!

Of course Mario sells, it would be stupid to suggest otherwise. You've confirmed my point, people buy Smash because Mario and co. are on the cover, not because of all the other characters they don't necessarily know of.

Sony will need to use Drake, Kratos, Sackboy to sell the other characters to a new audience.

To amend the point, I think the original Smash sold on that factor. At this point, the games sell on being well-regarded games which is why they were able to deep further and further into Nintendo's pool of characters.

Sony's game has an interesting starting point, where it doesn't have that one character with enough recognition to really be the head of this project. We shall see how they choose to market this I guess.

I don't see any reason why this game couldn't consist of a healthy number of well-known Sony characters and be complemented by a large variety of third party characters. Sony's strength has always been in their third party partnerships. They should be hounding studios to get a huge number of fan favorites like Cloud, Ezio, Shepard, Ryu, Rayman, Snake, etc. on the roster.

Come on, now. Everybody acting surprised is invited to the bet. If it sells more than a million unites in the first 6 months I will eat a lot of crow.

My advice: You should leave this thread.

GT, Uncharted, LBP, inFamous, Killzone, Singstar, Heavy Rain, etc. are all million sellers.
The GTTV PS3 game will be "PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale".
You're not interested? -> Cya!

Not to mention stuff like Parappa is considered classic now, and has a decent cult following.

I'm still waiting on Parappa 3.

Nathan Drake, Kratos and Sackboy are PS3's big characters/franchises that are recognised and sell well worldwide, and with Japan though Im not sure about the popularity Toro/Kuro and Parappa have that region covered. And Gran Turismo could have some sort of appearance too.

Such a title is long overdue, I feel Sony has so many great niche characters that they need to be better known instead of lost in time, gamers who purchase it for the popular characters then over time they will become aware of the ones that are not well known like Sweet Tooth, Sir Daniel Fortesque and Spike from Ape Escape.

You know who they should put?

Patapon.

Pata-Pata-Pata-Pon!

*New Sony game announced*

Normal person reaction: Cool, i'm glad Sony actually supports their products with a mix of sequels and tons of new ips instead of just rehashing the same shit over and over.

GAF reaction: This is GARBAGE. This won't outsell Call of Duty or Mario Kart, or Halo, or Gears of War, or Barbie's Horse Adventure. WHY EVEN BOTHER BOMBA BOMBA BOMBA

So by this logic Battle Royale should sell as well then, considering it'll have Nathan Drake and Kratos in it, and you've just established that those IP's sell in the millions. It doesn't matter who else is in the roster, right?

Having fun watching you contradict yourself.

Is that for the entire series? (if so, how many games are in the series, I think i heard there's about 3 or 4)

No 10 million is for the most recent one Brawl.

Melee is around 7 million

And no idea how much the original sold.

~Edit~
According to Wiki, the original sold about 5 million, but that's only Japan and the States.

So, you can choose between a car, Drake, Sackboy, the ever suave dude from infamous, Rico, a Microphone and Jason?

Are you saying that Nathan Drake and/or Kratos are even remotely as big as Mario?

So if the game had over 20 characters would you guys be satisfied?

Confirmed from Survey:
Nathan Drake
Kratos
Ratchet&Clank
Parappa
Sweet Tooth*leaked by dev*

Rumor characters from leaked source:
Sly Cooper
Colonel Mael Radec
Fat Princess
Sackboy
Jak & Daxter
Nariko
James Bond

That may leave 8 or more characters be announced.

yeah if you think about it, each of those series are all million sellers and more, it's possible that small portion of each separate series fans to become interested with Battle Royale and it add up to become a million seller of it's own.

of course the game will need to be good first, so the good reviews and coverage will push people who are just mildly curious because of one character to actually go and buy the game. sales will probably also be a slow burner and not as front loaded as other series that already have it's fanbase

I'm not making any bet until I can see the game myself and see how I feel about it. just the premise alone can't decide if it'll sell or not imo
