I remember someone in the speculation thread waaaaay back when this was first hinted at suggesting characters like Cat (I believe who is from Gravity Rush/Daze for Vita, someone might correct me on that) and Emmet Graves from Starhawk may (or rather should) be included to help push those games. I think that would be a good idea.

As you've said, Sony need to make their characters more iconic and I would hope that future iterations of this game don't require 3rd party characters to help sell the product.

As for Sony cancelling the game, I wouldn't mind them doing so if it meant we'd get MediEvil 3 and Tomba 3 instead :p

The idea of crossovers is definitely not something Nintendo came up with. Whether or not it has similar gameplay as Nintendo's crossover fighter is yet to be known, but why shouldn't it? If someone comes up with something that works not take it and try to make it even better. Only adds to the competition. Can you imagine the state of most game genres if developers never took influences from one another?

If anything Smash Bros fans should be excited because this could lead to even better Smash Bros games.
 
Kat should be in this game without a shadow of a doubt: Gravity Daze will be out long before Battle Royale is, and any strong female figure who can prevent the roster from becoming anymore of a sausage-fest is wholly needed. Plus the game is already confirmed to be a masterpiece and she has all those gravity-defying combo's to make her stand out from the crowd. Her and Sir Daniel Fortesque would be glaring omissions if not included.

Yeah, I have to say I'd find that interesting too lol. Hearing Snake ramble on about war is hell stuff while Nate babbles on with his "oh craps" and self motivational speeches.

Naaa, Sully needs to be in the game day 1 since he's the best and most important character in the series anyway.
 
Even if it is inspired by SSB. I wonder where they make improvements outside of graphical fidelity and better online support. I think that's pretty exciting in and of itself.

How do they handle alot of characters having guns from their respective series?

Will they have DLC characters?

Will they have new modes?

How will they educate gamers on where the old characters are derived from?

Will it tie into Vita?
 
One thing I don't get is everyone who is still claiming it'll just be a full unveiling of God of War: Ascension. That's already confirmed to be in development by SSM and not Superbot. There were leaks and reports of this "Sony Smash Bros." game since last Fall, with in game renders and such leaked (like Sweet Tooth). With the domain name registration and God of War's recent reveal there's absolutely no chance it's not PASBR. I for one can't be more excited, I've been wanting a Smash Bros. type experience on the PS3 for a long time. It could be Sony's new flagship title.
 
I'm kinda hoping there's a story mode, I'd love to hear some witty banter from some of Sony's characters.

Imagine Cole and Zeke being introduced to someone like, Cloud and Sepiroth (even though that's SE).

He has minimal relation to Sony, aside from appearing in games on Sony platforms. It would be an odd choice making him a part of the main rooster/cast. Besides Sony has their own James Bond personifications like Drake and Gabe Logan. They wouldn't need another from a third party.

EDIT: I hope Zeus will be a in the rooster since he is a good counterpart to Kratos, and therefore a logical choice.

But that's kind of my point
He appeals to a wider and different base than most of Sony's characters (and even some of the 3rd party ones people are suggesting)
 
I hope if Sony does include 3rd party characters they are smart enough to realise that fans loved the original designs not the rebooted ones that are occuring with Spyro, Crash and Dante. I just can't see myself support this game if it includes reboot designs, even if everything else is perfect.

Sora would be nice. Also, someone from Final Fantasy. Why not Tidus? Final Fantasy X HD is coming up. Should be easy to get him into the game.

I want the boy+girl from Legend of Mana and Riou from Suikoden 2. I know neither will happen but one can hope. I'm really just grasping at straws here, hoping at least one awesome Playstation RPG franchise/IP is represented.

I'm afraid Capcom, Namco, Tecmo, Sega, Konami and SNK didn't read the memo either. Must have been too busy developing/publishing fighting games...

Wild Arms series, Legaia series, Legend of Dragoon, arc the lad series, Demon Soul, WKC series, over my dead body, What Did I Do To Deserve This, My Lord? series, patapon series, jean d arc, folklore, alundra series.
i am not hoping to much for this since most of the title aren't even published by SCEA in US

there is enough female character from those title to prevent the game being sausage fest.
 
I hope it's less hardcore fighting and more in the spirit of SSB with knocking one another off the stage. Although maybe that's too close to the source material.
