Try Tribez. The 'building' aspect of it is kind of on-rails, but it should hit all those other sweet spots she might like.

my wife plays and keeps going back to games like Virtual Families and Virtual Villagers. I asked her why she keeps going back to these games and her answer is: Because as much as you see me play, i havent "finished" the games. there seems to be tons to do.

As before mentioned, Trade Nations or Tribez. Also might try out Aero Vacation or Sunshine Cruise Lines.

Not an expert at all on the genre, but Snoopy's Street Fair seems to be right down this alley. Seems to be well put together too. Tried it out as a sponsor app on FreeMyApps.

Thanks for the replies. I sent them on to her and we'll see how it goes hopefully tonight when she can try them.

Is GTA3 worth getting for the iPad? How are the controls?

For what it's worth, I liked it a lot. It was on sale recently, so you might want to either wait for another sale or get it through freemyapps.com (it's legit, lots of people here can vouch for that). I had no problems with the controls and enjoyed the game quite a lot, but I know some people here didn't like it as much. I love the GTA series though, so there's that :P I had fun with it for sure.

Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer dropped to 99cents (US, 79cents euro)

I wish I'd purchased this months ago. What an addictive game. Have been looking for another asynchronous title to play with the BF (we've played Carcassonne into the ground and Hero Academy was very disappointing (not that I really expected much)). It's going to take me awhile to wrap my head around this, as I've never played a deck building or TCG. Seemingly a steal at a buck.

iOS boardgaming thread with a spreadsheet full of people to play with! ;)

Still looking for a loot-heavy game, any more input? So far we've only really gotten... Dungeon Hunter 2 lol.

Sadly right now that's the best of the bunch. Much like Roguelikes, there was a fair few in the genre then they all died off.

One I did neglect to mention was The Bards Tale, that's not a bad one.

Thanks! Quick Q that I actually forgot in my initial post: as (a) novice player(s), should we go ahead and get the expansion, or wait until we're more experienced?

The expansion adds a lot more variety and possibility for strategy, so if you like the game, the expansion is a MUST. :P Because the amount of cards is limited in the base, a lot comes down to luck with regards to what cards are in the middle. With more cards comes more strategy, because you can really try to get a "theme" going in your deck. So I'd say, start with the base, see if you like it/understand it, but try to move onto the Expansion if you can, it makes the game even better.

I've only been playing a few days and I'm already itching to try the expansion. I'd say get your feet wet with the AI offline (there's two levels of difficulty), then take the base game online. You'll probably want the expansion in no time.

Very happy with this game even at $5. $1 is a no brainer for anyone reading. I've never played a card game like this and love it.

What's your name in Trade Nations? When I get back on one of my freemium binges, I'll add you. Totally agree about Street Fair - one of the reasons I stopped playing.

My username is atre324

Omg, TapJoy is amazing... just got enough magic beans to buy the huge warehouse finally, and I still have over 100 to spend on other stuff. HOpefully all these apps I installed didn't steal allmy data, lol.

Really wish TapJoy worked for Tiny Village or Snoopy's Street Fair :(

Has anyone gotten to the 3rd island in Tribez, btw? I just got a mission to go find the tunnel to get there. Other than that I'm just saving up the resources to restore the ancient sanctuary. Marble/Stone is slowwwwwwww

iOSGAF I need your help. I'm trying to find some specific types of games for my gf to play. She wants a mixture of things that are like certain games but not (lol):

Farmville - likes this general concept, but not the part where you HAVE to keep things maintained or you lose it. Things happen while you're gone, yet are still waiting for you regardless of how long you've been gone.

Sim City - Any type of Sim game where you act as a "god" in the sense that you can manipulate anything (see also: Pocket God game). Like Farmville, you build things up from scratch, and they can go on without you being there constantly.

Gardens of Time - Likes the hide and seek aspect, as well as how you can have buildings start and be finished when you get back after a few hours. Not enough "sim" in this game though.

Hope that can give you an idea of the type of game. I tried to get her to play Tiny Tower, but she didn't seem into that. iPhone or iPad, doesn't matter.

Pocket Frogs

Don't worry guys, Infinity Blade Dungeons will eventually save us.

Fuck you Chair for making ClashMobs an useless POS

I've found the ClashMobs to really come in to something this week. I picked up like six awards just this morning/last night and they have a much larger number running at one time than before. And they are almost always successful these days, too. Might be worthwhile to try them again.

Also, anybody wanting to enlarge their ClashMob crew please add me:

is Chrono Trigger any good for the iphone? i've read that the controls are horrible? i was thinking of grabbing some of the final fantasy games as well, hoping those don't suck as well....

They're all fine. Chrono Trigger is horribly bloated in size, but it's all there.

I hate virtual d-pads on iPhone. They take up too much screen real estate. Might be ok if it were iPad. Probably depends on how you feel about games that use virtual d-pads in general.

On that note...are there any SNES emulators or are those banned on the app store due to them allowing you access to play pirated games? I want to play Chrono Trigger Crimson Echoes.

1.) Is that "Fling" thumb pad attachment any good? Will it hurt the screen?

2.) Is there a comfortable way of holding the iPad? I don't know if it's exclusive to the iPad 3, but it's weighty in a way that makes holding it kinda uncomfortable.

no thanks or courtesy from the persom either. oh well. ill be posting codes i get from freeappdaily and freemyapps so be on the lookout.

That's why I posted, I tried the first code but it was already redeemed... So I posted to let everyone know that it's not worth trying, since someone took it already.

My code from FreeAppDaily is saying "This code is only valid for customers of the Store" when it attempts to redeem it.

Anyone had this problem?

I got a "Only valid in the US store", maybe that's what it meant? Odd though. But if it worked then all good.
