Having played in the
CBT, Stress Test, and the
BWE... and having played MMOs since days of The Realm and UO betas.... I think a September to October timeframe is a good guess for release. It's a realistic figure and if they beat it, I'll be pleased.

Too bad, MoP is probably going to come out around that time frame most likely therefore GW2 will be released some other time. I could be wrong though, but it wouldn't be smart of ANet to go up directly against MoP. Also, unless you're part of Press, please refrain from saying you were part of anything that you signed an NDA form.

As a Guardian during the BWE, I had almost no trouble during WvWvW in melee combat. Our class has tons of toughness along with a lot of defensive skills to mitigate damage. Granted our ranged weapons are less than desired, we excel in melee combat. For example, I'd usually do Leap of faith in a group of invaders, hit binding blade and then if they try to run, pull them towards me and let loose whirling wrath for massive damage.

Yeah binding blade + whirling wrath is awesome. I wonder if you could binding blade -> switch to hammer and use the sign that prevents others from getting close/running away if you're caught in the effect -> switch to great sword and whirling wrath/other attacks for nice effect?

As far as the melee vs ranged issue- I played a warrior to level 16 and in PVE I used a rifle 80% of the time. The decent increase in damage from using a great sword wasn't worth taking 300x the amount of damage. I ended up playing my warrior like a ranger because unless you're fighting 1v1 with a mob, you end up taking too much damage if you're in melee range.

But in structured PVP, melee can be amazing. So I think it's a simple PVE balance issue.
I'm too stubborn and have the thought of a gun not being meant for a warrior in my mind and me not being effective as result. Kinda like a warrior being able to use a bow in GW1 but that not necessarily being a sane combo.

That, coupled with the fact that I find melee far more enjoyable than range in this game, makes me sad that range combat is far superior.

I think if they miss the summer, they would be doing themselves a disservice.

BTW, Arenanet has ponied up a LOT of dough for advertising in Gamestop for the month of May, including front window, outside placed posters (the posters you see on the windows of stores). That space is NOT cheap. Arenanet sure isn't Ubisoft, Activision or any other huge 3rd party that can afford to advertise months and months away from release (like, for example, Ubisoft/Assassin's Creed 3).

If it doesn't launch in June or July, I would be very surprised considering the money being shelled out.

Yeah. I agree that summer is the best time to release it, however, if things don't go well I can see them delaying their intended plan to release it to Q3/Q4, hence my November argument.

You're making assumptions. Please stop.

I'm not making assumptions. I'm saying if you're not part of press and signed an NDA you should not be making mentions. I never said you weren't. If you are please enlighten everyone so I won't have to repeat this for the past X amount of times.

Haha, thank goodness ANet has you to enforce their contracts for them. :)

I can't tell if you're serious. I'm not under contract or anything. I just don't want people getting banned and destroying themselves because they're saying stupid stuff.

Wait, you're serious about November? This game would get smoked in November.

I had this problem at first, but if you change up your tactics with a warrior to be more of a jump in, get a few hits, jump out style it works well. Especially with the mace in off-hand as your "5" ability is a ranged knockdown attack that hits multiple targets in a line.

The balance still was not ideal, it takes a more action focused approach with warrior. Much more dodging and circle strafing.

By other games? Yes. However, that time frame is the only time where the MMO players wouldn't get eaten by another MMO release. I could be wrong though.

No, I'm not being serious. Were you?

My explanation was serious. I guessed that you weren't, I just thought my actions needed clarification. ^_^

You sound like the ArenaNet policy enforcement police. We're all adults here. We don't need to be talked to like children. You don't know anything about anyone else's situation and whether or not they're bound by NDA. Stop making assumptions, please. If the person signed an NDA, they're well and able to make a decision on what they can and cannot say and be responsible for it. You don't know if they signed and NDA and they don't need to do some super secret handshake with you to keep you from slapping them on the hand. If you have a problem with something someone says, maybe you should PM them.

By the deluge of AAA that bombard gamers in November? One still has to pay $60 for the game. That's $60 competing with a ton of other "must have" games that will be hyped.

No, the argument of "This doesn't compete with other game since its a MMO" doesn't work. All of that money competes against each other. GW2 just wouldn't get off to the best start it could potentially by releasing that late. F2P or not after the initial buy, they still need people to jump in.

I think they could get away with August, but after that won't be ideal. I'm willing to bet Anet will be working their asses off to make summer. =) Especially so they can capitalize on the money being spent on advertising.

Exactly.

Any chance they'll let us carry on characters between Beta weekends? I know they'll wipe prior to launch, I'd just like to save some of the starter areas for characters I intend to keep and see some of the higher-level stuff without playing nonstop all weekend.

Did you completely ignored what I said? I never made an assumption. I was notifying you of the situation as is. As for being an enforcement police, I made my intentions quite clear a few posts back. If you ARE under NDA and do not have the ability to speak publicly, then I believe you're being irresponsible, hardly to even call yourself an adult.

EDIT: I'm not talking to you like a child, however, your actions warrant that you apparently be treated like one. If you're not willing to inform the users of the conditions of revealing you were in CBT then I wouldn't say anymore. However, you make the point to say you were in it and have nothing to back it up and spit on ANet's policy, that I have a problem with.

Are you referring to MoP? Because I don't think there is a release date?

I was referring to MoP yes. I know there isn't a release date but I don't think the game is going to come out in November. Most likely August - October time frame.

I think you're grossly overestimating the overlap of 'November gamers' and MMO players who buy one game (or expansion) per year, if that, and stick to it. And underestimating how much clout an MMO holds versus console games for player dollars.

kayos90, I think I'm speaking for quite a few people when I say your needless confrontations are getting pretty stupid.

NDA Wars 2.

GW2 wouldn't get merked into oblivion in November, but it would do a lot better if it came out before then.

I think it's fair to say that a game will have a better chance of success if there are not numerous high profile games released at the same time. For example, if you live, eat and breach COD, you might be willing to play GW2 over the summer, but fuck no you won't play in November.

Excuse me, that's trademark infringement on the Star Wars brand. Please stop doing that.

I asked the very same thing and all responses lead to no. Everything will be wiped with each bwe

I'm mainly concerned with the MMO audience when I talk about November though just to simplify things. If I took almost everything into consideration then meh...

I'm done with COD...for good. Actually pretty tired of FPS shooters all together.

I've been following this game for a bit, but I don't have a computer that can run it at the moment and I was busy this weekend anyway, so I didn't prepurchase.

How was the bow for the Warrior? From what I read I was thinking it'd be really cool to do some AoE stuff in big WvWvW battles, did anyone try that and did it work out well?

Can't tell if serious...

I am, sort of. I think they will want to announce a release date at least 3 months before the game comes out and if they are going to stick to 1 weekend per month for open testing I believe there should be at least 2 more tests before they can realistically say they've taken into account all feedback, fixed all balance issues, replaced placeholders and finished up all the content. A 6 months time frame for all of this doesn't sound too farfetched, so November (which is technically 6 months away) for me is still the worst case scenario, but doesn't seem implausible. June/July for example seem much more out of the question unless they ramp up the beta periods and there is more openness on what needs to be finished.

That sort of gives me a chance to test the waters out for other human character storylines such as deciding if I want to play between a street rat...or a noble.

I've finished the human commoner story and really enjoyed it!

How very pretentious of you.

It's all a conspiracy! The release date will be announced when the CE Rytlock Figures are all done and painted!!!

How very pretentious of you.

Honestly, what you've been saying and posting previous to these series of posts in the past threads are much more pretentious and additionally annoying. Also, I'll take your remark as a compliment for trying to actually care about this situation.

The AoE damage on the bow is pretty pathetic.

The bow sucked, I'm sorry to say. The rifle was SO MUCH better. There were some enemies with regenerating health that I could not kill with my bow unless I used my special attacks. They just regened health faster than my autoattack could kill. Had no such problem with the rifle, which was fairly powerful and my weapon of choice most times. Perhaps I just needed a stronger bow or something.

I really liked this weekends beta. Of course some things still need to change and be tweaked but overall one of the best betas Ive played, way better first impression than SWTOR or Tera. Only things I didnt like:

- Most personal story missions are unfair and need to be balanced. Theyre not hard, theyre just unfair and broken. That was my main and primary issue.
- Better tutorials, specially for professions and WvWvW
- Some dynamic events/WvWvW fights really feel chaotic and sometimes the best thing to do is just get a ranged weapon and spam attacks without thinking about a strategy.
- Id also like to see chat bubbles since I rarely read the chat box when Im not in a group of friends. I must have missed like 10 guys calling for help when they were in a downed state lol

But overall great experience!

Just a quick question here (actually asking on behalf of a friend) but does anyone thing ANet will take advantage of bit mapping or any advanced texturing methods?

My friend wasn't too impressed with the overall graphics of the game for some messed up reason. I personally LOVE the aesthetics etc but he's in the mindset that Rift looks better.

Edit: Sorry he likes the fact that zones look extremely different from each other, like in WoW, not that the graphics were better, but yeah, thanks KKRT00.

I was going to say that he's a technical graphics preferred user until I read WoW. Now I don't know...

I used the bow on the last day for WvWvW. We were attacking a fort, and it was pretty great. I would build up Rage on the door, or Guards, and then unleash the F1 move on the defenders shooting from the walls.

The 5-skill which pins people was awesome as well for any stragglers would would run from outside. I would pin them, then switch to my melee set (can't remember which i had, i think ax/sword, but it might have been sword/ax with savage leap) and charge at them wrecking thier face lol.
