Maybe the screen they cheaped out on is so fragile that they needed to put a protective layer on top of it before it even leaving the factory?What's the point of a permanently attached plastic screen protector?! Especially if there is glass under it which would scratch far less easily.
Its purpose is to prevent shards of glass from scattering in the rare event the screen is damaged. Nintendo knows that the Switch 2 is going to end in the hands of kids.
