Since were on the topic of Gotham, just how vital is this city? Would it be equivilent to as like the New York of America in analogy? I'm just trying to understand why LoA wants this city destroyed and why Batman only wants to save Gotham (aside from residing there)

Yeah it's probably the equivalent of a New York City in real world terms. Also I don't think Superman's Metropolis is canon here so yeah Gotham's probably the hub of America.

Yeah Gotham is the NYC of DC.
Metropolis is also like NYC
DC New York isn't as important etc as either of them or real world NY.

lol

In terms of atmosphere, Batman writer and editor Dennis O'Neil has said that, figuratively, "Batman's Gotham City is Manhattan below Fourteenth Street at eleven minutes past midnight on the coldest night in November."

The Christopher Nolan depiction of Gotham has featured distinct Chicago architecture and is cartographically based on the canon DC map of Gotham. Batman Begins features a CGI augmented version of Chicago while The Dark Knight more directly features Chicago infrastructure and architecture.

Frank Miller has referred to Gotham City as New York City after dark.

I like the idea of Gotham City being more art deco and to appear stuck in the 40's/50's like Batman TAS, while Metropolis has a more futuristic/clean look. You can still get these themes in a modern movie without going super crazy with them.

Flawless delivery.

Really? I thought it as cheesy. In fact, I found her to be the worst part of the trailer. :/

They are revealing the Design by Humans contest winners one at a time:

3rd place Selected by Christopher Nolan)

The other two will be unveiled tomorrow and Friday. Also chosen by Nolan

the third one would have been fine with just batman's face created by the shadows and lights of the building. the bat symbol was overkill.

I see they're still using the same Batman costume from the second movie, which is a shame, because it looks stupid. I was so happy with the way Batman looked in Begins, but it obviously wasn't comfortable or practical enough, so they had to change it to what we have now. The cowl looks dumb, I'm sorry. Batman would never have become the cool figure he is if he looked like that in the comic books.

I have other problems with the new trailer as well. I'm generally underwhelmed. Still seems like Nolan is trying to to make a sophisticated, shiny action film while trying to fit Batman into that mould, instead of just making a kickass Batman film.

You get the sense that everything actually Batman about the film is getting shoehorned in, and almost apologetically so. It's the Batman mythos stripped of its Gothic Romanticism, Batman for a new rational and technological age.

And I still think Anne Hathaway is a poor choice for Catwoman. Yes, there's a kind of catty resemblance, but there's really nothing remotely edgy or dangerous about her.

So...nothing positive?

At first I didnt get all the hate on Banes voice, but then I listened to this one headphones and yeah, sounds like its on a separate audio track. really bad.

Overall I am excited for the film but the trailer was kind of dull.

Don't know, hard to tell much about the actual story from the trailer.

I know I'm in the minority, one of the few who preferred Batman Begins to The Dark Knight. The Joker was cool, but otherwise the film left me pretty cold. This seems to be even further in that direction.

I'm still going to go see it obviously.

I haven't seen Begins in so long, but picked it up on Blu Ray recently. Seen TDK maybe 6, 7 times, Begins probably twice. Looking forward to watching then again before I see TDKR (which I think I'm seeing a week early or so, my dad has connections to Warner Brothers haha)

I honestly don't know what people want from Hathaway.

Based on the trailer, I think she's kicking a lot of ass with the catwoman character.

People call the acting cheesy, but I disagree. The acting is perfect for the role. Catwoman has always had a certain amount of cheese to the character's dialogue in past comics and past movies.

Then again, people have had a problem with catwoman and hathaway being in this film before the first trailer even released. I think people in general have a problem with female actresses in action roles.

They have a tougher job in impressing the male audience.

I was really not liking the idea of catwoman in this film at the start. I still have some reservations about it, but the newest trailer has convinced me that it wont be bad. How good she will be will obviously be decided when the film releases, but I am no longer worried about that aspect. Still undecided about "The Bat" but I assume it will be a small part of the film. Hopefully Nolan delivers, I have faith.

More like ever since she was announced to play the character. Internet folk just aren't big fans of Anne Hathaway. They need to see Rachel getting Married.

Hathaway with short hair would of been perfect..she looks exactly like certain versions of Selina from the comics with short hair.

She looks good with short hair actually.

(keep in mind she's playing a dying prostitute in this role, so she had to lose weight)

But I'm fine with the Catwoman we've seen so far, especially from the latest trailer. I expected worse.

I think that would of been perfect. But yeah, I have been surprised that I havnt cringed at any of the Catwoman footage. Between this and Prometheus, my hype meter is about to blow. This summer is a perfect mix of movies.

Absolutely irrelevant. So because Bane was 'BAAAANE' in Batman and Robin, it'd be fine for him to be portrayed like that in a Nolan film? Different styles/tones/themes warrent different portrayals of characters. Catwoman currently stands out in Nolan's universe.

I think this is absolutely incorrect. At the very least, this has nothing to do with what GAF is complaining about. Sarah Connor and Ripley fit snuggly into their respective films and people applauded it. Great characters are great characters regardless of gender.

Catwoman stands out in Nolan's universe? Batman has had a billion cheesy lines and a cheesy voice in the previous Nolan Batman movies. If you ask me, I think with all of the gritty crime stuff involving cops, mob bosses, gangs, and politicians that goes on in Nolan's movies, a guy who wears a Bat costume seems to be the character that stands out the most in Nolan's world.

Catwoman/Hathaway is fine in Nolan's universe. From the trailer clips I've seen, she plays Selina Kyle in a very elegant/classy yet threatening way. And just from the jail scene with hathaway in the normal trailers and the prologue montage, I can tell she'll be a bit of a loose cannon. Nothing about her takes away from Nolan's dark gritty themes.

Nolan's world might be dark and gritty, but all of the realism/grit/Shakespearian dialogue in the world won't hide the fact that the movie is still about a guy dressed as a bat and a girl dressed as a cat.

Anyways, Hathaway will probably pull off an amazing performance in this film. I'm calling it.

I love The Dark Knight, seen it like 10 times, masterpiece, but I like Begins more, and I have no idea why, maybe it's the mood.

Definitely the mood and feel and tone or whatever you want to call it was more classic Batman in Begins. Plenty of cool shots of Batman perched up high or with his cape blowing in the wind, Wayne Manor with the the piano that opens the secret door to the Batcave, Gotham City looking more like, well, Gotham City. It was much more comicbook inspired - some of the shots were ripped straight from Batman Year One, in fact.

It still had a slight Gothic feel, though not to the extent of the first few Burton films. Batman borrows as much from characters like Sherlock Holmes and even Dracula as it does from hard-boiled action and noir. Nolan has definitely abandoned some of the traditional influences, however, and I think the visuals in particular suffer as a result. I tend to think if you strip the heightened sense of drama and reality away and the stylized look of Batman and Gotham, it all starts to look a bit silly.

is my gullible latenight self being trolled here?
Hope not because that was the first thing I though. The building should have been out of commission for as long as Wayne Manor was.

Saw the 3rd trailer and am very excited now.

I thought the same thing but still loved the look of it.

The trailer was downgraded because they felt the need to add that snippet. It was going perfect until then (Plus I could understand Bane pretty easily).

Yeah, as it stands right now the two things Ive seen about TDKR that I really don't like are the football scene and the Batwing. Both feel completely out of place in the universe established in the first two films.
