AMAZING movie. The pacing was great and they gave each character enough story and time to develop and interact with each other. The action was pretty much amazing as well and had a good sense of humor that never really seemed out of place.

Also that
Hulk smashing Loki scene was fucking amazing in so many ways

dat catharsis

Amazing movie, absolutely loved it.

The Avengers really balanced its characters well. I thought RDJ was going to steal basically every scene he was in, but they let the other characters get in some nice lines. Also I thought Black Widow wasn't going to be focused on, but they did a great job of including her as well.

What a fun movie! It was really quite awesome seeing all these superheroes together.

Hulk stole the show. I really really hope that Ruff gets to star in at least one solo film.

My entire theater was in hysterics at Hulk demolishing loki. So fucking good.

The only thing I regret about seeing The Avengers is seeing The Avengers so late that I can't sleep because of all the fucking hype..I must see this again soon.

Best superhero movie ever. I think Dark Knight Rises will have its work cut out for it for me to like it more than avengers. Hulk was just super awesome. I sat through all 5 movies at the theater today. Just a great ride.

The Avengers was AMAZING.

I have a quick question about thor(film) though.

My gf and I were arguing about Odin, thors father. She claims that odin died which is why thor took over. I disagree'd with her, however, I have no way of backing it up bc the comics isnt the same as the movie. So, is there anyone that can confirm this? or explain (with sources?) please. Thank you.
He doesn't die.

Loved Norton but Ruffalo is pretty much the best Hulk and he knows how to deliver his lines

"Thats the secret, I'm always angry."

He blew me away, really. Even after being pre-hyped on how great he was.

But perhaps the greatest feat this movie accomplished was turning me around on Black Widow.

Yeah. Fuck it. I don't care. After seeing this, I think Nolan's style is going to bore me to tears. Oh well. Outstanding Marvel Studios. Outfuckingstanding.

I don't know if i'd say that, but it's definitely up there in the top 5 if not top 3.

Oh and
I hope you're right, but I highly doubt it.. By his own doing, or by Fury's? If the latter, even Maria Hill wouldn't be in on it?
I doubt it.
(major spoilers obviously)
This has been in the works for a long while, I think, since the very beginning. He is one of the only—hell, THE only character that sticks around and has no comic book character counterpart, such as Fury or Maria or Potts etc. There's been a reason for that. They included him this whole time so we would get accustomed to the character, only to be able to kill him off in the Avengers as something unexpected since he has no comic plot line path they need to follow or stay loyal to.

That's my theory, anyway.

Coulson's just been added to the comics. I swear I've heard about him appearing in future movies so there is something fishy about his 'death'.

Hulk stole the movie. Joss knocking movies out of the park left and right.

Destroying Loki and punching out Thor....sooooo gooodddddd

The only let down was
Captain getting pushed back by a nameless thug with a machine gun and then you got Hawk taking out a guy without looking -_-

My favorite part about the after credits scene:
OMG it looks EXACTLY like Thanos from the comics
:D :D :D

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to have a boy right now, aged to 10 years old, just so I can take him to see this movie so that he could shit his pants at the absolute amazing that went on. This movie is a dream come true. A REAL COMIC BOOK BROUGHT TO LIFE.

The most fun I have had in a theater in a while.

Unfortunately yeah. I don't want any more dark brooding superhero movies for a while. I just want more pure Avengers-style FUN. That's what it's all about for me.

Just got home. I seriously cannot comprehend how well it all turned out. I am astounded and just so god damn happy. I'm gushing with love for all things comic books and I truly believe everything has led up to this point. All the shit adaptations, train wreck casting choices and horrible directors, all the plain old bad comic book movies just don't matter anymore. If they were necessary evils in order to bring us this godsend of a movie, so be it. I feel like this genre is finally vindicated and nothing else that the other studios put out will cut it unless they can get their shit together.

It really did bring to life all my hopes and dreams of comic books ever since I was a little kid. This film is historic and for me, an amazing pay-off after almost two decades of my life absolutely WORSHIPPING The Avengers. It's perfect.

As much as i loved this damn movie, I feel like it's not one of those movies that will be awesome to watch again right after seeing it.

Some of the best stuff were things that we didn't think were going to happen but we wanted to happen.....but knowing its going to happen makes alot of those best parts lose its appeal.

I think this one is to be savored after the first viewing and to relish it until DAT BLU RAY

Saw it last night at a premiere session, unfortunately 3D.

I liked it a lot. It juggles so many great and different super heroes with such ease that it is almost embarrassing. A lot of great humor packed into a lot of the scenes too.

Not a huge fan of the Captain's headpiece, neither did the Iron Man Mk VII bring anything new to the table. Hawkeye felt underdeveloped, but the sum of all the parts is greater than all of them alone.

Ruffalo is a fantastic Banner, but the Hulk in this one seemed a bit... pudgy? But then again, it worked just as well. His action scenes were crazy.

Oh, and the whole thing was worth the ticket price and agonizing neck pain just for the after-credits scene alone.

Sound was too low in my theater. :( That made me focus that much more on the movie, though. I gotta watch it again, it was shit-my-pants awesome.

Hulk is the fucking shit. I love how he looks like the actor who portrays him. He did a great job, definitely my favorite Avenger. He needs to fuck even MORE shit up next time.

Dude, I can't even imagine being a kid and seeing that movie. It has EVERYTHING you could want and more. The panning shots showcasing each Avenger during the end fight is just too much. You want to just thrust your fist in the air and yell out "FUCK YES." The only negative I can think of is that there is no way they will be able to top this.

I need to see this shit in IMAX with louder sound. Is the 3d OK?

Just got back. I really enjoyed it. There are a lot of moments where the film straddles outside the typical comic book formula and really goes for broke. Those are definitely the most memorable moments, for sure, and everyone who sees the film probably will agree on what they are. They did a god service to just about every character, although there are times where it felt like they were holding back for other films (Black Widow / Hawkeye are fleshed out, but there were times where it felt like they held back to tell their history some other time, other moments like that).

The action for the most part was really go for broke with the money shots. The movie wil lget a lot of repeat business just so the audience can go back and catch them all and soak them in. There were other times though, specifically a moment where
Thor & Loki are punching each other on top of Stark Tower
where I literally could not see what was going on. I'm talking like worse than a Bourne clone's deleted scenes. The scene was total gibberish. It was like 8 seconds though, but it wasn't the only time that happened, thought that was exceptionally weird how the action direction was so elastic from shakycam one moment to full on one take 30 second long money shot after money shot.

The interactions between the 4 leads were on point. Very well done, even if the second half could've been far beefier. Maybe it's a case of me just wanting more, but somewhere in the second act it went from "alright we got a lot of conflict here, I like where this is going" to just being resolved. Not in a bad manner, but the pacing of the film just carried it a little too quick into the 3rd act.

The opening was a little rough, and there are patches of typical Marvel reservedness where the film should've been more free and unpredictable. For the first time thoguh in any of these Marvel movies, those moments are outweighed by some sheer fanservice glee. Hulk in particularly gets an unbelievable, totally deserved scene in the climax that almost makes the whole movie, the whole damn franchise, worth it by itself. It's unrelenting, unbelievable and will have people in the theater clapping.

Hulk totally delivered too. Ruffalo really found the Bruce Banner audiences are looking for. His acting just about outclassed everyone, even in rudimentary scenes. Really look forward to him getting his own solo movies.

I'm getting a little long winded, so I'll just skip to the ost glaring thing about the movie. I really like Loki as a character on paper. His motivations, his dialogue, Hiddelston's acting, these things are for the most part pretty workable across both Thor and Avengers. However, this guy has been the villain of two movies and I still have no idea what the limits are to his powers. Dude almost seem capable of anything at times and its never really explained why. There is a lot of shit these movies over explain, but I don't think anyone's ever taken the time to really explain what this guy can't do. Again, the guy has been the villain of two movies and I, a dude who probably thinks about and pays attention to this stuff more than an average moviegoer, still don't really understand his physical capabilities. Thor's got kind of the same issue with me too, but at some point they stopped adding shit he could do whereas if we see Loki again, I feel like they could just introduce shit casually in any situation. Things lose tension that way.

and yea, the villains/army of this film are very much on the edges of the film. This is part of the Marvel reservedness, where the film fell into the typical origin story narrative beats instead of going for broke with a real threat. Loki was very good, but the film could've used more oomph, especially in the 3rd act where a more impactful villain could've upped the stakes. The army is essentially cannon fodder, beginning to end and while that leaves room for the heroes to strut, you rarely felt there was a showdown where two distinct conflicting entities came to a head (outside of
Thor and Loki
). That lack of villain meat in the film holds it back from all time status for me.

That all said, this is still the film the 5 other films were made for. It's fun, swift, engaging, mostly surprising and fairly refreshing after the formula showed signs of wear in Thor & Captain America. Probably the best of the bunch really and more than likely to entertain those unimpressed with the others. Can't really say it's all time status, but it's definitely Marvel's first legitimate shot at it. If they play more loose with the stories now that all of the origin stories are out of the way, they could really knock one out of the park. Right now I'm feeling about 8.5/10 about it, may catch it again before it's theatrical run is out.

True. Props to Joss in the director's chair as well. Just deft.

It's fine. Subtle. Didn't add anything but whatever.

The 3D is neither bad nor great. It was subtle for the most part, the way I like most 3D films. I didn't feel like it ever detracted from the film, but I don't think it's necessary unless you absolutely want to see it in 3D. That's just my first opinion after a first watch in IMAX 3D. I'll see it again in 2D tomorrow to see how it really compares.

I just finished watching this in IMAX. I'm not traditionally an action kind of guy, but damn that was fun! Captain America (who is my favorite due to dat origin story and heart) was a little lame, but Hulk's pure smahsness made up for any minor shortcomings in the film. I'll probably have to re-watch it once or twice in theaters just to soak everything in. And I'll definitely pick up the 3D Blu-ray when that's released.

This is going to be an amazing summer of blockbuster movies.

How come the heroes know that Hulk is called Hulk? Everyone was calling it "the other guy" for a while, then it became "Hulk".

Here's one thing about the 3D.

I missed the best time to get a ticket so I had to sit in the second row. The 3D was tolerable for the most part, but where it got really unbearable was the battle scene with the tiny alien speeders flying all over. Then it felt like something was cutting into my optical nerve. Otherwise it worked.

Surprisingly, Hawkeye had some pretty good moments, but his standout BOSS moment was the
shooting the arrow at the ship behind him without even turning around and looking
