So the first rule of deck building is that fog effects and life gain are bad, right? So I decided to try to build a deck that does just that. Inspired by Sinatar's turbofog deck from a couple pages back, I give you my terribad Chalice of Life deck:

BDhwr.png

As you might expect, it doesn't run so well. I played five single games, and only won one. It kinda feels like it has potential though. If I had been willing to spend more than just a couple of bucks on a wad of cheap cards (including some for another silly deck I'm working on) I could have picked up Day of Judgement, which would have made a huge difference. And a better mana base would have been huge too.

But I tell you what. Having four Chalices of Death feels really good.

What the hell did I just watch?

There's an O-Ring on an O-Ring. Dude plays a 3rd O-Ring on LSV's creature but LSV doom blades it so the only legal target is the original O-Ring. O-Ring removes O-Ring bringing back first O-Ring which then has to O-Ring the O-Ring and so on.

That was a terrible explanation, sorry. I don't think there is a non-confusing way to describe that lol

Because the board is so empty each time the narrator uses removal on his own permanents the opponent's O-ring has no choice but to target the other O-ring. Once you hit three then you have an infinite loop caused by them constantly entering and leaving play.

:lol That's pretty funny. So there was no point in using the doom blade besides making it loop?

Haha, that is fantastic. Also what a terrible opponent, playing that second Ring intending to remove the Spellbomb.

It happens to the best of us. Especially on MODO. Today in cube, I played Treachery on my opponents creature. I then proceeded to equip it with a Sword of Body and Mind...

Yeah...

:lol It's been so long since I've seen that sword used that I would probably do the same thing without thinking.

Edit: FNM version of Oring is pretty awesome looking too, I'm starting to get the feeling I should pimp out my decks. :(

I'm ultron87 on MTGO and Steam as well (and pretty much everywhere). Right now I'm only play with the Planeswalker cards, but I might be convinced to throw a Standard deck together if everyone is doing it.

As with everything, I'm divisionbyzorro on MTGO.

I should probably put together a serious deck at some point. :)

I should also set a weekly budget or this is going to go south real quick.

Completely unrelated to the paper version but how the hell do you beat Chandra round 2 in the singleplayer camp. of DotP09? I have four decks unlocked but mono red, mono green, mono white, mono blue can't touch her due to her quicker and more lucky ability of getting creatures out faster. UGH.

In 09 I got all the way to Bolas with mono-green. The computer cheats often with ridiculous top-decking so luck plays a factor on your side.

I just eat her pretty easily with "Thoughts of Wind", mono green ramp is good also.

Do it.

MTGO - WanderingWind
Steam - WanderingWind

I am a unique fucking snowflake.

Oh you are.... Just not for the reasons you're thinking ;p

I'd do MtG:O if it wasn't a huge fucking money pit like the real card game. ;__;

I know mono green should be possible to kill her with. But it seems the base game on PSN has all her expansion cards included which makes the campaign fucking insane. She pulled a card that discards lands and went about discarding lands she didn't need anymore to kill me faster than my 1/1 flying creature could kill her when I started to have a life lead with mono-blue. It pissed me off and the others aren't much better.

I've got like:

Red: 6/17
White: 7/17
Green: 6/17
Blue: 0/17

Unlocked so far. Maybe I need to grind card unlocks. :/

Grinding definitely helps. I'd grind green, you can plow through pretty easily unless you make a bad move or don't mulligan a bad hand.

Oh, god. I have issues with that.

G, G, G, GiantGrowth(G), 4/4creaturewith(3GG), Overrun, Overrun.

"Well, surely, I can get another land and a bear within two turns..."

NOPE. Prepare your anus for 15 damage before you can get into action. :/

Well you have to know when to mulligan. :p

Man, Invasion was 2001? I feel so old. I started to play in like 1999 or 2000 so I think shortly after they did the rule changes (but I think I still have Interrupt cards around here). Reading this archive of people flipping out over the rule changes is crazy in retrospect.

An AMA of a Level 5 judge at reddit's Magic subreddit linked me there, BTW.

I'm thinking of making a Boros humans deck, and only considering cards that will survive SoM block rotation. Some ideas:

One Drop
:
Champion of the Parish
Doomed Traveler
Grim Lavalancer
Gideon's Lawkeeper

Two Drop:
Lightning Mauler
Stormblood Berserker
Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
Gather the Townsfolk

Three Drop:
Fiend Hunter
Silverblade Paladin
Kessig Malcontent

The deck is probably too weak without support from SoM block. Hmm...

Where's your Kessig Malcontents? Also, Gather the Townsfolk is great.

Those are some pretty good options. I'll add them to the list. I still feel that the deck might not be up to par, however.

Though I do feel that Kessig Malcontents + Silverblade Paladin can be some good times.

Did the midnight draft even though I said I wouldn't. So far, at least for me, it seems like red/green human aggro is the best bombless draft archetype. I played red/white and went 2-1. Didn't really get any bombs but the games I won were almost exclusively because of 2 and 3 drop soulbond red creatures. Being able to swing for 9 or 10 on turn 4 is pretty disgusting, especially when red has some of the best weenie killing removal.

I'm sure things will change going forward but I'm excited to try and force red/green to see how much damage it can really do.

Went to the midnight release of Avacyn Restored. Got Cavern of Souls, Vexing Devil, ones that I really wanted. Got 2 Griselbrand. So useless! Temporal Mastery is not bad if I can miracle it. I don't see a use for Entreat the Angels until mid to late game and only if you miracle it. Got Primal Surge. Might put it in my EDH deck. Totally forgot about silverblade paladin. Need to get him.

You still need some sort of global pump to make it decent, or minimally a magical christmasland style situation where you're repeatedly going t1 champion t2 gather g3 malcontents t4 cloudshift the malcontents a few times for a win. :P It's still FNM competitive though. Also, Angel of Jubilation ends games.

Elite Inquisitor is a very underrated two drop.

I want to buy a box, but it's such a bad idea :(

It is a very bad idea.
That being said, I can not wait to pick my boxes up today lol.
The pain comes after the opening when you realize that the boxes never lives up to the boxes in your mind.
Looks like we are doing a box draft for release day event on Saturday (draft and the prize is a box)

Griselbrand is actually rather hot and will stay that way, he is a great re-animator target with an immediate impact.
Entreat the Angels is like an 18 dollar card right now, it can be broken.

So....found a seller who has the full playsets of Black Lotus, dual lands and a ton of the Alpha-Beta power cards. Like, 4 time walks.

I'm about to piss the wife off really, really badly.

You really shouldn't, though. It's plastic cards. Some are expansives but still tolerable for a non-competitive hobby. Black Lotus/Power 9/Alpha Beta is just an irrational huge waste of money. And even then they allow proxies of those at tournaments generally.

You could probably get alot more of fun out of boosters boxes that would cost you the rough equivalent of a small couple of these cards.

Don't they allow proxies only if you own the cards and have them off to the side? So you don't have to risk damaging them by shuffling them?

Loyal Cathar!

Snagging two boxes today. Can't wait.
