PRICE: $19.99
RELEASE DATE: TBD

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

‘ORION: Prelude’ is a fast-paced Sci-Fi First-Person-Shooter. It features a retro-vibe, addictive gameplay and insanely awesome features such as jetpacks, dinosaurs and vehicular combat.

‘ORION: Prelude’ pays homage to other classics that we grew up on that entertained us as gamers as well as inspired us as developers. You will see inspiration from classics such as the Unreal Tournament series, Quake 2 CTF, Starsiege: Tribes, early Counter-Strike betas and plenty of our own unique takes and twists in the design and mechanics. With only a first glance at ORION: Prelude, you will know that this is a game being made by gamers.

ORION: Prelude will have a TON of content and a large feature set. We’ve stepped up on the technology front and ORION: Prelude will now be powered by the Unreal 3 technology. We have also announced that the DLC for ORION: Prelude will be plentiful - and FREE!

Looks like it might be fun I'll probably pick it up once it hits Steam, "Dino Beatdown" is a bit of silly name though.

So many colors. The pop-in is pretty nasty, I hope there is a patch/mod to improve that after release, but I can accept that over brown and grey.

Open-world co-op dinosaur hunting with jetpacks and mechs sounds like a winning combination to me. Any word of a demo?

Are there even multiplayer communities on Onlive? Having the playerbase split is one of my major problems with it.

The game looks pretty decent. Hope it's successful for them.

It's cheap enough so I likely will look into it.

Though looking forward to more of the Dinos being added soon.

I thought this said "The Onion" and I thought it looked pretty good for a fake. When I realized it was real I got a little excited. Looks kind of cool. I'd buy a good dinosaur game.

I want to point out these guys have a rather dubious reputation. One of the reasons I stopped posting their stuff is because of some shady stuff that went on behind the scenes.

Oh wow, not that this kind of stuff is unheard off but it still a damn shame

They also can't take criticism of any kind on their forums. Like if someone says something even remotely negative sounding, they get banned for being a troll. Support Primal Carnage instead.

I remember seeing some pretty damning stuff regarding plagiarism in this game. I wonder if they took it out yet.
When the game comes out we shall see if the stuff from Primal Carnage and Natural Selection 2 is still in there. Better yet, we might find other games that had their stuff stolen.

Could be this years Limbo of the Lost.

We had one of their PR people or the CEO right here on Gaf. But evilore banned him because he just continuously posted PR crap like 10 posts in a row.

With that said, not buying a game because the CEO is a POS is somewhat understandable.

Honestly I don't care as much about the personal relationships behind the game as I do the fact that it's obviously gone through extremely troubled development over many years and will probably end up being utter shit.

So, a bit like a sci-fi Left4Dead with dinos?

Sounds like it's potentially worth checking out then, a far cry from its initial generic team vs team with some dino extras stages.

Edit: trailer doesn't inspire confidence, looks very much like an UT mod...

The game seems to run fine...but god damn.
Some of those textures are awful.
The achievements are bugged. I killed a raptor and got the "Who Needs Teammates" achievement (kill a T-rex by yourself).
I can't seem to connect to any servers.
It doesn't feel like I'm using a jetpack, just using noclip. So no feedback when using it.
The AI isn't the greatest either.

Maybe I just need to give it more time...

Edit: Apparently there's a patch coming in on Monday to fix some problems, but none of the problems I listed.

Are dinosaur games just destined to be shitty? :(

That game's title made me think of a dino fighting game a la Primal Rage at first.

EDIT: Beaten to the bones...good god GAF, sometimes. XD

edit: heres an older comparison of dino models previously. Primal carnage model lightly retooled for orion.

Also, heres a comparison of the armory model from Natural Selection 2 to Orion which was noted at STILL being in the game (it was in the PAX build). Someone needs to confirm if its in the retail build.

edit 2: lets have some achievements as well. Some acceptable, some not.
