Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006. It is now 2012. These are facts.

If this game is perhaps a year or so off now surely S-E will preview it at E3 simply to market it to a western audience. No one in the west cares about Dragon Quest - especially one that is an MMO on dead/untested platforms.

What do you mean by it's own thing?

Just calling it XV? I guess it's possible but I really doubt this happens.

Removing it from the FNC? Really doubtful when they didn't even do what with Agito/Type.

It's definitely possible. Games with long dev times like this one go through lots of storyboard and script revisions/rehauls, they might have intended for it to be in the FNC universe but as time goes by they could also have went a different route, seeing as there's hardly any info, and especially all the vague answers to questions lately I'd say it's hard to know the exact state of the game at this point.

From a PR perspective if this was the intention though they'd have just stopped commenting on it entirely and do a 're-announce'. The fact Nomura is still talking about "Versus" and calling it Versus - even in passing during interviews for KH3D and the like - indicates it still is what it was.

Expect Square Enix's E3 to be very Tomb Raider/Hitman/Thief focused, with a handful of handheld titles and a push on the FF14 PS3/2.0. Traditionally they do three 'big' games plus handheld stuff, and I expect that to continue this year, really.

True. I forgot about Eidos. Wouldn't bet on Thief being there in much capacity though.

Thief is a guess, really, but I don't expect them to show any AAA HD titles from Japan at E3 this year, which'll be a really big step for the company.

Not including Wii U in that prediction, so DQX could be shown, as could WiiU ports of existing AAA titles, I guess.

I still remain hopeful. I mean this game couldn't possibly miss an entire generation could it? What with Durango/PS4 aiming for Holiday season 2013.

Eh, I'd say that Versus is going to come out before the next gen, I just don't think it'll be at E3. The game's a bit of a development disaster at this point; not putting it out would be worse than putting it out even if it sucked, I think.

SE Japan really shit the bed this gen.

We will probably see their AAA Japan titles announced at the Tokyo Game Show. Count on that.

or its planned for Sony or MS's conference? I wouldn't hold my breath though.

The more interesting thing is that FFXIV is missing from there, which is a game I though SE would want to push.

Hmm, that could be a bad sign. It was more or less said that there would be a new trailer for E3 and large amount of information on the "2.0" relaunch.

Nomura said:
We would like to ask for your patience on an official announcement for this title. It always takes time when tackling the challenge of doing something completely new, but we are doing our best to bring information to the fans as quickly as we can.

Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Doesn't sound good for coming out anytime soon.

This is me right now after reading that news

Man, I remember buying a PS3 just for this and MGS4.. while I was happy with MGS4, it seems like we won't see this on PS3

I wonder if the next Deus Ex game will come out before versus does? That'd be incredibly funny and yet sad to think about when you think that was a studio created during the games development and then releasing two titles...

We will, but it'll be far too late to care.

The whole FF13 Crystal dubbing thing has been an outright disaster. What the fuck is going on at Square?

I got the same list, but you all should have expected this to happen anyway.

I know it's a win for you and loss for me but in reality, it's a loss for all of us, if you know what I mean. :p

Kagari - do you know if SE is booking demos/interviews for any TBA titles, like they were for KH3D in 2010? Or is it too early to know?

I haven't heard anything yet... sometimes stuff can be added up to two weeks before the showw, but Versus is 99.9999% certain not to show.

FFXIV should have a new trailer as Yoshida-san already mentioned they'd show a new one at E3.

Trust me, I want to see the game revealed as much as the next person ;-; It'll have been 6 years from the announcement exactly in a couple days here.

FFXIV is probably trailer only.

Yeah hopefully there'll be a trailer that will fully show off the 2.0 version. I get why they can't do playble demos of that, but a nice trailer would be great. I wonder if Sony gives them a spot during their conference or will they have to stream it in their booths.

The game is in full development for about 3/4 of a year. Give it time...I know that might seem harsh to say but really think of Versus as a game that was just announced last year at the SE conference as that is about the time when real work started on the title. I know it doesn't excuse SE for their over eagerness with the announcement of Versus or handling the announcement (like they could have said, we have this thing called FNC. FFXIII will be our first title but we'll also include other titles in the saga and here's two concept trailers for those two games) but it helps to deal with the waiting.

Also Nomura said that next time he talks Versus he wants there to be a playable demo sort-of-event. So I'd expect a custom SE conference (kinda like what they did with DQX last year)

I feel so much rage and pain that for the very first time since E3 2006............ I stopped caring about the game.

If they didn't show it this E3 then I'm assuming it won't hit Japan in Holidays 2012 and the Western world in spring 2013.

At this rate it might me Fall 2013.

PS2 era was golden too. :(

Half golden actually. 1/4 of the PS2 era was Squaresoft and they made awesome stuff (FFX and KH1 to name a notable few), 3/4 was SE era and half of the stuff they made were good and half the stuff they made were subpar.

oh square... if only we could go back to the golden ps1 era.

Whole-heartedly agree with this. Square had so many amazing games during and leading up to that era. Then it all seemed to go downhill after key/important people left and everything went to shit. It honestly disheartens me that they're treating Versus like an unwanted step child when it should be the forerunner for their RPGs...

XIII and XIII-2 were a joke IMO and the fact that XIII-2 was announced, finished AND released before Versus is an insult to the fans. If they're smart they'll at least show it at TGS with a full press disclosure and a solid release date for early next year.

FFX, FFXI, Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2, Dragon Quest VIII.

Yes it was.

Terrible with the exception of Auron.
lol MMO doesn't count.
Uh... okaygirllooksdisgusted.jpg If you want to enjoy a convoluted story with homoerotica you might as well go whole hog with MGS.
...Mayyyyybe. But no one cares about DQ in the West, so uh... your point?

FFXII is still the only "classic" Square made in the past decade, as far as I'm concerned. Anything else has been tolerable to plain bad.

does dragon quest VIII really count?

i mean ps1 era- THREE mainline final fantasies, xenogears, vagrant story, parasite eve, final fantasy tactics, etc.

used to be that if square's name was on the box, i could rest assured that the game would at least be decent, but most likely awesome. ps2 era had classics, but not as many.
