Joss Whedon sucks
Joss Whedon sucks.
Joss Whedon is a terrible director and hack writer.

Joss Whedon sucks.
Plus, Joss Whedon sucks.
Pretty much all that needs to be said. And the first post too.
I don't know who Joss Whedon is, but judging from the lines in the Avengers trailers, the script sucks hence the movie will suck.
Also whedon sucks

Really enjoyed Avengers last night. I wouldn't put it in the same class as Nolan's Batman movies though. It was fun, it wasn't outstanding. Definitely showed that a limited amount of Hulk is infinitely more appealing than an entire movie dedicated to The Hulk.

Or as someone else said, I think DM, that Whedon's stellar work on Avengers does not suddenly make all of his previous shit solid gold.

That's a less-nice way of putting it, but yeah. But going forward I have no choice but to give him the benefit of the doubt.

:lol

Don't get me wrong, that olive branch is only extended so long as he keeps delivering. I will retract it if he does another crappy show.

dollhouse should have been enough to put him in director jail for the rest of his life

But yeah, after CITW and Avengers, I cant blindly hate anymore :(

None of those quotes said it wasn't going to make money. They said that TDKR will stomp Avengers' gross in the long-term. Which is yet to be seen.

Dude, most of those quotes were saying that Avengers was going to be lucky if it made it to 600 million WW. It already passed that. Crow was eaten and there is no way to spin it.

5 avengers/heroes.
You have to divide the results by 5 to compare it to other movies.
120 million/hero ain't nothing

I kind of want a more comic book batman now that Nolan is done. I don't mean Batman and Robin but Nolan's movies are almost sterile in its representation of Batman as both a detective and superhero. Bale doesn't seem larger than life. He's just Christian Bale dressing up in a cool Batman suit. How do you do this? I have no idea. But if I were getting paid millions to make it work I'd definitely give it some more thought :P

I think the style of the Animated Series is the perfect vehicle for the next Batman movies.

LOL at people doubting the Avengers would rake in the dough. This thread is gonna be even more hilarious once DKR comes out.

Even though I'm a huge Joss Whedon fan, I have to eat some crow. When I saw this thread, I thought no contest. Now not only is it a contest, it's a full out battle royal.

Embrace the detective in "World's Greatest Detective". Give him some great mystery to unravel to thwart the villain's schemes, while jumping across rooftops and battling minions and using crazy gadgetry. No origin retelling; just Batman as the modern day Sherlock Holmes in a colorful caper of supervillain intrigue.

I dunno which moment will bring bigger meltdowns, when TDKR opens or when the final tally of BO figures is reached for both movies.

My predictions. Lots of meltdowns when most likely TDKR will have a more than 180 million but less than 200 million opening weekend but less meltdown when TDKR will have a bigger final tally.

I was rooting for The Avengers to be a success but I didn't even think it was capable of this.

Avengers figures won't be final until the end of August. Still needs to open in Japan. lol

DKR will do good in the box office, don't get me wrong. But it's not gonna beat the Avengers.

I think ur right. It will have a smaller opening but longer legs. The movie which will suffer is Spiderman which will be affected by Superhero fatigue and DKR mania

oh man this thread hahaha

Really enjoyable read on a MOnday. So much crow being served :)

Just a sample of some choice quotes:

:lol
Love these.

Batman and Avengers occupy two different areas of my mind. Avengers is the perfect true comic book movie. It's embodies the lightness of the comics perfectly and elevates a lot of it as well. Nolans Batman is a crime drama. The acting, pacing, and music is superb. I cheer and laugh for Avengers and I hold my breath and shake in Batman. That all being said I think it's unlikely DKR beats Avengers at the box office.

Same here. The 2 franchises are on the opposite side of the comic book movie spectrum, and it works out great for fans.

Haven't paid to see a Marvel superhero movie since Spiderman 3.
Wasn't at all enticed by the trailers of Avengers.
Whedon sucks I guess.
Can't wait for Dark Knight Rises.

Fairly convinced of this as well. DKR = Somewhere around 500 million or so, Avengers is gonna be closer to 600 million.

WB can't pin this on Nolan though so much as their own inability to recognize the demand there for these team ups.

Not even close, DKR might win by >$500 million ww. Marvel's movies aren't even on the same level as Batman.

Welp, that was embarrassing.

Strangely enough, I've always been a Marvel fan over DC...but I never thought that Avengers would work as well as it has. Congrats to Marvel studios on their long term planning.

I was definitely off and concede defeat. No one I knew was even talking about Avengers until that Friday. Then I was getting texts inviting me to come (Didn't get to go) and the lines were huge.

I feel a strong urge to do an avatar quote here. I can't remember if that's still allowed.

I don't think many people thought that Avengers would beat TDKR for overall gross. Some did, but it seemed to be the general consensus on GAF that TDKR would win the overall game. But there were tons of people shitting on Avengers before it came out, and then it just comes along and curb stomps the opening weekend record.

But don't worry, if TDKR does not break the opening record, there will be spin to try and make it seem bigger than it was.

Now, if TDKR does not actually do better overall than Avengers, it will be meltdown city on GAF. But that is a big IF.

Fuck, I'd just love it if another movie swept in and beat both Avengers and TDKR. I wish Prometheus was capable of that.

Great opening for Avengers. I have no interest in it unlike Batman so I hope Batman comes along and beats Avengers out.

I do wonder what the surprise hit of the summer will be. Much like The Hangover a few years ago (which was HUGE and out of nowhere) or Bridesmaids last summer (still big, but not as big.)

I doubt it will, cuz of 3D. But it was interesting that when I saw the avengers last night (good-great movie, but a little cheeseball and quippy at times for it's own good), the line for 2D was HUGE vs the 3D line. I could just be a ticket price thing, I don't know. The movie, IME, really didn't sell the 3D aspect much so maybe people didn't care to begin with.

I'm baffled as to how people say "I didn't even think Avengers would do that well."

Are you guys serious? Thor+Ironman+Captain America and the fucking Hulk? That's jackpot movie potential/money printer.

Don't worry, Big Willy got this one. He's the true king of the summer!

Men_In_Black_III.jpg

I'm still not sure whether or not this will be that huge of a hit.

Is Will Smith still relevant?
Is MIB still relevant?

Do people care about either anymore?

I won't like, I do want to see it.
