Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006. It is now 2012. These are facts.

Terrible with the exception of Auron.
lol MMO doesn't count.
Uh... okaygirllooksdisgusted.jpg If you want to enjoy a convoluted story with homoerotica you might as well go whole hog with MGS.
...Mayyyyybe. But no one cares about DQ in the West, so uh... your point?

FFXII is still the only "classic" Square made in the past decade, as far as I'm concerned. Anything else has been tolerable to plain bad.

Fuck, this post hurt my brain. Don't do that again please.

I will laugh so hard the day this game comes out and turns out to be awful because they had to rush this shit out the door.

FFXIII-2 didn't bomb as far as I could tell. I suspect they didn't expect main series sells for a spin-off.

Comparison to X-2 puts XIII-2 way behind. So yeah, bomb.

I have a feeling this game is going to be FFXV with a slight change in the battle system but heh, who knows.

I don't think so. Nomura is ridiculously stubborn and has a hard time letting his "vision" get changed, at least based on things I've heard about the guy.

SE can go fuck themselves. Just show a fucking trailer, it's not that hard. You might even get some credibility back.

And for real Nomura? This is you guys trying your best to get info out as fast as possible? Not a single piece of news since last January.

Well that's soured my afternoon.

This game is one for the history books. I can only hope a good journalist does a post-mortem when this is finally released. The true story behind its development could make for a fascinating read.

Let's hope S-E have learnt their lesson with XIV and a protracting Versus' development to ensure they have a winner. Or maybe they've delayed it until next-gen.

KH2 was actually fun game and many people enjoy it more than KH1.
FFXI is the most profitable FF game ever, an MMO that still has around 500 000 subsribers and a very loyal following.
DQ8 actually did very well in the West and is kinda the opening to the world of DQ for most of the players. So...your point?

Also FFXII is anything but 'classic FF'. It's a great game, just not a Final Fantasy.

The ps2 was the golden era for KH, not FF. Only FFXII was good. X was shit, and XI being an MMO turned off the majority of the fanbase. Also, the huge wait between FFX and FFXII. FF's golden era was ps1, no doubt about it.

800K in Japan.
400K in the US.
Don't have European numbers but they can't be too far off of the USA number.

What's the PS3 and 360 breakdown for XIII-2 in the US?

Pretty sure XIII-2 will reach Greatest Hits though.

I hope 13versus gets renamed and released as its own game. Square needs to stop milking the series and put out something that can stand and grow on its own.

this can't be for real, what the heck is taking them so long?it's been 6 years and the generation is already over

back then we thought "oh cool vs13 in 2008/9 and then kh3 in 2010/11" ,lol

not to get very off-topic, but 12 was very far away from the classic and traditional FF elements. I mean I enjoyed the game for what it was, but it didn't have an FF feel at all.

It felt within the FF feel to me. FF is always changing but it had the core elements.

I felt the style was back to being a original fantasy world as in VI, rather than more post-VII anime tropes.

Awesome.

FF threads are always full of hilarity.

I have the same opinion.

Final Fantasy XII was just something other and probably did more hurt to name it Final Fantasy XII than naming it Own title.

Also butchering story and characters didn't end well too. It was MMO closed in Single Player RPG.

Whoa, I never understood why I was comfortable with FF12 either, but I think the fact that it was close to VI and my inherent love for Ivalice might just be the reason.

Boco has solved a mystery.

Anime tropes like riding mechs, transforming teenage girls, and gigantic city-sized robot rampages?

I agree.

But then I'd go even further and say it wasn't a great game either. The weird pacing, total collapse of the narrative, and kinda offbeat battle system did not click with me in the slightest. I kept on waiting for the game to "go" but it felt like it was just running place until I made it about 70% of the way through and put it down.

People were amazed by fancy SE CGI and actually not a single minute of gameplay until 5 years in and even then it was only like 6 months in "full production".

People fell for something that, dimply, doesn't exist.

I smell a "Revengeance" case now, they have NO IDEA what to do with it.

and amnesia. lol

But I just felt XII and VI were original fantasy worlds.. akin to something like a good Ghibli film.... more divorced from the post-VII shonen manga influence (Nomura). I love all the FFs but those two felt different.. and I want more.

total collapse of the narrative

That did happen, I concede.

Seriously people, when will you all learn? This game simply does not exist. It never has, nor will. It's never coming out. Honestly at this point it's akin to the great stories of old, like Nessy or Big Foot.

But seriously, fuck this shit. Announced six years ago and still nowhere near release. 2013 is probably a stretch at this point. Fuck Nomura, just make Kingdom Hearts 3 (another terribly handled series...) and then be done with it.

Honestly, FF6 was just as "anime" as the current ones.

It just had LESS details, graphics and such, to show this. People's imaginations filled in the blanks, especially when you first played it as a 12 year old. The oft-vaunted towns that people screamed so hard about missing in FF13? If you looked at the maps of the FF6 towns, they are almost all EXACTLY the same.

FF6 was not original or unique. It was your imagination that made the earlier FFs have "original" fantasy worlds.

What a story this is. Have they actually been working on it since 06 or did they start fully developing it last year?

Amazed how so many great rpg and open world games with HD TOWNS has been released since 06.... ACreed, Oblivion, Skyrim, Batman and complex games like MMOs, Aion, Tera and TOR.

If we don't get a release date or demo this year from this game, I'm gonna hurt myself.. I'm thinking about playing real world frogger
