You mentioned The Other, but that was a different character from Thanos.
Oh right, completely forgot that's what that was referring to. For some reason, I thought it was their way of not wanting to refer to Thanos and keep it spoiler-free, lol.

Are there any good podcasts that have discussed the movie? Smodcast really dropped the ball on this.

I'd love to see me some Nova Corps.

LOVE THAT SHIT.

Me too! I think the Guardians movies will definitely happen- Marvel will be eager to get another ensemble superhero film into development, no doubt- but it's not exactly a Nova story at all. I can see them shoving him in there; he is an honourary member after all, and although there's plenty of humanoid characters in the Guardians there's not many actual humans on the team, and Nova is probably the most recognisable face out of anyone affiliated with the GotG, so I reckon he'll show up.

GotG is going to be so good... I hope they get Rocket Raccoon right, though.

I can totally see Nova as the guy who brings the info of Thanos to the Avengers.

Open scene - SHIELD is tracking some odd meterological movements, Thor or Tony go check it out as a favor to Fury. Ends up being Nova. Slap fight ensues, with the other Avengers showing up to end the fight.

And so forth.

Listened to the /Filmcast review and was horribly disappointed that no one geeked out over Hulk smashing Loki over and over and over again. I thought for sure Adam would have been all over that.

There's the fxguide.com interview podcast I linked to earlier. I'm sure they'll have a general podcast as well discussing/analyzing the vfx work shortly.

One thing about this movie I was surprised about was the lack of events in the movie coming back in the climax, Chekov's gun style.

- Captain's Shield + Thor's Hammer = big explosion. But they don't use this ability during the giant alien invasion.

- Iron Man + Thor's Lightning = 400% energy capacity. When IM was running out of juice at the end, I expected Thor to give him a re-charge. That didn't happen either.

Not a negative, just something I noticed.

I didn't think about this until just now.....what the hell? Why would they introduce these "power ups" and then never use them. Now I am a little pissed! lol

Film Misery is one of the few that had an Avengers podcast. Co-hosted with Phil Kollar. it was a good discussion.

Thanks, will check those out.

Yeah, that's kinda how I imagined it. I could see some really catty dialogue between Rider and Fury- seeing as Rider essentially left Earth with technology that I'm sure S.H.I.E.L.D. would be gagging to take apart and use for themselves.

I just saw the movie last night. I thought it was enjoyable, but not on the same level as The Dark Knight. Reminds me of X2 in some ways, but a little better.

Large radius blast that could do more damage to the surroundings than they wanted to. Captain America and Thor seemed kind of stunned afterward as well, well maybe Thor just was because isn't Caps shield supposed to negate all vibration?

That was when the two of them were fighting right? It did visible damage to the suit enough that doing such a thing wouldn't be too wise.

No reason to guess about what Mjolnir can or can't do.

http://marvel.wikia.com/Mjolnir

that information is provided directly by Marvel.

I knew it:

Worthiness Enchantment: This enchantment surrounding Mjolnir prevents it from being wielded by anyone save those who have been found worthy or anyone Thor deems acceptable to wield Mjolnir for a time; certain Asgardians, such as Skurge, have successfully lifted its handle from the ground, but not entirely lift Mjolnir itself. Thus far, this includes Thor, the Awesome Android, Odin, Tiwaz, Red Norvell, Beta Ray Bill, Bor and Captain America. To anyone else, Mjolnir cannot be lifted from the ground nor wrested from Thor’s grip. The only person shown to be able to lift it with pure strength is The Hulk, an act that was thought to be impossible.

I figured that Hulk should be able to lift that thing! :lol

I expected both of these things too. They seemed incredibly telegraphed to me, and when they didn't show up I kinda scratched my head. Whedon must have had the same idea, so my guess these follow-up scenes were shot but edited out for time, which stinks.

I saw Thor, but I still don't understand this. From what I understand, there is no magic in the world of Thor. It's just sufficiently advanced science that appears to be magic if you aren't as evolved. And you can explain basically every part of Thor's technology with that, except this "charm". How can the hammer look into the soul of the person to determine if they are worthy? It could be coded to only be picked up by Thor (via a DNA check) but how can the hammer know Thor is ready for the power?

I suppose the answer is that the hammer is so scientifically advanced that it can actually figure out if a person is "worthy" and then unlock itself to that person. But that just sounds like bullshit to me. I guess because I am not sufficiently evolved.

lets just call it what it is, unnecessary. besides if it were all in the hammers technology...then why show that odin is in the odinsleep (and what is that in the techno version of the story??) and realizes Thor has learned his lesson and he gets mjolnir back? The super high tech asgardians fall apart when they try and integrate other aspects of asgardian lore. Power stripped mortal Thor survived falling thru a wormhole to earth come on. If people can accept the Hulk (man gets exposed to the same type of radiation we find blasting out of supermassive black holes) then they can accept demi gods from an alternate dimension, it the Marvel U , just about everything exists. They shouldnt limit the stories if anything the movie has shown that if done right the stories can be brought to film. In the marvel U theres the magical and technological in asgard the Destroyer for instance, and the magical like the norn stones , or casket of ancient winters. Why not have both and take away the limitation.

Not to mention the big deal that was made out of the weapons of mass destruction that were being developed, and whatever the prototypes were that Fury wanted shipped out, and the secret area Captain America broke into with all the ultra high-tech guns...and the only time any of that showed up was when the agent used the gun to shoot Loki. And of course it didn't do anything besides make his death somewhat amusing, and Loki shrugged it off and escaped or whatever.

Well as far as the hammer/shield combo I dont think you want to do something that will knock you down as well as the enemy. Especially when the enemy's are located beyond the perimiter of the blast radius.

Did anyone else think this was basically a power rangers movie...as soon as I realized it I could just not get it out of my head....

If the Hulk had unlimited time to get more and more frustrated trying to lift it, he could get it off the ground through sheer, unbelievable strength, but he's the only being to ever do so.

Captain America has wielded it before and this would be an AWESOME move for a climax in a future movie.

It did seem very Chekov's Gun. I wonder if there were cut scenes? Would be great to use (with no explanation needed) in future movies, especially if Iron Man is say, down to 5% power and taking a beating while Thor is holding somebody else off nearby. "Hey Point Break, give me a jump!"

Oh we did? Lol haven't watched Thor yet
No, I have no clue what he means.

I'm pretty sure those were freak accidents...the explosion was only from the force of the impact soo...Thor could pretty much just slam his hammer into the ground and do something similar and I think the suit powering up wasn't very safe

Don't think this was posted yet:

Short interview quotes about the post credits scene (the first one) and what it might mean for future movies. Joss is a big fan of the character.

/Film: Thanos at the end. At what point did you know that you wanted to do that? Who shot that? How was that put together?

Kevin Feige: Joss. Joss, Joss, and Joss.

But Good job Bob and Yamato tell me...

Kevin Feige: Joss. Joss, Joss, and Joss.

Ok.

Did Loki poke Selvig with the scepter during the opening scene to control him? Or was he already under control as the post-credits scene of Thor showed us?

It just wasn't clear whether Loki had already used his influence on Selvig to make him create the portal or if Loki/Thanos did that purely on their own from the "other side" of the cube.

He did the former

I think he poked him.

Proton Cannon is Iron Man's weapon in Marvel Vs. Capcom. Don't know if it'll work even in the MCU. It kind of just materializes out of nowhere.

he could have a batman style ship that drops "add ons" if he needs em. something like the Mark VII equip - have something shoot out of the stark building and connect with the suit. then it transforms into a HUGE gun.

awesome.

Uh-huh yeah plenty of girls have been "into me for a while."

Oh-oh-oh.

"When did you become an expert in thuuurmoh newklear ahstrophizzicz"

Why'd that cube-machine guy put in "a fail safe in Loki's sceptor" at all I wonder? Was that meant to imply that Loki would have wanted an emergency shutdown, or that the guy that was under control had some of his conscious mind still active when he was under control?
