Marvel's The Avengers |OT| (Dir. Joss Whedon) [Spoilers unmarked]

There is an Incredible Hulk defense force on NeoGAF and I am its leader.

what was the budget on this movie? i didn't expect to have as much action and special effects as it did, which is awesome.

The special effects was a big part of this film for me. If that city scene wasn't done right or felt like computer generated characters it could have ruined everything. If they go ahead with this new villain then 300 million or more would be required for Avengers 2.

Guys, what's better --- LieMAX or AMC'S "ETX"?

You're seeing it in 3D? After all your ranting about how immoral Whedon is for tacking on a post-conversion job?

Please tell me that all the Gaffers stayed past the end credits. I mean ALL the way.

Would love that final scene in GIF form, but I'd never use it for the spoiler potential ;P

I had to dash to make it to work, but I heard there's someone who loves
.......death..........

When we got that in at work a few weeks ago the receiving guy and I were laughing at that. I told him I would be severely disappointed if gamma radiation was not part of the Hulk workout. We looked through, and it wasn't. It was the Lou Ferrigno workout.

It had bits on the workouts of all Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and RDJ. Fave quote in the article was about how much work Hemsworth did to get that big. Something like "There were no drugs involved. Just lots of red meat, protein, and a rigid workout routine. Chris just simply decided to look like Thor."

Like a boss.

I read someone wonder where the military was during the siege on NYC, but I think part of the reason why this movie was so good was the lack of any military/regular human shit so all of the focus is on the superheroes. I think the transformers movies suffer from that.

I read on yahoo news that Avengers 2 may be set for 2014, have you guys heard anything about this yet? Also it crossed more than 700 million at the box office.

If The Dark Knight is more about the tragic tale of Harvey Dent than it is about Batman, I'm fine with that. One of the greatest villains of all time and Nolan fucking nailed it.

No way it's going to be 2014. With Iron man and Thor next year, they're gonna want to cram a new franchise into 2014 with Captain America 2. 2015 is much more likely.

Seeing it in 3D is the only way I'm going to be able to watch it on a moderately large sized screen with a nice sound system --- I'm not gonna like the 3D and Disney/Marvel Studios can go fuck themselves but whatever.

Masochist is right. You're paying more for something you know upfront you won't like. Brilliant.

I bet you feel dirty after watching it but secretly love it.

Lol, they used to call me Hombre Verde at work when I did construction... not because I was huge, ( I don't consider 5'9" and a trim 210lbs huge, or even close to it) but because I had serious retard-strength.

"Cmon babe, do that thing for me, display your unidimensional characters that are totally replaceable. Make them drop lines that are not worthy of a 220 script mmm let me see your non signature directing babeeeeee ohhh show me that Feige ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Crap CGI Thanos? Meeeeh!!!!!! I'm dooone."

AFTER that. Seriously. There are two bits to the credits in this movie, not just the one.

But yeah, I had no idea
just who the fuck that was ;P I read a lot of comics as a kid, just not those comics I guess

Wait, why the hell am I using spoiler quotes in a spoiler thread?

I just saw it - SO FUCKING GOOOOOOODDDDDDD.

Will be watching again in the near future... I loved this so much.

"That's my secret, Cap. I'm always angry."

The Iron Man/Cap team up was god-like.

I feel like TDK is the very definition of shaky second half.

More like a shaky anything without the joker involved... half. That's ultimately why I grew to enjoy Batman Begins more. Even with it's shaky second half. The first half was amazing though.

Well I fucked up apparently and didn't stay until after the final credit roll. I saw a scene that appeared soon after the credits started rolling and I guess there was one at the very end of the credits?

I couldn't help it though. I had to piss so bad I could have hit the screen from the back row at the IMAX.

Loved the movie. I thought they got a great mix of time in for everyone. I went in expecting 2 or 3 of the characters to dominate the screen time, but it felt like everyone got an equal share.

I really do not know how the Amazing Spider-man can follow the Avengers. Just saw this movie tonight with a friend and my sister and we both left shocked how awesome was the movie. The Puny God part alone was one of many highs in this film. Loki was just as evil as evil can be. Cap was good and he was totally leader material. Cyclops should call Cap for leadership skills in movies. I already know DKR will deliver but Spider-man is a hit or miss. I hope the action can match or even top the Avengers.

I am totally going to see this movie again. I think the future films should be mini team ups. Hawkeye and Black Widow in Cap 2, Banner and Stark in Iron man 3.

Just in case (Credits to Mr. Sam for version 1.0):

AVENGERS FAQ 2.0:

  • Why was Hulk not uncontrollable at the end?
Banner's second transformation into Hulk was voluntarily. It's been established, in the comics and in The Incredible Hulk, that a voluntary transformation makes Hulk more controllable and means he can distinguish between friend and foe. Banner's first transformation was involuntary, and thus Hulk was much more volatile.
  • How did Thor get back to Earth? Wasn't that rainbow bridge thingy destroyed?
Thor got back to Earth thanks to Odin using dark magic to teleport him there. Loki mentions this when Thor abducts him. It's implied that this is a very difficult process and a one way ticket - the tesseract is needed to teleport Thor and Loki back to Asgard.
  • What did Hulk say--
Hulk says "Puny god" after smashing Loki. I'm sorry the audience was too loud.
  • Who was that after the end credits?
    Thanos: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanos
  • What's shawarma?
No idea. If you stick around after the credits, all the Avengers went out to have some Shawarma.
  • Is agent Coulson dead?
    According to an interview, yes.
  • Where is Spiderman/X-men/Fantastic Four?
Sony/Fox own the movie rights so unless that changes they won't be showing up in any disney/marvel movie.
  • Why is Hulk unable to lift Mjolnir?
Directly from Marvel: "Worthiness Enchantment: This enchantment surrounding Mjolnir prevents it from being wielded by anyone save those who have been found worthy or anyone Thor deems acceptable to wield Mjolnir for a time".
  • What does "Mewling Quim" mean?
In more modern English, this would be “whining cunt”.(from bleedingcool.com)

Anything I forgot?

Yep, but you can always save it for your inevitable second viewing ;P Its nothing that hints at another movie - just a nice moment.

Just saw it. Holy fucking shit. I was blown away and it far exceeded my already high expectations.

Jesus christ, a second watch is a must. What was the budget of this movie? Goddamn wowwwwwwwwwww

For the future: You buy a drink at the movie not because you're thirsty but so you can use the cup as a toilet. I don't mind paying a premium for a drink when I know that later someone is providing me the service of picking up a cup with my piss in it.

I've never actually done this

Could you imagine the one-liners and action scenes if Spider-man was in this film? Banner, Stark and Parker in a lab. Yeah i would watch it.

I read another article where Evans honestly admitted that his workout schedule for Captain America film was too much for him, it made him feel sick afterwards. They eventually had to tone it down, which is why that new body moneyshot was done first before any other scenes. And as you can see in Avengers, Evans' body is relatively smaller than his body in Captain America. I like that instead of boasting about his workout, he admitted that he just can't sustain the kind of workout required for that scene in Captain America required.

I'll put on some Buffy, that should get my bowels going.

Usually makes me spew from the other end. Angel is for my bowel movements.

I know, and I like it. Dude is still big and in incredible shape.
