Fighting Games Weekly | May 7-13

I'd believe it. Except that somehow implies that Darkstalkers 4 is important and Sony pays big bucks. I'd believe Sony would put up some money, but their pockets aren't that deep.

It's not like they threw SFxT into the fire for the sake of their precious Darkstalkers, more like they can't be bothered to spend too much effort fixing SFxT's problems and would rather move on to Darkstalkers. Which is an incredibly bad decision.

I'm lazy! Plus I expected someone with a Vita to look up the actual hitboxes or some shit. I don't feel like trial-and-error'ing it.

Been working on some other stuff through.

In case you missed it earlier:

Trolled so hard!!

Wow at things getting blown out of proportion, haha.

I live in a condo so it's not the end of the world to move somewhere else. I had a pretty sweet thing going at the place everyone knows and loves from Assist Me, but I'd prefer to keep the show/productions going rather than dealing with outside problems coming with the location. I found out about this a few weeks ago, and am already making plans to move, albeit living expenses being nearly twice as much.

Even with the costs associated with moving/new place, the big issue at hand is the main writer/costume designer and actor for Assist Me, is running into some really tough times right now. I'll put up a video soon explaining everything but the bigger problem as a result is the future of Assist Me, as we'd be losing our primary shooting location, and key production members.

I feel very iffy about just asking people for money for the hell of it, and want to do this the right way if at all. Most likely give away key items from the show, or exclusives to people that donate. I'd prefer it being worth someones while if they're actually contributing money towards a production. Similar to how we had a budget working with Capcom for Ultimate Assist Me last year, the budget would now come from the fans for the future of Assist Me. Everything outside of those 6 episodes came out of my pocket and those involved in the creative work. The show has always been a financial but extremely personal rewarding burden...but it's doing something I love and sharing it with people who also have come to enjoy it too.
I look forward to knowing the full details of what's going on. I respect that you don't want to just take handouts, so consider doing what a lot of smaller artistic individuals like yourself do: make a DVD compilation of the show so far and sell it. It's a way fans can support you while you also feel like you aren't just taking their money.

Or you could start a raffle for Jill's phone number. I'm sure that would be popular.

Given the issues with SSFIV and MVC3, I actually buy it.
The story isn't completely unbelievable, but I wonder where it came from. Let's not forget that pre-release Marvel had LOTS of believable stories. Saving Megaman for his birthday, anyone?

They've said "fuck you" to their non-fighting game fans, at least. SF4 WAS a huge shot in the arm for them, IIRC.
And UMvC3 being a rushed project, no spectator mode in Vanilla, H&H mode being random opponents only. There's a lot of basic stuff that makes it obvious that the suits are controlling the games and not the creative directors.

I don't see how they could have a master plan beyond milking the game for all it's worth until the next big thing.
No clue, but I still value Seth's opinions so I'm curious to see where it goes.

We had a pretty sweet thing going in Santa Monica. Rent control is pretty rare especially in a place like this, but it's just easier to find a newer place and turn it into the new shooting location.
Maybe Dr. Doom is starting to pay rent...

YUP.
You assisted your show instead of your house, dude...
Of course everyone is going to blow this shit up. Really?
How can people be so obsessed over criticizing his life choices? Besides, he's moving. It's not like he's going bankrupt because of the show or something, or quit his job to play videogames all day.

Well, it's not a house, but it is my home. We've rented the place for 4 years now, and it absolutely is my home. Finding a new place isn't terrible, and we're already in the process.

However, Assist Me has brought a ton of opportunities to myself and the people that work on the show in the past year. I've had the chance to work with Capcom on a couple occasions because of it. That still blows my fragile nostalgia filled mind. There's a good 15 people heavily involved with Assist Me that get a lot of personal satisfaction from it, myself included.

I believe in staying persistent and professional, and hopefully things will just work out. I've also wanted to make movies and tell stories since I was a child. I think moving to a new place for some extra cost would be worth it.

I think it's great that you're choosing a road which is difficult, but that also leads to a more fulfilling existence. "Go for mediocrity" is too common these days.

wut? rent control in los angeles? first i've ever heard of this.

Oh, I'm a troll, because what? I never agree with your opinions?
That's fine with me, then.

Just don't sit me next to that DR2K/PSVitaAssDude.

Eh, at least you know what's up.

...

/coughs

Aw, fuck it. Best time to post a gif since you brought him up. Why the fuck not? :P

I'm not entirely sure I know what's going on but I hope you've made the right decisions and wish you the best Max. I hope it works out for you and your friends; you do good work.

I know right? It was pretty bitchen. I forgot to add something really important to this whole conversation....

VIDEOGAMES!
Well, good job continuing to do the things you love. At least you're happy with what you are doing in your life, which is more than a majority of people can say.

BTW, I always wondered. What do you do for a living, Max? Do you get revenue from YouTube or Machinina or something?

lol capcom pretty much killed the branding and now namco is left making a game nobody will care about.

People say that about a lot of games.
name one. even the guys who were the biggest supporters of the game at launch like mike ross are now starting to troll it and not take it seriously.

As a person who hates on UMvC3 and originally preferred SFxT to be the "second Capcom game."

Yeah.

Shit is going to be deceased after EVO2k12. I thought 2v2 would save it, but nope...

Depends how Namco treats it. I know several casual players that are waiting for TxSF because they enjoy Tekken more. Plus it's still very far away (they haven't even started on it yet iirc). The bad taste of SFxT might have died down by then.

My issues with the rumour:

1) What about SFxTK was scaled back? The game is the biggest Capcom FG production to date and is still getting support/unlocks.

2) Ono wants them to do the DLC earlier so they can move on? They make it sound like a choice not made by the publisher but Ono himself. Pretty odd, but somehow I kind of expect this level of lenience in Japanese development. But most of me thinks Ono wouldn't have much of a say in it all.

3) Half a million pound compatibility patch for SFxTK? WAT WAT WAT WAT. Even that sounds ridiculous when up against the $40k a patch claim. I wonder how much Burnout Paradise's updates must have cost then.. No way. Way too big a chunk of development resources. Criterion would have folded twice over.

4) Ono possibly overseeing DSIV development at Capcom Vancouver?

5) TELL US WHAT NIITSUMA IS WORKING ON, NARUTO DUDE.

Overall, a bit more believable than the usual lot but it seems kind of iffy. Also anyone claiming OMG THIS WAS ON UNITY BUT MODS TRIED TO COVER IT UP BY DELETIN THE THREAD or similar claims for source don't really sound convincing to me. Heard it all far too many times before.

Wait, so let me get this straight. Top 3 games at EVO are

1. SSF4AE 2012
2. Red T-shirt
3. UMVC3

PHO-REALZ? We really gonna have like 500+ dudes at EVO who are going to have no fucking idea how to play one of the games they registered? If Wiz is seriously not bullshitting us then KOFXIII will probably blow away the DQ record, whatever that record may be.

Just look at this shirt and tell me you don't think it's worth more than 10 bucks.

That "Red Shirt" is called KOF XIII, sir. Show some goddamn respect.

Fixing it will require a LOT of dev time that I'm just not sure Capcom is willing to give to the game.
I honestly hope they won't. I have the nonsense thought that if SFxT fails Capcom will see the light, that MvC3 is fighting game destiny...! I'd be happy with a SFIVAE/UMvC3/Darkstalkers combination rocking the scene, assuming Ono doesn't biff up the latter.

People say that about a lot of games.
Yeah, like MK9, which is clearly doing well still in the tournament scene.

Hahahahaha.

Especially since "suppress the truth!" makes less sense than "clearing the board of half-wit rumors".

"Fixing" SFxTK goes beyond a conventional patch. The game, from what I've seen, is fundamentally flawed. If they are already in the red with the game, investing in such a fix would likely not bring a huge enough return to break even. It's not worth it, financially.

All resources are being poured into future titles. All we know is that one is helmed by Ono and one by Niitsuma, and that none of the upcoming projects are MvC related. Also, SFV in the next 5 years (Capcom plans 5 years in advance for everything).

The thing is, I would actually register for the shirt to if I could go. But I wouldn't play my match though. I'd just get DQ'd or forfeit if I decided to show up, or maybe plug in my stick and press buttons until I lose. But I definitely wouldn't practice up to prepare myself to play the game that I'm not playing right now, and that's what I imagine a lot of others will do in real life. I'm just looking at the situation and having a laugh about it.

My bad, I didn't mean anything by it. I have friends and family who are KOF player, lots of them.

Mai > Chun Li. Yes I just went there... red shirt = totally worth it!
It depends on the artist. Morrigan looks terrible in 95% of her art despite logically being the most attractive Capcom female.

Maybe there's... I dunno... people who entered who actually play KOF!!
I don't think anyone's doubting that a handful actually play the game.
;-)

Edit: I just saw the shirt, and I'm tempted to remove the winky face, because it now seems much more likely that people would enter for the shirt.

Capcom Fighting Jam 2! #Kappa.

I don't think SFxT is un-salvageable.

There is nothing to start because AE doesn't compare. It's not even an issue of balance either. I think back to comments like Flashmetroid's praise of SFxT being the best fighter(maybe SF) since Third Strike and how people took it as approval that the game was amazing. Why didn't he just say that it blew away AE? Everyone was ready to leave SFIV and this iteration of SF is not even that old yet.

I don't think it's CFJ bad or even terrible, but I feel more and more like it's the game that people play just because there is competition. I guess we'll find out if AE is any good in another five years or so. Good games last forever regardless of hype, sponsors and brazzers. I'm looking at VSav, ST, 3S and Guilty Gear here.

Why do you think there is more competition for it in the first place compared to UMvC3? Because they enjoy it more. And I'm talking globally. I think AE became stale (and thus falling behind marvel) in the US because their level of play just couldn't go further (from the players just below Justin, Ricky, Krone, etc...). You have the same people winning and because of that you see the same characters winning. Where as in Japan, any top player from their pool of elite players can win and their is a large variety of players/characters that cause that surprise/hype. The excitement is missing in US only AE tournaments and that negatively effects all the players below the elite players when inventing tech, spectating events, and generally being inspired to get on that level.

I certainly think it's on the right track to lasting the longest out of all these current fighters. It has the most players and it's the older game.

Well there is the rumored Wii U release list with a Marvel Super Heroes. That could be what Nitsuma is working on.

EDIT: AE is loved more globally but Marvel has the sandbox factor, the hype factor, and the cult factor which is why MvC2 survived for as long as it did. New things were constantly being discovered and the game had extreme hype moments.

An all-marvel fighting game from Niitsuma would be the shit. I'd buy a Wii U for it. If it weren't for MvC3, I'd never know about the bawss that is the dread Dormammu

There's more competition for SFIV for two big reasons, IMO:
1) It has huge name recognition. It's Street Fighter! That alone gives it a huge boost in popularity. Japan has never really taken the Marvel series seriously, which is more indicative of differing tastes than game quality.

2) Marvel is really brutal to play. SFIV lets you mess up a lot, and any beginner can play it and have a pretty good time. Marvel makes you want to throw your TV out the window even when you're a good player. It's just a whole other level of play involved.

An all-marvel fighting game from Niitsuma would be the shit. I'd buy a Wii U for it. If it weren't for MvC3, I'd never know about the bawss that is the dread Dormammu
It's a neat idea...that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Why a whole new Marvel fighting game instead of another MvC3 expansion with more Marvel characters? -_-
I would consider buying it for Dormammu, but who the hell else would I play? I'd need Blackheart and/or Mephisto...
