Wow at Carmageddon and wow at how fast it's going up.

Let me join the chorus of people whose wallets are crying. With this, Two guys ($115!) and the upcoming Tex Murhpy, I need to lie down.

Next year will be awesome though.

If anything of this actually makes it out.

If it does, it does; if it doesn't, so be it. I've reconciled myself with the fact that there's a risk involved, and only spent money I can afford to lose.

As I've said a few times: In games development, *someone* has to take on a risk. I'm willing to take on a share of that risk as far as I'm able to do so.

I'm going to stick my neck out and estimate that Carmageddon will be another $1M+ project when all's said and done. It's a genre that hasn't yet really had a high-profile Kickstarter tied to it, and I think that'll work to its benefit.

The Carmegeddon name also helps a lot. It's going to resonate with gamers of the 25-40 range who are nostalgic for splattering penguins.

I've had a GAF account forever but I just lurk really (I are fail at forums), but seeing as some of you have kindly pointed out the Drifter Kickstarter I figured I'd just pop in and say thank you. It's appreciated :)

im going to back this. on decision is whether i want a boxed copy...

I've been staring at the chart trying to work out if there's any difference in *content* between the two $100 tiers, or if it's just that it's all in digital form in one. It's kinda hard to figure out because I *think* they bundle all the description of the digital content you're *not* getting in the description of the game box you *are* getting.

they seem the same. the one thing i cant tell is the diaries. the physical version only says diary notes, while the digital one says you retain the ability to watch the diaries after release. unless i am missing something.

Not naming names, but it would be great if these people had a studio or company structure set up before they made their Kickstarter. The stuff I've been reading from various updates is utter bullshit. Especially from established industry members.

The project is thankfully cancelled, now we'll never know the name of this game ;_; . The comment section is hilarious, the guy was really clueless.

I went to his YouTube page after looking at this. It's kinda funny and kinda sad. I think people are jumping on this Kickstarter thing like it's all the rage right now but not really knowing what it requires.

It reminds me of how some of my friends were just going to "make a 360 game" over the summer. None of them were programmers.

Actually, I've seen that happen a lot. Young, overzelous kids think they can just "make" a game since they have some "revolutionary" (read: mediocre) gaming idea. As someone who's been on the real side of game development, hearing this always brings a tear and a chuckle.

Anyway, sad to see this kid get canceled. I feel like dudes like him see kickstarter as a way to finally break into the gaming industry with their endless trove of AAA game ideas. Must be a bit crushing to have an edge of reality set in when your kickstarter completely fails - and that could be said for junior and legitimate indie developers, alike.

Jason Rohrer with Music by Tom Bailey: Diamond Trust of London

Target: $78,715
Deadline: May 26th

Diamond Trust of London, my two-player strategy game for the Nintendo DS, is finished, approved by Nintendo, and ready to be manufactured into cartridges. As I faced Nintendo's large manufacturing minimum, a serious question arose: how many people in the world would want to play it? Kickstarter is a perfect way to answer that question.

First time seeing this thread very nice. Is there a place where on can make suggestions or pitches for a new kickstarter game? Specifically say something like a competitor to World of Tanks because Wargamming.net sucks, pisses on their comminity, yet still makes barrels of money because its fun and there's no direct competitor? :)

You can toss around ideas in here, but it won't lead anywhere.

Haunts: The Manse Macabre - This turn-based horror game allows you to take the role of a group of people exploring a haunted mansion or whatever's haunting it. It immediately made me think of Illbleed, mostly because I always envisioned that a follow-up to Illbleed should have some form of multi-player in which you set various traps for other players.

Rob Swigart's Portal (1986) Reborn v2.0 - This is an updated version of the original game (which I'm largely unfamiliar with). Instead of being a text-based adventure, however, it'll now be more of a graphical adventure.

Realm Explorer has a video showing some enemy models.

They'll be putting out a proper Kickstarter update later, with this and some other stuff.

Shame it's not getting more attention, I got a good vibe from the devs and what they show. All everyone talked about was how it's digging and walking, because that's what the first videos show, like duh, the game's not done, they want to fund the development, and list lots of what they want to do. Hopefully they'll get more coverage once they send out their press demo, apparently some outlets they've contacted so far just haven't bothered to report, even though it's not just ideas/concept art like others on KS.

I played Diamond Trust of London over a year ago, and to be perfectly honest I don't remember a lot about it, except that I enjoyed it.

Also, Drifter added a t-shirt reward today. Still worried about the virtual buttons (ugh), but otherwise the game looks fantastic. Wish I could afford to contribute at the poster level.

That looks pretty good. It's a shame that it's not doing any better.

Assuming you mean the controls in the iOS version, Drifter's controls will be evolving from Red Nova's controls which were designed from the ground up to avoid the frustrations of virtual buttons and d-pads. Basically, the screen is divided up into control zones which have specific purposes and use gestures to replace buttons and an auto-centering virtual analog stick for control.

Admittedly they're not perfect, but I think they're a lot better than bog standard fixed position controls, for what it's worth (also a bunch of reviews seemed to think they're pretty gewd).

Yeah, I've pledged, but the lack of coverage is killing it. I've only seen it mentioned on RPGwatch. I don't understand why...

Hopefully they can still make it if the Kickstarter fails, maybe do it Minecraft style and sell already available alphas...

Damn it, I was going to get the two limited edition Diamond Trust package but now they're all sold out. :( Couldn't log into my account from work.

I like space games,these 2 were posted?

SKYJACKER

$22,086

19
days to go

"SKYJACKER is a 1st person free-roaming space combat game with incredibly high dynamics and freedom of the gameplay, which you‘ve never seen in any other space combat game before! (Don't believe us? Check the video intro above - this is the real gameplay captured video)

The player controls a space pirate, roaming space in his starship. Game objectives are:

Be the real space pirate, flying, shooting, robbing and crashing alien ships all around the Galaxy.
Collect the loot to improve your own spacecraft
Climb the criminal ladder, getting higher ranks"

As a semi-random musing: In the adventure game field, who's left who's both a big name from the 90's and hasn't yet done a Kickstarter? I can only really think of Roberta Williams until you start delving into Infocom alumni (Brian Moriarty and Steve Meretzky bridging the gap, there, I guess)

I wouldn't say no to a Last Express 2 kickstarter.

Jason Rohrer is a cool guy, I like that we're at a point with videogames where covers like this are possible.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this one:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/attackmountain/legend-of-the-time-star-a-retro-action-rpg

Sounds like something great in the making, but seems like it wont hit funded status. With Virt as the composer, and what looks like a cool art style, you'd think more people would be jumping on this one. The soundtrack sounds great so far, they're shooting for what looks like a Capcom or Enix game from the 16 bit days.

Honor in Arms

$12,673
PLEDGED OF $57,500 GOAL

DAYS TO GO

Just wanted to mention that Drifter is less than $15,000 from its goal :)

I should have read that kickstarter properly when I first heard of it; I always thought it was to create an iPhone game - and therefore irrelevant to me since I don't own an iOS device. Now I've read further, I might need to think a bit more.

I don't recall this game at all. Anyone?

They're being rather optimistic shooting for over $500k with only concept art to show for themselves. No gameplay videos, no idea of how the 3D game will look, no famous names (Schafer, Fargo, Jensen, Weisman). Since Jane Jensen is only hovering around the $400k mark I can't see how this is going to be successful.

Oh man, I hadn't thought people might not realize the goal was to bring it to desktop. I can see what you mean though if you just kinda skim through. Glad you re-read it.

Anyone else find that wasn't clear? Just wondering now if I should put a note in or something...

To be fair, you do say it in big bold text. I just managed to miss that on the first runthrough.

Whats surprising is that there are more projects that hit their targets than there are failed projects on this list. Interesting.

(whoops, edited the wrong post)

The most difficult part is promoting it without turning into a spammer.

I fucking hate the users/commenters that go "but this is more important than personal issues with spamming".

It's fucking ridiculous.

It's a fucking video game, it's not more important than common decency.
