Considering they're going back and hacking Wonderboy 4 and Monster Land to have English, it would actually be interesting if they'd do the same for Streets of Rage 3.

Hmm, I wouldn't count on it. If my assumption is right that getting English versions of Monster Land and Monster World IV released was Westone's initiative, I wouldn't expect much else similar to those games coming from Sega. At best, you'll be able to select which version of the game you want to play. But, I suppose, you never know!

Is anyone able to launch Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers (the first one) ? I tried now for the first time in ages, and this is what happened:

- Prompt for update (4MB)
- Prompt that said I had to redownload it (300+ MB)
- After redownloading, launching it now says "The game requires an update, but the update couldn't be found." In addition, when I launch it, I get the Guide popping up saying I have to sign in (even though I'm already signed in).

Am I fucked?

Go to the memory tab and delete the patch and run the game. That should hopefully fix the problem. Not guaranteeing it will though, but it's worth a shot.

If that doesn't work, delete everything magic (not your save, obvs) and redownload.

Did a release date for Retro City Rampage get announced yet? All I've heard is May so I'd have thought it'd be out there somewhere by now.

Has Dean ever listed the resources he used to learn programming in preperation for Dust? Maybe it's finally time to build my The Remains of the Day videogame.

I think they need to have at least 1 month exclusivity period. Bastion had it if I'm not mistaken.

And I Am Alive had it for the block party thing earlier this year. I don't think they are going to give a game that kind of promotion without some exclusivity involved

I haven't, but I'd love to do a postmortem. It's mostly been a series of online tutorials, the XNA community forums, a couple books, and a lot of generous devs answering my silly questions.

And I play a lot of games.. or used to before I became a dev :p Once I get some time I'd love to write some basic tutorial stuff, on the art and programming side. Maybe it'll inspire someone.

when was the last time Episodes from Liberty City & Dragon Age II DLCs were on sale, what was the price cut and anyone have any thoughts when can we see those again?

Just to make sure it's posted here too:

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, June 6th on XBLA.
  • Game: $15 dollars.
  • Costume DLC per character: $5
  • Costume DLC Bundles: 2 of them, for $15 each.

So even if you buy the game + all DLC, it's still 15 bucks cheaper ($45) than a retail title. And note that the main game comes with 6 costumes per each of the 19 characters already (The DLC are just additions), so this is a feature-packed bundle of awesome for the price, no matter how much or little you plan to buy.

The Sega Vintage collections look great, can't wait to see if they've done a good job with them. If they have, that's 4 insta-buys for me right there. Would be nice to have the arcade versions of Golden Axe, but whatever.

I'll be picking up VF5 too.

I'd read it. One of the things that bothered me about people saying "well I just read up and learned" - is the fact they stop there. What did you read. Where did you read. A nice foothold would be great. Give people who have a passing interest a nice starting spot. But they're just like "well if i can do it, anyone can!"

I haven't played nearly enough VF5... guess I'll have to put in some more time with it before this comes out.

Very exciting either way. I'm not usually one to say this sort of thing, but this is a case where I've gotta support Sega for putting it out. Question is which console, if I don't double-dip.

Yep. The steam install for SS3 is 4.5 gig and the iso is 4.1 gig. Even if they really striped back they'd struggle to keep it as pretty at 2 gig. Presume it's just them using XBLA as a general term for arcade/GoD releases.

The happy action theatre one is gold only, so I just bought Iron Brigade and the expansion. That seems like an awesome price for somebody who is only going to play them single player :)

Edit: I don't even have a Kinect, and I was going to buy happy action theatre. I'm a double fine whore...

Yeah the Kinect stuff (and Rhythm Party too) is the gold only deal of the week. Everything else is, I don't know, some kind of other sale for some reason and is open to all.

I guess this is a nice apology for over a month of poor deals.

Orcs Must Die is a great game.

I quite enjoyed the trial of that but reviews suggested that it turned horrible when you had more than one thing to defend in a level, which put me off somewhat. How did you find the difficulty later on?

I am stuck on a mission near the end of the game, but that was well after you began having to defend two points. The important thing is to be strategic; if both points feed enemies through a common chokepoint, defend the chokepoint, not the gateways. You can also see in advance whether or not enemies will go through a given door on the next wave. You can always go back and replay earlier levels in order to get more stars and thus more/better traps.

For me, as someone who is not a huge tower defence fan, it's an easy recommendation.

It does get really hard (I never left a mission until I perfected it), but once it clicks, and you figure out the wave types and how best to manage your gold, you experience a euraka moment. It feels really great when you complete the mission after a few 'practise' runs without a hitch.

I guess the biggest tip would be: use barriers and tar traps as often as you can. Barriers are especially useful in guiding enemies to a common death area (like the missions with two portals) - but if it's too far away, they'll attempt to just break down the barrier. I think there were only two missions where I fudged up barriers and had them break on me, so it isn't trial and error. Tar traps will slow everyone down into an orc blob, which can easily be dispatched with certain traps (like the swinging mace).
