The Netflix Recommendation Thread of Dope Movies

Yeah. If I want to watch something then I'll have to wait for the disc to show up in my mailbox, and then wait for the next disc, etc. With streaming I can just watch whatever, whenever.

Well if that is what you want then be prepared to subscribe to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, cable, Premium Cable, and prepare for a future where each one has a proprietary box under your tv. Nothing Netflix can do about Hollywood studios not allowing them to stream the same movies that they can rent on dvd. What you can do is exactly what the movie studios want, go out and buy every dvd you want from best buy or walmart and you can have them on the same day.

I sympathise with the people who think the library is lacking, and I agree to a certain extent, but it's just so cheap that I find it difficult to get too upset.

$8 is like the price of a new DVD rental here in Australia. I spend that amount of lunch every day.

Sounds expensive. ;_;

Then get the 2 movies at a time subscription from Netflix and you can have everything for one low price. As long as you make sure to always put the dvd you are finished with out in the mail then you should almost always have a dvd at home to watch.

Just watched The Perfect Host. I found it to be pretty decent. I definitely laughed out loud several times. The twist it takes toward the end isn't that great IMO (they should have ended it earlier), but I think it's a good watch.

Been wanting to check that one out. Heard it met an untimely end at the end of S1, they had planned to continue...

I have only read one or two things on the ending(not trying to spoil it, duh), but it was said they knew it was coming, and wrapped things up nicely.

Oh, that's comforting. I'll give it a shot.

Top Gear - Any of their overseas ventures, apart from the most recent holiday special. Season 10, episode 9 I believe. Their 24 hour race at Silverstone, one of my favorites. Also can't remember which season off the top of my head, but the episode with stretched limousines.
Futurama - Anything from those first 4 seasons, but I really love Three Hundred Big Boys. This is actually a pretty good list, though I haven't seen the new episode it lists.
Mythbusters - Their earlier seasons were much better, around 3-6 probably.
Home Movies - Um...all of it?

Are you coming into these shows cold for the first time? If so:

Friday Night Lights/24/Lost/Battlestar Galactica: Impossible
Deadliest Catch: They're all basically the same. Just pick an episode at random and start watching (at least this is my take on it)
The Office: The Surplus, sexual harassment, conflict resolution, gay witch hunt, safety training (must see imo), michael scott paper company, scott's totts, Dwight K. Shrute (acting) manager
Parks and Rec: the stake out, Ron and Tammy I, II and Ron and Tammys (all must sees), Tom's divorce, 94 meetings, the master plan, time capsule, Andy and Aprils fancy party, the bubble, the fight, end of the world, win lose or draw.

Original or US?

Because I will gladly re-subscribe to netflix if they add the UK version.

I'm watching the US version. I believe the UK version is also on there, but only available for UKers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

This isn't available on streaming but I just watched Another Earth and it was pretty great. Its sci-fi, thriller, romantic drama all rolled into one. I think if you enjoyed Moon or Solaris you will enjoy this movie.

CBS Corp.'s broadcast network said "CSI: Miami" won't return to the schedule next season and will become available on digital outlets including Netflix Inc.

"'CSI: Miami' leaves an amazing television legacy - a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS's rise to the top over the past decade," the New York- based network said today in an e-mailed statement.

CBS also airs "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "CSI: New York." "CSI: Miami," starring David Caruso, was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ann Donahue.

The show will continue to be sold as reruns to other networks and will become available through CBS's digital distribution deals, which includes streaming on Netflix.

Awesome. Appreciate it. I've seen most of this stuff, barring FNL and 24. Looking for a refresher/nostalgia trip. I realize the two I haven't seen are overarching narratives, just kind of looking into the tone of the shows. I have a buddy that's into Deadliest Catch, but I never got into it. Thought I was missing something

Thanks to acridmeat too. Though I doubt all of Home Movies is worth watching. I'll have to check out the Top Gear stuff. Any other contributions are appreciated too!

FNL is definitely a drama. It can also be a tad melodramatic at times. BUT it's one of...if not THE top show of mine. It's just do great.

Oh, ok. Damn. True story, the UK version was added a while back...for what seems like a day. It was added, I saw it and added it to my queue. Then, it was switched for the US version. Weird.

Silly heresy to just get a "sense" of a show from watching a few episodes. Can't be done successfully. Watch all of FNL and 24 if you're interested; at least start from the beginning. Only way to ACTUALLY understand the strength of Tami and Eric, best marriage on TV maybe ever, or Jack Bauer's indomitable hero complex.

Are there any good documentaries on ancient Rome on netflix? Or anywhere online for that matter?

Just watched Red State. Holy crap! Great movie...I don't think there's many people in movies I wanted dead more!

Edit: and a couple people from Breaking Bad!

Lunopolis is a great mockumentary about a secret city on the moon. Kind of like found footage mixd with ancient aliens. It's a sci-fi documentary thriller.

Quite good.

This was terrible. I was going along with it until they started to explain the unbelievably convoluted story and all the enjoyment was wiped away.

Are any of the Marvel cartoons worth watching? I'm in that sort of mood after seeing The Avengers.

I've heard a lot of good things about Spectacular Spider-Man, if you can get past the weird artstyle they went for with the series anyways. And as AceBandage said, the Avengers series is pretty great too.

Thor might be coming to streaming, nice if true!! And Drive tomorrow it looks like?!
Thor is definitely coming via Netflix's agreement with EPIX. Which means they will also get Captain America and eventually The Avengers.

Other stuff like Hunger Games should be coming too.

Just watched Brotherhood. Basically everything that could go wrong after a frat prank goes wrong. Had me on the edge of my seat...thought it was a pretty good thriller.

edit: And Netflix is still trying its best to piss off its customers - they're now removing expire dates from their API so you won't be able to use sites like Feedflicks like before. What is wrong with this stupid company?
