And why aren't you complaining about them using custom parts instead of off-the-shelf?

Please. According to you the tablet dooms the Wii U because 3rd parties will ignore it's tablet functionalities if they are unique but if PS4 and/or Xbox 720 have the same input devices Nintendo will be screwed because... why exactly? I've yet to see you propose a scenario in which Nintendo doesn't fall on it's face.

My stance on the danger Nintendo faces is based on the idea if others have a tablet controller it removes the uniqueness that Nintendo has used as the hook for their new console.
Nintendo is gambling this generation on the Tablet controller. If Nextbox launches with a Tablet it destroys Nintendos unique position and red oceans them right away. IN a red ocean the WiiU will not have the appeal needed for mass success. Nintendo could very well do fantastic with the tablket and I really hope they do. All my gaming is done on PC/Nintendo so its in my best interest they do magnificent. That said they are gambling and it could go very successful or Gamecube
I want to release some more stuff and am currently interacting with a few people on things but as you can imagine there was no risk at all verifying dev kit issues when every single studio faced them. More detailed stuff now can be tracked much easier

i was thinking of starting a thread about what it would take to develop a very basic pokemon mmo.
nothing too different from the games we already have today. Same world size, same locations, same features, etc but with the ability to have 100-1000 people or so playing on the same world as you are.
Some missions and areas could allow for joint expeditions. Caves and whatnot could be made easier by joining up in small groups.
How much more expensive is it to develop this type of game? Can developers sell MMOs of these scales the same way normal games are sold? or can the development/maintenance costs only be justified by having suscriptions? (which then turns the games into full on mmos)

Who cares what he press says? They've been down on Nintendo for over a decade now.
As for their viability, Nintendo is currently at a creative and brand name high. They've pumped out a lot of games that have destroyed sales meters over the past generation, and will likely carry this into this new generation.
They'll just shift their focus a bit.
If they can make the console successful in the time they have along on the market, and really help push third party games, then they'll be just fine.

You'd still need a fan to exhaust the heat since the parts wouldn't allow Wii U to get away with 100% passive cooling. But internally we did at one point talk about liquid chamber cooling. But that's probably over the top now that we know more. So "too hot" for passive cooling and "too cool" to probably need something like that.
My hype is dying, but it may be because of school. Someone get me hyped again
Just re-watch any and all of the good Nintendo Conference and you'll be good.
Also, remember that Xbox is irrelevant in Japan.

Ugh! That puts the Wii U exactly halfway between Microsoft's two boxes. 6 units of '-'. Nintendo is releasing this thing 7 years after the 360 debuted.... while Microsoft's new machine comes out 12 months after that yet will be an additional 6 units of advancement over what Nintendo produces. That scenario would embarrassing for Nintendo, to be honest.

It wont be that bad unless Developers decide to make it that way which could happen. The Wii U is modern enough in technology even if not in capabilities to get the support. How that support is recieved by gamers though will determine if Developers continue to bother. So for every WiiU owner who decides to buy X major title on PC or another console they hurt Nintendos long term viability with the console
