Then why do I keep on reading all sorts of nonsense about kinect stealing the casuals?

Anecdotally, people do look at Kinect as the new thing for motion controls because it's in the public's eye. Microsoft spent a hefty amount advertising it. Wii was "yesterday's thing" - software support mostly reflects that. Hardware wise, Kinect is doing great and it has allowed the 360 to cross into "wife-approved" territory, if you get the jist of the reference lol

If kinect appeals to the casuals its one of those odd cases of non gaming related things for sure.

Something about Kinect sales isn't clicking for me personally. UBISOFT's VP of marketing said MS sells 90% of Kinect hardware during the holidays. That is really bad and unhealthy.

The hardware stuffed in the DRC is pretty limited, it's basically just enough to receive the video/audio stream, decode it, and displaying it on the screen/playing it on the speakers (+ microphone, control input, etc.). Edit: it's for the DRC that third-parties possess until now, they haven't yet seen the "new one" featuring some alterations that Nintendo noticed them of.

But i always liked this kind of idea, i remember covering the Cell revelation and hypothetic applications, like integrated Cell in electrical domestic equipment, that could be plugged/linked with the PS3 to increase the overall performances, it was ridiculous but at the same time intriguing. Imagine a non-plausible scenario where your friends would bring 3 additional padlets put on the living room table, and the Wii U would allocate some light tasks to their distantly linked CPU, freeing up some system resources and activating a sort of super-mode :p

Wii U + 10 Tablet pads = PS4 / 720 ? ;).

Pikmin 2 Wii is coming (June 10th?). Are they trying to create Pikmin 3 Wii U buzz or cashing in on Pikmin 3 buzz?

Also, Pokémon Conquest DS is coming June 18th followed by NSMB2 3DS in August.

There has been some speculation based on what is likely a retailers errant posting that Luigi's Mansion 2 will be on Wii U. http://www.play.com/Games/Wii/4-/31372443/Luigi-Mansion-2/Product.html

Amazon still list Wii U 3rd party games at $49.99. Has Nintendo said anything about prices? Does anyone expect 60 dollar games for Wii U?

Edit:
PIKMIN 2 MAKES ITS U.S. WII DEBUT, JOINS MARIO POWER TENNIS IN NINTENDO SELECTS

May 14, 2012

Nintendo is adding two great games to the Nintendo Selects value collection for the Wii console on June 10 with Mario Power Tennis and Pikmin 2, a Nintendo GameCube classic making its U.S. debut on Wii. Nintendo Selects games are available at a suggested retail price of $19.99.

Separately, two of the best-selling Wii games of all time will be getting new prices: Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Donkey Kong Country Returns each will be available at a suggested retail price of $29.99. The value pricing provides shoppers with a great way to expand their game collections with some of the hottest Wii games around.

Pikmin 2 has updated controls optimized for the Wii console as players help brave Captain Olimar and his assistant, Louie, salvage treasures and return them to their home planet. In addition to the original red, blue and yellow Pikmin from the first game, players can also take command of purple and white Pikmin, creating a wealth of new strategic options. Additionally, Pikmin 2 features a frantic, two-player split-screen multiplayer battle mode, for which additional accessories are required and are sold separately.

Mario Power Tennis lets players power up their tennis game by swinging the Wii Remote to smack powerful forehands and backhands. Players can take on the role of their favorite Mushroom Kingdom characters and play on imaginative courts not possible in the real world, including a court littered with Mario-style power-ups. As players win tournaments, clear minigames or challenge Gimmick Courts, they unlock new characters, courts and challenges. Up to four players can compete in wild multiplayer action.

The fan-favorite Super Smash Bros. Brawl features dozens of characters from numerous Nintendo games and franchises in a battle royale. Up to four players can battle in the same room or over a broadband Internet connection. To date the game has sold nearly 5.5 million in the United States alone.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a new take on the classic platforming, barrel-blasting and banana-hoarding franchise. The game features the first simultaneous cooperative game-play mode for the series, allowing both novice and skilled players to play the game together. Players run, jump, climb and defeat enemies through diverse environments until they retrieve Donkey Kong's stolen banana hoard. The game has sold more than 2.5 million in the United States.

Other games in the Nintendo Selects collection include Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers Charged, Punch-Out!!, Super Paper Mario, Wii Sports, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Mario Super Sluggers.

$60 is what I expect to pay for Wii U games. Nintendo hasn't said anything about software pricing yet.

Did anything else come up about the rumored Nintendo/Google partnership for something OS-related?

We're soon to the half-way point of this thread.

1 week and 2 days after its opening.

We. Are. Insane.

2ZAY

that gif is so amazing. hyped me up so much last year... then e3 2011 happened. really hoping nintendo is able to pull it off this year.

...We do?

i think that was sarcasm?

you can never really tell on a forum...

edit: also, E3 is a scant few weeks away. that's presumably why we're seeing a flurry of new posts.

edit2: the "next generation" consoles (PS3, XBox2) are awfully long in the tooth. methinks people are clamoring for something, ANYTHING new

I just beat the Luigi's purple coin level in Super Mario Galaxy. 10 stars left to go :D
That was such a brilliant, evil star to obtain.

As a send-off to my Wii, I'm replaying the Skyward Sword Hero Mode in the Autumn. But first, in the Summer, it'l be the Galaxy games for all stars (after E3 hype dies-down); the thought of having to win that star again is already haunting me..

That's a great one. On the other hand, Hightail Falls Speedrun in Galaxy 2 is the bane of my existence.

I feel horrible, but I can't beat Galaxy 2, and not because of stuff you'd expect like Grandmaster Galaxy or what have you. My demon in that game is Rolling Rainbow Galaxy. Stupid fucking purple coins on a ball rolling level with a 10 coin leeway at max... That's just sadistic. :lol

On my second run of the game, I was dreading that star (and a few daredevil ones) and I ended up doing all of them without dying once, I was so proud :P My most hated star was the dreadnought purple star, because I didn't realize the moving platform came back if you missed while on a fixed platform (I just though you had to be super fast), so I made it much harder than it actually was...

I can't wait too see what EAD Tokyo is doing for the Wii U, Galaxy is probably my most played console game this gen >.>

Oh god I hated that star so fucking much :/

To be honest, I was only expecting current gen ports to get better AA and AF, exclusives to look significantly better than than gen's best, and next-gen ports to look like low-medium setting at 720p or 540p compared to the other next consoles. Sounds like I'm getting what I expected.

Wuu = 3x360

PS4 = 3xWuu

XB8 = 1.1-1.25xPS4
Okay, now give me the B.O.M.s of each of those?

Ok, now that I'm back on my computer it's catch up time! :D

Yup, those are my numbers and I'm sticking with them! haha. Really, my point rides on the assumption that it's a 32nm chip (IBM's eDRAM on board supports this). If AMD were achieving those numbers in their embedded line last year for casino machines, what are they possible of doing on Wii U (where much more graphics power is obviously utilized)? 640 spus at the same Mhz on the lower process seems plausible.

Then, there is the x-factor of the fixed function extension units (at least for lighting if not also other areas). I don't know to what extent they would take up die space, etc, so I can't say how much they'd affect the design of the chip. On the other hand, reducing the ROP performance from the presumed dev kits (if they were pretty much stock RV770LEs) might cause issues, unless Nintendo locked it out somehow. Not that more than 8 ROPs may even be necessary. Real performance numbers (vs theoretical) are hard to come by, but it doesn't seem to be a bottleneck in the current generation.

Your theory at 480 spus could work, but I am still holding out atm because of that rumor about overheating dev kits. If that is true, then the dev kit gpus were originally clocked higher and Nintendo's target performance would be more than 576 GFLOPS. I then assume that the "bump in performance" reported around January was when the first round of prototype Wii U GPUs went out, including the die shrink, bump in speed, and presumably this "hardwired" lighting unit.

I wouldn't go too far in clocking the chip over 600 Mhz, though. I expect clocks to be similar to 360 and Nintendo prefers to balance their systems carefully to avoid bottlenecks. There are also yields, I suppose, to take into account. My bet is on the chips being done at GF since there was just that story about their deal w/ IBM on the 32nm tech and they opened the new plant. They'll have the manpower. And the IBM eDRAM in question is specific to that technology it seems.

I would definitely welcome it that's for sure. Every little extra helps.

You sure? I'm losing it over here. I really am.

It's just a case of withdrawals. And you keep trying to get your fix, but it's not doing as well. You just need some fresh hype to get your buzz going.
