Diablo III |OT2| Queues Rise. Servers Fall.

Now, I'm no networking expert, but I can't help but imagine that a company like Blizzard, with their multiple Scrooge McDuck like Money bins, can't afford a fuck ton of servers, and logistics to understand how to make massive launches like this actually work.

$$$$$$$$$$

They don't care.

Do they really have only ONE game server? For a game where literally millions of people are trying to play, there has to be more than that. I mean, they have hundreds of WoW servers and these servers only have a few thousands online at the same time.

I'm a little pissed. I was in (Act 1) fighting
The Butcher
and during the epic fight I had to revive my teammate 3 times :(.. Anyways, we beat the boss and right before I can grab my loots I get "game terminated".

I was right there also. Except I picked up loot and there better not be a roll back

While upsetting, I did have an incredible time; 2 friends of mine from work and I just cleared the very first boss, this game is so much fun when you play with friends.

The battle.net website is slugggggggish. They're getting hammered from all ends right now.

I'm going to take this as my queue to eat/drink something.

Arksy is coming to Blizzard's defence! :O (Don't worry it won't happen again, I promise!)

In all honestly, could this have gone any other way with the Servers? Is there even enough processing power in the world to deal with this kind of traffic? We're probably talking millions of players all logging in at once and not being cordoned off into individual servers like traditional MMO games.

Despite all the server issues, and randomly not being able to chat to people, and Blizzard randomly deleting my RealID friend list, I really enjoyed those three hours and forgot to eat dinner. Playing with a friend made it way better. We'll just need to set up a voice chat for next time.

OMG I CAN'T PLAY

Blizzard sucks.

What a failure of a launch. How can they not get it right?

Millions of players all around the world trying to log in and play an extremely complex game with tons of multiplayer features. Surely nothing could possibly go wrong!

Hell I'm suffering along with them and yet I'm laughing my ass off at how salty everyone is right now
KuGsj.gif

I gotta admit I am too. I just got two yellow drops that would sell well, if theres a rollback Im gonna losem and be sad, and yet I still cant help but lol @ the single player saltiness of those who didnt see this coming a mile away.

It's the fact that this persistent online gameplay is even considered an acceptable solution that is infuriating beyond belief.

I have a question, hopefully someone can help me answer:

I'm playing as Wizard and I'm not sure if I understand weapons choices. Do weapons that increase base damage cause left-click attacks to do more damage? Or does it affect all attacks? Also, does it matter whether or not the weapon is a wand or not? I see the Wizard can equip a variety of weapon types, which I did not expect.

New to Diablo. Thanks, guys. Now that the server crashed, I figured it'd be the perfect time to ask. :)

All attacks. And make sure to turn on elective mode...instead of "left-click attacks," you can map any skill to any button.

Also, doesn't matter if it's a wand, but there are certain items (wands, focuses etc.) which will have wizard specific stats later on (i.e. will say "Wizard only: Mana Regeneration +5 billion" etc.)

so I was playing and leveling while the servers were down. I didn't know, but I wasn't able to chat with my group and kept getting error messages. So I left the game and went to search for a new game, I noticed it only had 2 quests done in act 2 but I had just completed act 2 before I left, so I logged out thinking it would refresh the list, now I can't log back in. I'm hoping I didn't lose all that progress.

The reason I don't like Torchlight is because it's moddable and hackable, and if you can just hack your way to amazing items, why even play?
WTF? Do you have some kind of OCD thing where you have to hack and cheat just because you can? o.O

Diablo III WILL be hacked. It WILL be pirated. There WILL be spambots and all that other irritating crap. I'll still be $60 poorer for being stupid enough to buy this shite, but at least I'll have the pleasure of laughing at all the idiots who keep regurgitating the bullshit from Blizzard's mouthpieces when it becomes clear as the nose on my face that this whole thing has been about corporate gain.

Multiplayer game my ass.

So who the fuck is the
Butcher
?

Everyone was freaking out that
OMG THE BUTCHER IS COMING BACK

I've never played a diablo game to completion, there was no leadup to who the boss was, only mentioned him right as he showed up.

The bossfight in 4 player fucking OWNED but seriously, who gives a shit? No idea who this person is.

any class impressions?

Demon Hunter seems fun. I went the female variant. She's cool to play. Ranged class that sort of fits the kind of shadow hunter has a cloak with a small cross bow and some knives and such.

She starts off with a small cross bow that's 1 handed and you can put something in for an offhand. I switched to a better 2 handed bow though that dropped. She's ranged heavy, but I get a different vibe from her verses say a hunter in WoW. It might just be my mind though and the setting change and such. I'm only a low level Act 1 Demon Hunter though.

You asked who cares.

Blizzard cares. And I care. The reason I don't like Torchlight is because it's moddable and hackable, and if you can just hack your way to amazing items, why even play? These games are all about the loot for me. The only reason I'm even remotely into Diablo is because if I got an amazing item, I earned it. Whether it be through money or time.

That makes no sense. You can still play legit and get the same feeling in Torchlight. It's not even multiplayer so some random person could screw you up. I don't see how paying money is "earning it" either but this is sort of off topic already.

It happened with D2 and completely destroyed the online play, trade economy, and PVP. So yes, believe it. Hacks, bots, map hacks, dupes, you name it.

So this widespread hacking and game dismantling has happened to every Blizzard game aside from D3 and WoW, as well? Even the Starcrafts?

Weapons affect all attacks so chose the weapon with the highest dps > other stats this early

When is the last time Blizzard fucked up this bad when it came to a game or expansion launch? Man, this is terrible.

Easily WoW. WoW put this to shame at its launch, its not even close, it was bad. BC was pretty bad too.

It hasnt happened enough to ruin the economy at all in WoW. With warden and the like, they havent been able to stop all hacks, but its never been able to get so out of hand that it damaged the game. Thats the reason I think they will do just as well with D3

probably WoW, but this ain't a MMO, dammit Blizz!

WoW wasn't even this bad on the first day and it was an MMO. They had like what 3 million preorders for this game? They knew a whole lot of people were gonna be hammering these servers and it seems like they did jack shit to prepare.

I'm nearing the end of ACT 2. If I have to do it again, I may /wrists

All of your abilities are based off of weapon damage. If you check the option to use "advanced tooltips" then you will see. Abilities will say something like "does 150% weapon damage", etc.

Also, your weapon type doesn't matter, you typically just want something with the highest dps (damage per second).

I am playing by myself for now personally.. I think it's pretty damn unacceptable and I think anyone who doesn't is insane.
