So I have a level 9 Wizard. I'm not real sure on what I should have in my main hand? Are wands always better than anything else, even without stats? Is this just a weird thing in the beginning because no wands really have stats added to them?

Just use whatever gives the most damage

glad i didn't call in sick today. servers went back online right after i got home, and managed to stay up long enough for me to play act 1 at a nice comfortable pace with my gf, and my friend.

playing as a witch doctor. lots o fun.

Doesn't Call of Duty handle the same kind of traffic? What's the real difference - it's data in and data out. Friends list. Chat. That's about it.

Diablo 3 isn't doing some arcane new thing that nobody has ever attempted before.

Xbox live craps out the day CoD launches too people seem to forget that.

I will say this...

That WASD script is FUCKING awesome. It runs like a god damn dream.

Mouse doesn't flicker around AT ALL.

It's so amazing <3

Last boss of Act I was really awesome. Hyped for Act II now, as people say the difficulty gets ramped up alot more.

Wait who is last boss of Act I lol

The Sunwell patch was easily on par with this. In fact, I'd say people got more playtime today in D3 then people did when 2.4 came out.

Wasn't the case on my server. I'm sorry that it was on yours.

It was years ago at this point, but I remember for a fact that I was at least actually playing the damn game on launch day. You gotta also realize the fact that that was an MMO in 2004 this is 2012 and a co-op game. I've been able to play Diablo 3 for 2 hours today, that's it. I'll take lag/stuck in loot position over this shit.

This.

Naaaaaaaah Im gonna go ahead and say you are full of shit if you think this rivals WoW's launch. I was there at midnight. A member of a 71 man guild that came from Midgard Bors to WoW. And there WAS no server that you could go to that would let you escape the madness. We were online and trying to get up and going before they even added the additional servers. We TRIED moving to the other open ones, and it didnt matter, ALL of them were fried.

Cmon son. D3's launch is bad enough, you don't need hyperbole to try and make a point that this isnt going well. Its bad, but its not WoW launch bad.

I have played a quality 13 or so hours today. Quality, not lagged to shit, but good game time. This has nothing on WoW's launch. You were in game, but it was borked to shit. No comparison.

Haha, I was just about to post my purchase history too, lol.

do you guys think it'll be up in the next 2 hours???

i was planning to stay up till 2 am solely for diablo, but since it's down I might as well go to be like any other work night.... :/

I'm only level 10, but so far the game's been really really easy for my wizard. Too easy to kite people.

SK didn't even get me below 80% at any point during the boss fight.

Can somebody confirm that the game gets harder than this?

Reading the last few posts about wizards and watching my friend get destroyed in act 4 with his wizard, why are they so weak? My monk blazed through the game easy mode.

I think I've got a slightly higher DPS than my friend's Barb who I'm playing with now. 66 DPS at level 15. Wizard isn't weak.. just kinda squishy.

I'd love to stay up for this but meh, just going to sleep and dealing with the longest day of work ever tomorrow :|

Sorry not reading the rest of that. Personally this launch might have been an 'epic fail' for you and that's unfortunate. However to generally say it was one for the launch of the game isn't remotely true. Things could have gone MUCH worse. The launch wasn't/isn't a great success; but it certainly isn't an 'epic failure'.

Really? They could be worse sure, I mean the servers could have been up and day then wiped everyone's progress just now. But really it's pretty fucking bad.

Definitely. Got much harder once I hit Act II.

SK is a joke btw :P

Well unlike you, I actually had the courtesy of reading the rest of your message before replying to it. In any case, we seem to differ on the definition of 'epic fail' and let'S leave it at that.

Next time Blizzard should really stagger their release like they do with their betas. They designed the game to be online and knew how many units they could sell - they kindof asked for this.

Don't know if that would solve the problem, really... If they release it to a particular region, launch day will be the biggest day ever for that region's dedicated servers.

Keep in mind, not even Google is able to launch a major service and take all comers without restrictions... and Google isn't a company with noted cash flow problems, or an unwillingness to throw cash at a problem.

My god this game is great. I chose the Wizard and it is really awesome so far. Only got to 12 before the servers went down again. Gonna take a break and then go right back in. I can easily see myself playing through all the classes at least once.

oh and for anyone playing with different control schemes, I've been using my tablet to play Act 1. and it's pretty satisfying. much better for hand position atleast.

I'm stuck at the "Checking for Updates" screen, similar to an error I got during the Beta... fuuuudge. After I played a bit under "playable" conditions with 54% loaded, which was awesome, I went out... came back, STILL 54% loaded, tried to restart client, now I can't get the Launcher to work again. GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER BLIZZARD.

Game was awesome though.

Control alt delete -> Task manager -> end process Agent.exe

The launcher/installer should reset itself and update properly. Worked for me earlier.

This would be possibly more harmful to them then the down time right now. Could you imagine people complaining that they didn't get in the first wave of release? This thread would be twice as long.

Like actually DPS, or theoretically from the additional stats added to it? What I mean is, a sword that I never actually melee with, with a higher DPS number than a wand is better? Kind of weird.

Downed SK. Went and turned in the quest. Then I made the fatal mistake of logging out to eat dinner.

Oh well, on to Max Payne 3. I hope I don't have to log in to play the single player, lol.

I kind of feel like a turret playing as a Wizard. Admittedly I'm not very far into the class, lvl 8 or so. Does this change? Kinda tempted to switch to Barbarian to get a little action.

I started Act 2 a short time ago on my DH and Im getting destroyed though. I mean, I cannot survive more than a few seconds with enemies in melee range. Its pretty horrifying how fragile I am. I probably need to stop advancing in acts and just repeat one over and over and build up my gear before moving on.

Wow. Sure this shit sucks, but some people are taking this as personal as if it actually is Blizzard their girlfriend is cheating with... From the 5 hours I've played the game is fantastic, and so I'll give them a couple days to get their act together.

If they don't, well... :)

Well good for you, not all of us have been so lucky though. Error codes are burned into my retinas at this point.

There is absolutely no elegant solution to the problem. If they did server queues, people would complain that they're in a queue for a single player game. If they allow access in waves, people will complain. It's a lose/lose situation.

It's a much easier time if you use a follower - I'd suggest the templar.

edit: He's basically just a meat shield for you to range kill everything. It's cake.

I got killed twice in Act 1, once by a rare pack that bumrushed me and once by the boss.

I died to the first pack in Act 2, lol. Those grenade throwing furries HURT!

I was thinking about doing that a bit. Just to get the nostalgia of MF runs back in.

Gotcha. It's pretty satisfying to pull the nova/force wave combo, but there's really no sense of danger at all when I just run into a giant mob.

Good to know the game gets a lot harder.

All of normal is easy. Once you beat the game at least once, then it starts becoming an actual challenge, rather than a mindless clickfest. Inferno is going to take max level guys playing well together and it's going to be very challenging. Can't wait to see that, and the loot.

I remember when Ulduar came out too. It was terrible server didn't go up till like 9 PM PDT and even when they did all the instance server were fucked. Nobody did anything that day in WoW.

Yes, probably, unless the wand has a crazy Intelligence boost to it. Anyway, if you mouse over the weapon in your inventory, it will show the change in stats compared to your equipped weapon. Improvements are in green, decreases are in red.
