What the hell I just upgraded from the starter edition to the CE and all my characters are gone.

Did this happen to anyone else?

That definitely didnt happen to me. I used my CE from the guest pass, logged in and continued on my level 13 char. Check the region.

Dual-wielding bows! Your co-op partner pulls the strings.

I'm just kidding. I like the bow look a lot more when playing my DH, so I'd go that way. It's a shame the quiver is not rendered onto your character model.

Could anyone tell me which is better:

1 bow with good DPS and a quiver with +7 dex and 10% faster attack or 2 bows with decent DPS?

Undecided if I should just duel wield crossbows or have 1 crossbow + quiver. Does the damage for both bows stack or just the main bow stack on the skills?

When Dual wielding your attacks alternate between the weapons (and their stats), but with a 15% increase to attack speed.

Yeah, this is basically how I feel. I'm glad they didn't regard their own game as some sort of holy bible that can never be deviated from.

I was a little concerned at first, because people kept saying streamlined like it was dumbed down, and Diablo II wasn't exactly some majorly deep game but all they really did was take out the clunk, small timesinks and FAQ diving that prevented you from actually tooling around in the game, the actual play is more interesting and nuanced than most of Diablo II even in normal mode.

I assume it's because of WoW-phobia, and it's one thing not to like WoW or MMO content, I don't play WoW anymore either (don't wanna raid and everything else is too easy) so that's very understandable for anyone. But the stuff WoW did for interface work, infrastructure and blinding polish over the years has been pretty incredible, and one of the reasons why every other MMO in it's wake fails. That's the stuff Blizzard does best, so I don't know why anyone would be bothered by it.

Are you talking about this?

Ambient Occlusion

Found it while googling.

Yep. AO is pretty much always a very nice visual addition but it has a particularly great effect in this game since the darker, fuller shadowing adds a lot to the atmosphere on top of being much better-looking.

The instructions are on NVIDIA's site: http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/ar...ii-with-advanced-ambient-occlusion-shadowing/ What they don't mention is that there's an even better Quality setting if you use NVIDIA Inspector.

I really started out not being impressed by this game. The inability to map abilities to function keys to quickly change them out for your mouse buttons, the lack of skill trees (really messed up that WoW has a more Diablo-like skill progression than Diablo 3...), etc. But I'll be damned if the game didn't eventually suck me in. I do feel however that: Skyrim is to Morrowind as Diablo 3 is to Diablo 2.

Loss of attributes, loss of customizability, etc. Some things I miss from Diablo 2. But this game is definitely fun.

Lots of lag on a single player game with a good computer though sucks. It won't matter if I have the top of the line RAM, CPU, and Video Card, it will still stutter depending on server load. And this is on my Japanese 80mb up and 80mb down connection on the Asia server...still laggy as shit.

Witch Doctor is an interesting class. I seem to have the most success tossing out a zerg swarm of spiders on a snare patch at level 11. At least in high enemy count environments. I like that most of the abilities base their damage off your equipped weapon. That finally evens the playing field for magic users. When magical damage isn't affected by your gear, it makes it harder to balance when new items drop, but basing magical damage on your equipped weapon allows a wizard to still be viable based on drops received. (Especially MMO's. New expansion with overpowered weapons and armor comes out and magic users usually get fucked because their improvements don't match up to the latest gear.)

My physical copy finally arrived and I installed it on the Mac Mini I have here at work. Works great, though I have to use wifi via my mobile phone to connect as battle.net ports are blocked on work's network. The latency number seemed to jump around quite a lot, but I didn't notice any problems in playing it (I guess that might be because I'm in the EU region).

So... uh yah if you get to act II and find a cellar with a guy named Fuad talking about blood and how hungry he is be ready for a really hard fight. He has insane HP regen.

Those people posting character select screens, could you blank the act description, or just link the images? :(

Got a bit of an OCD question:

Can you change the order of your listed characters int he character select screen?

I find it a little annoying that they are hard locked in the order you created them in with your first main character at the bottom.

It would be nice if they sorted them by last played character at the top or the most played character at the top.
I don't think so at the moment, but they added the ability to sort it in WoW so maybe at some point.

You guys think the game is worth the $60 if I never plan to use the multiplayer?
If you're just going to play through once on Normal then it's debatable, but if you're going to go through all difficulties and/or try multiple characters there should be more than enough to justify it.

Boo nobody is buying my low level bargains on the auction house. :( 10/10 slots used :(
I have some lowbie rares I'm tempted to throw up there to see what's going on.

Also, does anyone know what the stars are for in the crafting list? Best items?

Why do these games always come out when I have to revise for exams.

Just finished Act I this morning, but I MUST REVISE.

Yeah Inspector has a High Quality AO setting that the normal CP doesn't have. I haven't actually tried it since I imagine the frame hit would probably be a bit too much for my 460. Better cards should give it a shot.

Quality AO still looks super nice.

I can't seem to see a use for Soul Harvest since usually am not very close to the action. Same reason why that Zombie Dog passive doesn't do squat since it has a range of 12 yards.

I imagine it could get dicier to use later on when mobs start hitting really hard, but so far I've found Soul Harvest to be dominant (I'm only at level 10). You can get seriously massive buffs to your intelligence which makes you unleash loads of damage. I like using the Grasp snare to slow enemies down, sort of get into the thick of them and use Soul Harvest, then back out and just own them with the darts as the Zombie Dogs further distract them.

For the passive I went with the one that boosts pet and character defense by 20%, though it looks like you can freely switch skills up there as well.

loss of customizability

I'm not seeing it. Potential builds seem more varied to me, it's just that you're finally free to experiment without starting a new character. And I haven't heard a single good argument for keeping D2's manual stat management.

I'm not sure if anyone else was experiencing it, but if you get screen flickering you should try enabling VSync in the options. I'm rocking a 460gtx and I kept having flashes of my desktop appear for 1/10 of a second. I turned on VSync and haven't had it happen again.

Anybody else's music always way too soft at default settings?

And am absolutely gutted that achievements didn't work yesterday, they do seem now :/

So as a game this is much better than Diablo 2 but im sort of missing the community aspects in this Diablo. I used to love hanging out in user created trade and free stuff games and bartering for items, met a lot of people that way, that stuff kept me playing d2 for years. Dont know how long im gonna play this after I beat it. Great game though.

Well finally picked a solo character, witch doctor. When can I identify stuff?

I'm pretty sure any character is capable of identifying rares if that is what you mean. There are no more scroll of identification. Simply right click on the item if you are high enough to use it.

There are channels like General, Hardcore, Looking for group and Trade you can join (even in non-public games) and chat with others in your current server.

I have it on my netbook also! I get 30 FPS though.

*sigh*

Is it just me or do even the cinematics stutter? >_<
The black soulstone cinematic that was revealed before the game was released look and ran better as a bloody youtube clip than this.

So I'm having this bitching cold and annoying headache, but I really wanna play when I get home from work.
Any recommendations for pick-me-ups or stuff that will give me enough energy to enjoy the game for some hours?

If I upgrade an artisan as I'm going through normal, does their "level" stay with them as I go on to nightmare?

I don't want to dump money into upgrading him if it's just going to reset when I start a new difficulty.

OK, so is anyone else experiencing mild hitching while moving around? It's pretty subtle, I suppose, but it lacks the fluidity I would hope to find in a game like this. It manifests itself as small skips almost akin to HDD access (which shouldn't be the case as it's running on an SSD with 8gb of ram). i7-930 + GTX580 in there as well. Wouldn't expect any performance issues.

I also would LOVE gamepad support to show up at some point as I can't really enjoy the game in my theater setup as is. :\

Just to add to AppleSmack that when you identify stuff it won't happen instantly. You'll have a progress bar above your character (just like when using the town portal).

First time I tried to right click on a yellow item in the beta I thought nothing happened and just clicked on something else that canceled the idenfitication.

This game...

This fucking game...

I'm on an SSD also, but, are you speaking mostly of the microstutter?

It feels more like that to me.

Good morning D3GAF, I have a question.
If I upgrade the blacksmith in a friend's game am I upgrading his blacksmith or mine? In other words, are the NPCs "shared"? If so, fuck, I just spent all my gold upgrading his BS.
