Wow, I have a feeling Activison is going to come out not in a positive light during this trail, and some people might lose their jobs, or worse.

and the name is just.. bad. "Project Icebreaker" Really?

The fact that attempted to spy on them to get dirt is just.. Bad.

Mission Impossible-type spying attempts were thought of. Fake Fumigations!

To try and accomplish this task, Fenady reached outside parties. He reportedly contacted Microsoft to help crack West and Zampella’s passwords, but Microsoft refused to comply without a court order.

So evil, that Microsoft wouldn't even touch it without a court order.

What kind of moron thinks MS would crack passwords for them on request.

"Do you know who I work for? Bobby Ko-tick. He was in Moneyball, you know."

I don't mean to tell Patrick how to do his job, but why would he not be attending this trial? This seems like exactly the type of thing he wants to cover, and it's been made pretty clear that he has some sort of relationship with the Plaintiffs. I think I even specifically remember him talking about how he desperately wanted this thing to go to trial so he could attend.

icebreaker seems like activision just wanted to know more about W&Z so that they could become friends. "I see they like Waterboy! That will break the ice! This project was a great idea."

That's probably what happened.

Wasn't there a Bobby Kotick quote about controlling developers with fear or something along those lines? The Activision execs seem slimier than most or they're at least worse at hiding it.

I'd be going if I wasn't confident there was another way to cover it without attending in-person.

Just curious, Patrick, do you guys have anyone at the CBS offices you can ask for clarification or explanation on legal documents? I know you're probably the best on the GB staff at interpreting those things, but I didn't know how well versed you were in the area.

I'm probably the worst person alive at making sense of those things, haha.

So anyone know if Jeff saw the Last of Us while on his pre e3 adventure?
Kind of want to know what he would think of it since he never really liked Uncharted.

Kind of weird there is nothing on the site about it since its probably the biggest game news right now that isnt a lawsuit or studio crumbling.

Bunch of stuff on the site about Halo 4 though. LOL TEH BIAS

Uncharted 2 was one of Jeff's, like, five favorite games of 2009, and he was the one who ended up breaking the stalemate to give U2 the GOTY over Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Hey Patrick, I love you dude, you are a great addition to the team and today was another example of what amazing stuff you can bring to the site....however..please chill out a bit during podcasts and quicklooks! You keep cutting and talking over other people and it tends to get a bit annoying.

Just a friendly reminder

Well he never finished U2 and was on the Arkham side for most of that podcast... and he didn't really care for U1 or U3.

Heck He actually tried to get Uncharted 3 removed from The Northies last year.

Not even sure he ever even played Uncharted 3... he always shuts up when it was mentioned on the bombcast.

Not saying he hates the series or anything but he just doesn't like it as much as other members of the crew and I be would interested in knowing what someone thinks of this new more aggressive style of game from ND from someone who doesnt think they are gods gift to PlayStation.

And people wonder why they don't post here more often.

...What? You'd prefer I bitch and call him names like a ton of people keep doing here and on the GB forums/comments?

I gave him a fair critic/advice. I was polite... He can take it or leave it. In the end I'm sure he's smart enough to see the difference.

Less than 5 posts and the topic is derailed again.

I'm interested in what that other method is though Patrick? Since you've been breaking this stuff, what other way would there be? Or would that be interviews with people there? If you can't say I understand.

lol

that was probably the most polite criticism of Tricky I've ever seen.

Are you at least going to check if those court documents are lodged and available in the courthouse? Not that I think someone would fake something that long, but you never know.

ONE YEAR LATER:

What's even better is their latest newspost:

We need to think for a second about the extent to which this supposedly carefree fucking dialectic enables these precise abuses. No, actually; it is not okay that the definitive Game Developer can’t make their shit work. Is it as bad as the Foreclosure Crisis? I don’t know, probably not; but nobody is talking about that. There isn’t a list of things that we have to worry about in order. We can decide on a case by case basis whether or not something is bullshit, and then we can feel some way about it, and we don’t need to wait for a transmission from central command to know if we’ve paid in enough psychic penance to enjoy something.

Dunno what caused the turnaround for Penny Arcade, but I like it.

All that said and all this kerfuffle, Diablo 3 as an actual game is fantastic and I'm really enjoying playing it and watching the GB crew play it, when it's working.

I hope we get more Diablo 3 content, and they shoudnt feel so apologetic about looking at stats and exploring dungeons, I mean that is a part of the game, and I happen to enjoy it

-_-

Diablo is by far the most boring game ever made, and GB is at it's worse when it's trying to be as current as possible, so no they should stop with the fucking D3 videos.

The turnaround was caused by their inability to see beyond their noses. It's the typical attitude of: "it's not a problem until it happens to me".

Yep, the people they take the piss out of in the first comic are far more forward thinking then them, sad really.

I'm catching up on some videos and finished Time Trotters. Man, old Gamespot was awesome. Hotspot, On the Spot, and Button Mashers were terrific. I miss Rich Gallup more than any other video game website personality. He is genuinely likable, interesting, and entertaining in the way Vinny is. Seemingly normal, cool guys.

Agreed. I've been listening to old HotSpot episodes and he's very enthusiastic and entertaining person to listen to and a fantastic host to boot.

With the way things are going with his current employer, he might be out of a job soon.

.

I'm going to say you're in a significant minority here.

Not to mention I don't think it's just "Giant Bomb trying to be current" more so as it is Brad is legitimately excited about the game. Dude loves it, and wants to cover it. It's nice to see them enjoying video games once in a while when most of the time it seems like it's a slog through shit.

I haven't watched any of the diablo 3 stuff, but isn't the appeal of diablo essentially just LOOT N STUFF? hardly seems like the sort of thing that would be enjoyable to watch instead of playing. Might as well do a world of warcraft video series or summat

"Sir, did you or did you not yell out 'COOOOOBRAAAAAAAA!!!' after deciding on the 'Project Icebreaker' name?"

We are talking about the same people who did a shooter TNT last week.

Someone posted a screenshot of that MW2 E3 demo where they are climbing on the ice, and sure enough the mission was called Icebreaker. I wonder if that was Kotick's riposte to the Fear, Pessimism, and Skepticism thing IW pulled at GDC.

I stopped caring about Penny Arcade when they attacked reviewers who dared to give the original Assassin's Creed 7/10 by claiming they rushed thru the game or didn't finish it because it was too long and they were too busy in the Fall review season.

Of course two years later the sequel came out and got great scores across the board even though it's just as long if not longer than the original, so their argument was bullshit. They were just trying to dress up the usual "Why so low?" nonsense for a game they had done a comic for.

What's funny is that their argument in favor of AC was basically that the game 'was not for critics'.
